The mother singing about her son has always haunted and mesmerized me. You can really hear the pain in her voice.....that's why she always stood out to me.
Idk if this is true but if you hear her singing Patrick specs real name is Patrick something so some people think she’s looking for him hhhh idk ok thanks
standleymelissa but damn... imagine what could've happened. Patrick could've been a Newsies and her mother knew it. But one day he didn't return home, for reason of New York, and now she hopes he's still among the Newsies. That's why she looks at them and pray God saves/protects him. Gotta love this Movie
Just watched the Broadway show this weekend for its US tour and it was AWESOME...but I still prefer the movie...I grew up with it in the 90's. But I certainly appreciate both!!
+Savannah Howat She is a mom looking for her son who ran away/became a newsie to find work. It shows that some of these boys have families who miss them.
"They're putting up the headline. You call that a headline?! I get better stories from the copper on the beat" Hey, Pulitzer? Think one of your financial problems may be that your newsies apparently know to talk to the police for leads but your reporters don't?!
I'm working at a theater summer camp for kids, each age group does a different musical each week and the youngest group (6-8) is doing Newsies this week. It sure is cute; I think this song is their favorite. :D
Oh my my ! WHAT A SONG ! Gimme goosebumps and love for life. Menken is a genius from heaven... That, and even sister act and leap of faith are even better than Hercules, Be our Guest, Under the Sea and so on... Why is that NEWSIES so unknown ??? ! PS : Same for SANTA FE, best " want song " in a musical ever.
Fun fact for friends talking about the mother: she’s looking for Spot. His full name is Sean Patrick Conlon. It was originally going to be a plot point in the film but ended up on the cutting room floor. (Source: a person whose father worked on this film)
I heard this song in 8th grade in band and I graduated 2015 so it had to be around 2010 or 2011 when I seen this movie and I forgot about it until today when I thought about listening to the songs
I liked the movie musical Newsies. The musical numbers were good and so was the storyline. Unfortunately, a lot of newspapers are not in business because of new technology and one can read articles from their computer or other devices.
Ok so we finished this movie in Chorus today but I don't really get the lady searching for her son. I thought that was leading to somethings later in the movie but nothing ever happened. I guess it was just trying to show ordinary lives in New York.
my older brother and i still think of christian bale as jack kelly even with his role as batman. we know which movie was a critical part of our childhood..
THIS IS FANTASTIC!!! Me and some of my friends in my theatre class are doing this scene for a play. The funny thing is, 10 out of the 12 of us are girls. Hehehehe. Doing this is going to be so much fun!
Ah! I wish I could like this a million times! I looping the newsies :p I know, I am a little late o3o but I now LOVE it and it is my new fav. movie!!! By the way, mush can be yours, but racetrack is all mine :p ...I need to get myself a time machine :D
ohgodohgod every time i watch this part of the movie i completely keel over crutchy is just TOO funny!! he's all like... "you smell foul" and the best part "eeeeeeeeeeehhh move your elbow!"
boys and men back then were such gentlemen they took their hats off when they had to,but most boys and guys these days aren't like this anymore but the one's who are must be pretty special because they still remember manners.
is no one gonna talk about the fact that the part where jack starts with “it takes a smile as sweet as butter” wasn’t in the movie, like wth that’s like my favorite part and it wasn’t even in the movie😂😂
I know! This video is the only place I've ever found it. I saw this clip before I watched the movie for the first time, and I was surprised that part was missing.
From now until always , the mother singing will give me chills. Its funny that it starts at 3:02 . 302 is code for a 72 hr psych hold, or at least a trip up to the hospital. And yes, being without your child is maddening. You come undone .,
It's too bad that this got released at the same time "Hook" came out, with Robin Williams.......not that I don't like Robin....he was brilliant!.....It affected the success of this film however. Not to mention it was pro union, pro....We the little guys against big biz and government, and, alas, when was the last time musicals were big? Kenny Ortega was also Brilliant with this production.....Gene Kelly was even there for technical support!!!!
i know this comment is old, but this video could be interesting. its the broadway version of newsies and the broadway version of annie fighting in a sing/dance off. its the closest youll get to the thing you asked for lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ae6rlzdTRMo.html
There were two things that I wish were in the musical. 1.The mother with Patric that was beautiful.I would have loved to see that part on Broadway. 2.I always lived how there were ao many little kids in this song.Considering most newsies were aged 8-16ish 3.I loved how many newsies joined in on the streets.
The Patrick part is just to show that some runaways became newsies as a way to survive after they left home. A mother was looking for her runaway son among a bunch of Newsies.
I had this idea for a newsies 2. Jack and his girl are happily living. When jack's dad gets parole, goes to find his son finds him happy and jack snaps into obedient son mode. Girl is left lonely and the other main character(curly hair not les, his brother) gets a girl, goes to jack who gives him no advice except to listen to his parents. The newsies can't et much work because people won't go out and buy papers anymore, they want them delivered so they depend jack an he won't help. At the end jack helps the newsies by standing up to his father and helps main character boy get the girl.
Thisismyfirstname Thisismylastname I know. But jack kelly was made up. Thus a story is created. The people of new york really wanted their news papers delivered to their house so the newsies had this problem to deal with. and besides it is just an idea.
***** I know It was a true story, I just really enjoyed the movie and the story behind it. The newsies losing their jobs was also a problem they faced so it would loosely follow the story but just adding another spin on it by bringing back jack kelly
The problem is that it’d just be the same formula. >Jack loses his way >Newsies show him that they’re his family >Jack’s all like “Shit you’re right” >Jack comes back and saves the day Plus it takes the whole “standing up for your rights” moral away if the story became more about the gang trying to get Jack back and less about them trying to get their rights back. Not to mention I think Jack is too old and at that age of independence to where he’d want to go back to his dad. He’d probably be too used to having others relying on him for him to go back to relying on a deadbeat dad. He’s resourceful and knows how to hold his own, not to mention there’s probably a lot of trust issues considering that he stated “I got no folks nowhere” in the musical, like he disowned his folks (or they’re just dead in the musical) The idea isn’t bad it just has a lot of plot holes/inconsistency. But that’s how a lot of ideas start out.
It makes sense. I'll look at another part of the script...see if there's a Specs anywhere. I thought it was, too, but I didn't want to give you false information
