This is why I don’t regret giving money to these guys, they are not looking to charge us like 25$ for this new part and a lot of vendors would jump at the opportunity!

Hi Dave, the disk looks like it works very well. As others commented already, popcorning never bothered me. However, I have noticed a very small amount of larger ground coffee particles which I suspect the disk will eliminate. Regarding disk material could uou pass onto Matin my preference for stainless steel. Not keen on plastic from food safety or longevity points of view.
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 4 года назад
I will..not sure the polycarbonate is a problem but I'll let him know. It might be tricky to stop a steel disk spinning loose though?
@misenko856
@misenko856 4 года назад
@@DaveCorbey Good thing is that it's transculent so you can still see the burrs and very light. You can have food grade polycarbonate so I can't see problem with this. Maybe they could offer both versions :)

I’m curious about the wobble In the shaft/column I’m seeing in this video. James’ video also showed some wobble, he didn’t discuss it but I noticed it. Is this an alignment issue? Does it impact particle size/consistency
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 4 года назад
There is no wobble in shaft, its just the mounting nut and burr holdown key thread not central in the shaft. Doesn't affect burrs, grind or anything else. I did a vid about it and have also explained in various comments before. The shaft itself and the burr on it is central and does not wobble.

This is great user commitment by Niche. Just a bit of nitpicking about the name - “disk” is the preferred spelling in American English, and it’s also the spelling used for computer-related objects, such as a hard disk. “Disc” is the preferred spelling in British English. (source: Grammarly)

I LOVE this disc. Better grind, better cup of coffee... I DO think however that it seems the time does take longer. Like 5 seconds maybe for 39.5 grams.

Hi Dave! Just wondering, what effect does this have on burr wear - especially the inner burr? I see that the disk spins with the inner burr, so the beans are always fed into and crushed by the same part of the burr. Would this not cause that specific part, or bean path, of the inner burr to become more dull than the rest?
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 4 года назад
No, the beans might go thru the hole but they soon spread out as they grind. If you clean grinder every 2 months simply change disk position if you are worried.

@Dave Corbey Has there been any discussion on why they only went for one slot in the disk? I wonder what would happen if there was two?
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 4 года назад
It's about controlling the flow "slowing it down", too many holes and it's not as effective.
@1983Jacko
@1983Jacko 3 года назад
Does it stop popcorning or does it reduce it? I still see some beans flying around in there hitting the lid.
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 3 года назад
It reduces it but it's not there to stop popcorning, it's there for flow control. By feeding the beans at a consistent rate, the particle size distribution is reduced and as a side benefit, motor and gearbox load are reduced.,
@DHGroove
@DHGroove 4 года назад
Hi Dave, since the disk rotates with the burrs at a seemingly identical position, do you think this may cause uneven wear over time with the internal burr right below the opening? Other than that, this looks like a great bit of engineering!
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 4 года назад
No it will be fine
@n00baTr00pa
@n00baTr00pa 4 года назад
Yes but all wear may be focused one one section of the cone so maybe not.
@TehGookstuh
@TehGookstuh 4 года назад
@@DaveCorbey Can you give more of an explanation as to why?
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 4 года назад
@@TehGookstuh The bean enters at the breaker zone, this starts to break it up. There's not a huge amount of wear that affects grind. As the bean starts to crush, it works around the burr as normal. As someone else said, in domestic use you will get 20 to 30 years out of the burrs based on 1/2 kilo a week consumption. Also when you clean the grinder every 2 or 3 months, it's unlikely the disk will go back in exactly the same place.
@slippyg
@slippyg 4 года назад
It'll only hit the pre breaker at the same position. By time the bean breaks up due to the spin, I doubt it would have any effect at all on different wear

@lalu225 3 года назад
Great content, thank you. Do I notice a slight wobble? Is that expected?
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 3 года назад
It's simply the hole /thread of the securing bolt for top burr is slightly off centre. The securing bolt simply holds down a cap and keyway securing the top burr. The burr and shaft are aligned and don't wobble. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wQ78jke6ABs.html

Do you thing the motor could eventually last longer using this disk ?
@DaveCorbey
@DaveCorbey 4 года назад
Instinctively my feeling is that reducing the maximum power the grinder takes to do it's job must always be a good thing. However the total "work" the grinder has to do is the same in both cases. So it probably makes little difference e.g. you can lift a heavy weight by hand or using a long lever the amount of "work" done is the same, the maximum effort is less. I hope that makes sense.
