Does anyone else get chills throughout the whole song? Especially when they sing "now the world will hear what we got to say" and "Pulitzer may own the world but he don't own us"
the line that really does it is "What we do today will be tomorrow's news." I'm honestly amazed that this and Do You Hear the People Sing? from Les Mis don't get used as protest songs more often.
no but i kinda feel it when they say "..even though we ain't got hats or badges.." it just makes me go "OOOOOO DAMN" i think its the way jack says it in addition to the piano in the background
I thought I was the only one! This movie is literally my childhood. I have watched it so many times that now I get goosebumps on pretty much every song from this movie.
The real newsies didn’t beat up kids in the street , but they sure as shit dumped water on adult newsstand proprietors who continued selling the papers the boys were striking against and pelted them with spoiled fruit.
I think this whole scene can basically be described as: David: Jack, no. Jack: Jack, yes! Actually, no, that's the whole movie. But, I seriously can't get over David's face throughout this song. He's so done, and it's hilarious. (Especially when Jack grabs him by the shoulders, omg)
*I love how David* *is just walking around* *watching everyone like he wasn't* *informed that this is a musical* 😂 he was probably thinking " 0.o WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING? WHY ARE YOU SINGING. OMG NO. WHY ARE YOU DANCING. STAP. I WASN'T INFORMED THAT THIS IS A MUSICAL. GUYS. HEY GUYS . STAP IT." Then at the end he is just kinda like "So this is a musical now. _-_"
David Moscow was apparently a terrible dancer, so they tried to keep the camera off him or just have him not dance. You can see some of his awful dance skills in Seize the Day.
I mean if the song wasn't epic enough, that "When the young stand tall" line had to happen... honestly, whoever was in charge of the soundtrack of this should be immensely pleased with themselves
things about Jack Kelly that I wish they didn't change for the stage; -his hat -his scarf -his hopefulness (true he has a lot of hope in the stage production but in the movie it was WAYYY more present!) Side notes; When Davey says "we can't beat up kids in the streets, it'll give us a bad name!" and Crutchie shouts "can't get any worse!" The World is the newspaper they work for so the song is a play on words for both The World Newspaper and the ACTUAL world! hehe XD
They changed him from "Cowboy" to "starving artist" and I hate it. He was great the way he was. They also took out the scene where he meets David's parents, which is actually a pretty pivotal moment for Jack and the audience. It emphasizes his loneliness about not having a family like David does and leads him into "Santa Fe", except in the movie it's clear he doesn't really want to go there, he just thinks it's all he has left because, as he said, he has nobody waiting up for him at home, he has no family. So yeah, thanks for ruining my favorite character Disney
People always come for me when I say I like Jack better in the movie. I realize that Jeremy Jordans’s voice is better but that’s because he’s a Broadway actor. Christian Bale didn’t even know it was going to be a musical until after he agreed to be in it. In the musical Jack is very angsty and secretly artsy. (He seems a lot older than 17. Obviously because Jer Jor is not 17) In the movie Jack is more of a kid and it breaks my heart because he is so young and has to deal with all of this. He has no real family, he has a job that won’t get him anywhere, he wants to go to Santa Fe because it’s his only option at this point. They also took away his bandanna, and cowboy hat and the other boys don’t call him cowboy which I felt like gave Jack more of a connection with the other characters. Thank you for coming to my ted talk🤠
Newsies is my all-time favorite movie. I used to watch it growing up and still know all the lines. Everytime I turn it on I have a huge smile on my face. :D
Katie Norton same here. It was one of the first musicals I had ever truly appreciated. I even tried to make my nine/ten year old friends watch it at my birthday party. It didn't go well as most of them didn't really like musicals and it just ended up being a bunch of third grade girls pow-wowing about how cute (some even said hot... but then again, we were weird third graders) the boys in the movie were. But, just recently the script company that our county uses has finally gotten Newsies and I'm dying for it to be Newsies.
Jamie Nuckols this film has just become even better over time since Christian Bale eventually went on to become Batman. From singing and dancing, to the dark knight. Talk about a broad career lol.
Jamie Nuckols He literally hates Newsies. It’s never happening. There is a brief moment in an interview where he sings a bit of it and then goes on to say ‘it’s not my thing’.
U really dont see such good acting by every single person in a movie often let a lone musical. They broke the mold with this one i dont think anything will top it in my opionion
@@CricketsTavern i couldn’t get through 30 minutes of Hamilton bc of that one guy I think his name was Lil Manuel or something. Just something about that guy is off, he didn’t seem like that good of a performer compared to the others
I have watched this movie more times than I can count and I still get chills when they start to sing this song. You know it’s a great movie when people voluntarily watch it more than once! Why can’t they make movies like this anymore?!?
I discovered this movie through the Broadway musical that someone had uploaded a while back. I am now in love with the movie, and I love it even more than the Broadway version! This film had great characters, fantastic choreography, catchy as hell music, and gritty reality of the era depicted. If anyone hates on this film, I'll soak ya!
I just love how “The World Will Know” is a play on words. The newspaper company IS “The World” but the legit ENTIRE world knows of this strike. It’s just so empowering to me and I’m obsessed with these songs.
If they showed the Newsies as part of the History curriculum, more kids would actually LEARN history is interesting! My kids were homeschooled, and it WAS part of the curriculum!
Pretty sure teaching the youth of America to unionize from a young age is high up on the priority list of things the wealthy don't want in this country.
My favorite part was always, “And the world will know! That this ain't no game That we got a ton of rotten fruit and perfect aim” it’s just lyrical magic.

just remember when this movie dropped it "flopped" in the theaters but sometimes people don't get your work when it comes out. Now it's a classic. So believe in yourself :)
i see a lot of people saying they like this better than the broadway version, but i like the broadway better - at least right now. i haven't watched the movie in ages and i can't remember it that well. i at least like the music bits from broadway better, they're a lot cleaner. edit: wait never mind i just watched carrying the banner and i like the movie better. broadway's still good, and i like some parts of that better than some parts of the movie, but there's just something about this.
That's the issue. The vocals are too clean. You can hear the anger in this version. In the Broadway version not so much. This is much more nitty gritty.
My mom and I have a CD of the soundtrack in our car and we listen to it a lot and sing along and almost every time we listen to this song without fault when they say "a ton of rotten fruit and perfect aim" we turn to each other and in unison say " p o i f e c t "
Finally watched this musical (for a local production done by amazing teens and one 10 year old) then the broadway production and it's kind of amazing how this is reflecting the current political environment, heck the board says "Venezuela raids". Love the soundtrack, easily one of my favorites so far.
2:17 Can't help but think, "You know, if you HADN'T been singing and dancing so loudly, maybe you would've been able to sneak up on them like you wanted."
Best musical ever. I hadn't seen the film in like 10 years until a week or so ago and I still knew most of the words and can't stop watching clips of the songs. Best part - its Christian Bale... singin... lol.
I love this movie! I love this musical! Then people wonder how you become a song writer. Everyone can learn from the story of the " Newsies ". Still one of the better made musicals.
I've been homeschooled most my life, but I've also gone to a homeschool group once a week for most of that, and I remember one year my teacher at the group showed is this song for history, and I still get chills every time I hear it.
Love this. SAG-AFTRA member here supporting fellow full-time writer pre-WGA besties. We picketed at Disney Studios and sang along Newsies with the strike captains and other picketers. 🗞️ 💪🏽🔥
The Good old Days When movies had real purpose and specially the old disney ones instant classic and truly a rare gem 💎 of are lifetimes that only gets more respect and better with age
I get so many chills from this song when I saw a musical of it and I heard this song and this line I knew I will love newises forever and the line is "Mr Pulitzer we got news for you" I was like you go but chils at the same time love newises
Mcconagall :professor Dumbledore the slytherins are striking Dumbledore: oh no how bad? Mcconagall: they're singing and dancing in the halls, in the great hall, in front hufflepuff and gryffindor and ravenclaw common rooms Dumbledore: well we're screwed Snape: (in his head) yess way to go slytherin gryffindors aren't the center of attention anymore Mcconagall: snape when did you get here Snape: i've been here the whole time its a hogwrts teacher's meeting
Had this song’s melody stuck in my head since I watched it as a kid years ago watched it a second time today as a 24 year old I had no idea it was a true story.Yes kids we can make a difference:)Xxx
in Quebec we have men and women handing out newspapers at our subway stations. i always think of them as newsies. yes, we don't use children anymore but Quebec still has adult newsies
The greatest Pro worker and Union song I've ever heard... No one on the bottom has ever gotten their due, because the people on the top graciously gave it to them We took our rights and protections with blood, sweat and under threat the whole way.
The first time I saw this musical, this was the dialogue I was expecting... Jack: Well that works pretty good, so what else? Davie: They can't treat us like we don't exist. Jack to all the other newsies: Do We ExIsT!?
I just happened to discover newsies a little after I started reading a book about a similar story. It was kinda weird but I’m glad I found it because this movie is AWESOME
I was 9 and a half years old the first time I saw this movie when it first came out. I loved it then and I still love it. I remember being very excited when the musical first came out. Then I remember feeling very let down when I saw it. It just wasn’t as good as this movie.
I don't think this film got nearly enough credit when it came out. There's some hiccups but they're few and far between and sometimes work to make the movie better like the weird edit of Duvall talking without sound after getting excited.. I think this story and film was made to echo the sentiments of the book, Think and Grow Rich, written by Napoleon Hill.
" The world will know what stoping the presses really means." "What we do today will be tomaros news." " the world will wonder how we made the tables turn" So good.
I saw dis at the Springer it was for a feild trip I was like it had curse words in it *somebody brings it up* teacher:u could barely here it me:*mind:Barley hear it I heard it loud and clear*
