This has been an ongoing issue from the beginning. This new DAS plan will discriminate against some people with Legitimate disabilities who benefit from the DAS pass and is also a violation of the ADA. I see lawsuits coming against Disney. I also see this as a way for Disney and Bob Iger to force park guests to pay for Gennie+ to bring in money to help recover some money from ALL their movie losses. My Granddaughter hac cereabal palsy and is in a wheelchair and cannot stay out in direct sunlight for long periods of time due to her disability. She has been getting a disability pass since 2010 and it has gotten harder for us to get her one every year. We try not to use it on every attraction, there are certain attractions where a separate entrance is required for people in wheelchairs and EVC's like Small World, Big Thunder Mountain, etc. I have seen the Disability pass system abused in the past, But its not right to punish guests with Legitimate Disabilities who need it. The Bottom Line its all about money, not just abusing the system.

When I was in the parks when my mother was in a wheelchair off and on last year, I was impressed with the way the queues accommodated the wheelchair without needing any particular DAS. We just waited in the queue until a point where the CM ushered us to another area that accommodated the chair itself. Sometimes our wait was a little shorter, sometimes it was a little longer (gleaned from observing the people who had been in front of and behind us.) I'd say it evened out for us. For a person who can't walk at all, I don't know what the accommodation would be. I think having the physical and neurological ability to wait on the queue should be considered a privilege, and not something I would want to cheat about. I would always want to offer DAS to those guests who need it to make their experiences better.

People don't really like to hear this, and that's not to say that everywhere in this country shouldn't improve (it should), but Disney is actually really QUITE accessible compared to standard day to day life. It's nice to know your experience seems to bolster my thoughts. I mean, I've been to literal doctor's offices that didn't have the push to open door button, so when I was using crutches I was pretty much just screwed until someone noticed I needed help lol Some rides do require some level of ambulation, but not all. I don't know the list off the top of my head, but I know it's online. I don't know this as a fact, but I suspect if you cannot walk at all then you probably just can't go on attractions that require some level of ambulation. And while I'm sure that's not satisfactory to many and definitely not ideal, there are (in this country, per its laws/interpretation of laws) legitimate circumstances where accommodations would be deemed unreasonable. And therefore the person just misses out. Again, I'm not defending that. But, in the society we live in that is reality, and in that reality I think Disney does a realllly good job.

I think this new policy is a huge step in the right direction and you did a good job or providing an objective, reasonable analysis. Love your channel!

Ha! I Checked to see if you made an updated DAS video about 3 minutes before this posted, then saw it in my feed immediately afterward. Wildly impractical, but I wish there was a way to have a “boring” alternate waiting location for people utilizing DAS (like private waiting rooms with air conditioning, sound dampening, and easy bathroom access) instead of being free to enjoy other attractions while waiting. That way anyone who genuinely had a hard time with lines would have a better option without making it so attractive to people who didn’t need it. Obviously this wouldn’t actually work for a myriad of reasons, but dang, it would be nice.

This also wouldn’t be fair to those of us who also want A/C and easy access to restrooms who don’t have DAS. Nor would it be fair to DAS users with developmental disabilities who may need constant/frequent engagement with objects of interest and/or activity. I understand the line of thinking, though. I think this solution that Disney is implementing is a big step in the right direction

@@idaUnchained no solution would be perfect, and it’s a moot point anyway since there clearly wouldn’t be anywhere to put a small hotel worth of waiting rooms next to every ride. My only point was that if the vast majority of people who couldn’t wait in normal lines could be accommodated with something that wasn’t seen as a game-changing huge advantage to everyone else, I think a lot of these problems would solve themselves.

Ha, cheers, thanks for your patience. I'd pretty much always rather not be first and make sure I can make something well informed, and with my job/life demands it means I'm often "late", but ya know I'm okay with that haha. Glad the timing worked out for you! So not for the DAS equivalent, but for the parent swap equivalent, I think Universal kind of has what you're describing at a bunch of attractions (I've never done this myself, but have heard from friends). It's so tricky though because what works for some people for DAS won't work for others. But I totally get where you're going with that! Thinking outside the box for accommodations is so tough haha

Hi I live in the uk 🇬🇧 I have primary progressive multiple Sclerosis which means I have to use a wheelchair and because of my ms I have a very weak bladder so I may need to go to the toilet at short notice, and because of my ms I have big challenge with my cognitive memory issues meaning I cannot remember things short term! Will DASpass still work for me?

Hi there! Unfortunately I can't know if DAS will still work for you given that I'm not affiliated with the company. The best you can do is contact them directly. I do hope it works for you!!!

Can DAS be used for all the rides?
@PixieDustPhD
@PixieDustPhD 3 месяца назад
Great question! It can definitely be used for any ride with a lightning lane, so most rides. For rides without that you won't see any ability to get DAS for those rides via the app. If you talk to the Cast Member it might be that they have other accommodations they can provide, but I think that would change ride to ride (and I don't have any personal experience with this, so can't provide any further details). Hope that helps!
