This is a well-thought-out analysis but you cannot compare a junior in college and hold him to the same standard as a veteran going into his 4th year. A more fair analysis would be to do a side-by-side comparison of Caleb and Justin in their last year as a college player. Considering the team around both of them and what they were being asked to do. Did they even play in the same style of offense?

Caleb had 1,100 passing attempts in 37 games. Justin had 618 (579 as a starter in 22 games) in 34 total games. Mitch Trubisky btw had 579 yikes. I don't know why we should be even comparing them as prospects. Caleb is far more refined and experienced as a thrower and he's had to do with weaker talent comparatively. I was in love with Justin's traits, just like i am now with Caleb's but I knew he was gonna need that year to sit, he was still a massive project but there wasn't a throw he couldn't make. So it was all about how much could we keep Dalton out there but that was that. This game is all about reps and experience.

The narrative of him having a down year needs to be cleaned up. He played two fewer games last year, which makes up for the difference in passing stat #’s. His comp% & passer rating increased. USC averaged the same ppg, Red Zone Td% same. Fumbles were up, this and any apprehension on his height are the only legit red flags. Painting his nails? He wrote F*ck ND on them = dawg. Many veteran football players cry after losing a game against a rival = means everything to you. I would be nice to see that when we lose to GB

Justin Fields survived the horrible dysfunction of Da Bears staff. He learned two systems and will learn this new system of Shane who is Elite. Tyson Bagent learned this system well playing for Justin during his throwing hand injury earning his 2 - 2 record! Tyson defeated Fields in record but remains QB2 because all rookies need time to grow. Jordan Love is in his fourth year and got into the playoffs. Da Bears will get into the playoffs and take the North in 2024. Tyson Bagent might even help out again. 🐻⬇️🧆🏝️

Swift seems to be obsessed with comparing Caleb with Manning, Burrow, and Luck. He doesn't have to be those guys, he just has to be better than Justin Fields. That's the point that Justin Fields extremists seem to NOT UNDERSTAND. Caleb isn't replacing Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck, he's replacing Fields and the bar is low. Guys like Lawrence, Bryce Young, and Justin Fields played on college teams that were stacked so comparing QBs in college is difficult. The precise reason why Fields has struggled in the NFL and why Trevor hasnt lived up to his hype is because they played on college teams that were far superior to their competition. They never experienced a skill gap or saw adversity until the NFL and they havent adjusted yet.

Swifty when you watch film on Drake Maye, one of the things that impresses me the most is how he manipulates the secondary with his eyes, it wasn't just that he was going thru his progressions either, there was definately purpose to it. He did it on alot of occasions as well. There is alot I like about his game but that stood out. Look forward to the videos on him and JD. Keep up the great work bro!!! 🐻⬇️ ✌️✝️

Very honest evaluation of Williams and no Matter who QB's the bears we're hoping the team can support him. Talent only goes so far but adding talent even average talent helps very good talent! Fields showed with limited talent added his play got better. Imagine adding 2 1st round picks and a few 2nd round 3rd round picks what the bears will be? Bear down!❤❤❤

Shades of Aaron Rodgers, see some mahomes, comparisons to Wilson, Dak and Kyler. An elite arm with top 5 potential. Very correctable flaws…… no, let’s stick with a QB with the exact same flaws today that he had in college. Someone who has hit 225 passing yards 6 times in 39 games.

If you say you've watched every snap of Caleb Williams and one of your takeaways is that he "Hasn't shown an ability to operate on time within the structure of an offense" then I have extreme reservations with whatever grading criteria you're using. The structure and timing plays are littered throughout his tape and his quick release will translate much faster to the NFL than Justin's has and he's spent 3 years trying to clean his hitch up.
@SwiftSportsNetwork
@SwiftSportsNetwork 7 месяцев назад
If you mean his ability to operate a ONE read offense, than ok you can say that....but even then he too often passed on what the defense gave him and tried to play Hero ball. Are you saying you didn't see that??
@alterego7287
@alterego7287 7 месяцев назад
@@SwiftSportsNetwork I would say I have seen plenty of both. As a USC fan I know I watched games knowing that CW would often have to create outside of the offense because the line was so bad. That is why I believe he would be more consistent playing on time behind even an average O line and real pro style system.

@@SwiftSportsNetwork what i took away from the hero ball and holding onto the ball was not that they were inherent issues. the defense was giving up 35 points a game. no weapons or talent around him to speak of. you saw him play on time, getting the ball out quickly, and going through his progressions when he didn't feel that he had to be superman. whereas justin had one of the best surrounding casts in college football and these issues showed up much more frequently. caleb's pocket presence is where he separates himself to me. he has that rare ability to sense pressure and know when to bail from a pocket and when not to. keeps his eyes downfield and doesn't panic when the play breaks down which is a trait that all of the elite qb's have.

Time to move away from Feilds, He has not caught on. Most likely never will. Regardless who we take at qb. Are there things that can make Justin better of course. He doesn't trust his players when he needs to. He showed some flashes of that with Moore. But he's too scared at times to make that throw even when guys are wide open. Caleb will take those risks in my opinion.

Nice Job Swifty! The only Caleb char question s/b if he loves football, ie 1st to arrive, last to leave like Justin. The other stuff doesn't matter; just what he does on the field. Also does your assessment consider how much better/deeper USC WRs & TEs were vs USC opponents' DBs? It a massive gap; check out any of the college scouting sites. The best Pac12 Pass D he faced was Oregon, #62 in FBS and 5 of the worst 15 in FBS. Films show USC receivers were constantly wide open (except ND game). Only the people who haven't done any research are blindly into Williams without some considerable reservations.

Watched 30 All22. Dude was 50/50 playing on time. Does anticipate throws for a QB in a Air raid system. He is better than Justin Fields at moving in the pocket to create time. Since Kingsbury wasnt the USC OC why would Williams be better in Washington? Sam Howell was an Air raid system qb

Just wildly over emphasizing the weaknesses. People are trying so hard to go the other way on Caleb now that we’ve reached “he’s not a safe prospect” status. For all the talk of hero ball and taking to many risks everyone sure likes to not mention that he had 5(!) ints in this “down year” exact same number he had in his heisman year, while also increasing his comp %! You can certainly point out flaws and areas of improvement, but this felt like you were intentionally trying to talk yourself out of him.

Swift I believe your gonna really like Maye’s tape we all know the NFL is a much faster game. With the right coaches and players my opinion is Williams had some good flashes but the NFL compared to college is a much different pressure game. I believe the Bears are going to stay at number 1 because you don’t have many drafts like last year so that being said teams I believe will wait and negotiate when they need to that being said I believe there are more offensive players, then defensive players in this upcoming draft. So teams are not going to be throwing the kitchen sink at the Bears. I believe that the Bears will take MHJ and I will say from the tape I watched with low quality players Drake Maye is the best quarterback coming out of this draft. We will hear Maye’s name more this upcoming season. Justin and Williams has a very similar game Justin is a bigger player and running skills are elite but the pro’s say this is a passing league so if we draft a quarterback I’m hoping it’s Maye and if you draft him which I don’t see happening but anything is possible then you have to trade Justin for the best return. Thanks Swift

I agree, but I DO think Drake IS going to be the pick if they stay at 1 or move down to 2. If the Bears like Maye alot then they might not risk moving down, even if its only 1 spot unless they get some assurance that Maye will be there at 2. Only time will tell, I'm getting impatient. 🐻⬇️ ✌️✝️

Where did you come up with 31 fumbles? I see someone on Twitter said Caleb had 31 fumbles, and that stat keeps getting re-posted over and over. Yet I have found NOTHING showing it to be true. This is what I keep finding: Caleb Williams had 17 fumbles in 3 years of college ball - 5 of those were turnovers - lost to the other team. In comparison: Justin Fields had 12 fumbles in college - 5 of those were turnovers. Drake Maye had 12 fumbles in college - 7 of those were turnovers. Jayden Daniels had 11 fumbles in college - 6 of those were turnovers. JJ McCarthy had 12 fumbles in college - 1 of those were turnovers. Michael Penix had 4 fumbles in college - 1 of those were turnovers.

Great breakdown! THANK YOU! I don't expect Poles to be swayed by the media hype, either for or against. Personally, if Poles isn't offered a haul to trade down, I think he'll draft Caleb. However, I don't see that requiring him to trade Fields before the draft. Why not bring in Caleb to backup Fields? Give him time to adjust to the NFL, learn, and work on his weaknesses. Fields has already proven he's a pro and I think he can handle this situation. Plus, Fields can be traded later if that ends up needing to be the decision by the org.

He’s gonna struggle with the NFL speed and getting sacked. He’s not the fastest on the field anymore. My concern is how he was pouting; and body language. You all criticized the best QB the bears ever had in Cutler for the same thing. I also question his physical toughness; and MENTAL toughness. Fields only needs to quicken his release; his mental and physical toughness cannot be questioned. With the haul they get; playmakers all around. It’s much easier to read a defense when you have open targets. I’m glad I’m not Ryan Poles.

I am weary of USC QB hype train. I have not seen any analyst catch on, but Lincoln Riley's QB's have been good at NFL level. You have Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Spencer Rattler, Jalen Hurts, and now we have Caleb Williams. Baker is a guy you want to get behind, just like Fields, but he's a middle of the road NFL starter, Kyler Murray has shown flashes but he's overpaid, injury prone and you not winning a title with him, less is spoken about Spencer Rattler the better, Jalen Hurts has had one monster season in the NFL with probably the most talented roster in the NFL which he used to get the biggest contract in the NFL, he didn't do much before his purple patch NFL season and last year, he regressed as the year went on, with his monster contract kicking in, eagles will have to shed some talent, we will see whether it was Hurts taking the Eagles to becoming one of the best NFL teams or the Eagles team talent doing so, my guess it was more of a team talent than Hurts being a top 5 QB. With Brock Purdy's success, I saw Bill Parcell's QB evaluation guidelines resurface, while they are not be all and perfect, QB's that fit them though have had better than average success rate in NFL. I believe Jayden Daniels fits those parameters the best of all first round QB's. Except for one year, he's improved every year, he changed schools, learned new offense, was good first year, improved a LOT in his second year. Caleb split time his first year, had good first year at USC, feel like he regressed last year, he was doing nationwide commercials and pretty much enjoying being a celebrity QB already. Caleb's record against ranked teams last year was HORRIBLE, and it wasn't that he had good games and just lost, his numbers halved or more than halved, everyone can have a stinker or two of a game, but last year, he seemed to shrink playing against big boys and padded those numbers on weak sisters. Unless a team is tanking, every NFL team is a big boy you play against. People compare him to Mahomes and how he can throw from every angle, scramble and throw on a run, Bears fans seem to forget that a certain Jay Cutler would also throw the ball from every angle, could scramble and throw on a run, Cutler's results weren't as good when he did that, and were often disastrous. I will be honest, I have only watched 3 or 4 USC games this past year, but in NONE of them did I see a top 10 QB, what I saw in some of them were shades not of Jay Cutler but of Rex Grossman actually, and that's even worse. I love Marvin Harrison as a player, I have wanted the bears to draft him for a year now BUT as I have warmed up to the idea of the bears drafting Jayden Daniels, I have also warmed up to the idea of bears "doing a cincinati bengals" and drafting a QB and his top WR or if his top WR is gone, drafting his second WR from college. There is something to be said for the connection Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase have and Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers combo on the Bears is incredibly intriguing to me. I also watch a lot of soccer, many teams have players with "UNIQUE" talents, they build their teams around those players because they are the best players they have, but in soccer, smaller teams sell their best players for profit to bigger teams, it's a way to pay the bills, and what often happens is that those "unique" talents that made the players great in smaller teams are actually a hindrance when they get to bigger teams, because those bigger teams already have very talented players and most won't build their team around the new signing but the new signing is there to enhance what they already have. I feel like Caleb Williams might be a "unique" talent, but you will have to cater to his uniqueness, hide his deficiencies, and lean on his strengths. That is gonna require his teammates buying in, coaches that understand those things and then can create game plans around those things, management that gets new players to help with that. Most teams don't do that, they have a template of what they want to do and get players for that. Will Ryan Poles and Matt Eberfleus scrape some or all of what they has build already to cater to Caleb's needs...??? Since they didn't hire Cliff Kingsbury, my guess is that they is not.

Sounds about right. No qb is a sure thing. Even Peyton manning went after Ryan leaf and both were considered sure things. The problem is we will never have this pick again unless things r really bad. Look at Super Bowl this year, if u don’t have a franchise qb it’s a tough world. Purdy played great for the more talented team. Mahomes trumped him. This is ur one chance to try for a franchise guy unless ur seriously believe fields is that. I do not. I think it’s 10% chance he is franchise guy with all his litany of flaws. My numbers were 33% of qbs the last 15 years r perennial starters in 1st and 2nd round. 4% outside those rounds. The kicker is most drafts have 0-2 of those guys. Last 15 years, 50% of time best qb in a draft was the first one taken. And if a few dumb franchises don’t fuck up its more. Therefore ur best chance to get a franchise guy if u feel u need one is if u have the first pick. It’s only a ~40% chance but once that first guy is off the board the odds plummet. To me Williams seems like fields, but with more upside. Similar flaws, less athleticism better arm and better mind. He needs a good coach, but so does fields so that doesn’t change my mind. I love the pocket presence which fields for all his athleticism lacks at times. My concern with Williams is character. Thats and decision making is what sinks most of these Uber talented guys. Fields has good character. Not the speed of decision making. We have a much better situation to develop any new qb now than fields had. So I think our odds of converting go up. But u gotta make sure character is not an issue. I think if we trade down it’s cause of character shit in both Williams and maye.

Hey Swifty great stuff here... So I decided to take a deeper dive into Patrick Mahomes and after watching him in High School and College I see why they comp Caleb to Pat... Granted they played in the same air raid attack in college and this lends to the comparison that so called experts are making...Size wise Mahomes at 6'3" 230 the real difference between the two as Pat can take mamoth shots to that notion Dak is also built like Pat... Caleb is definitely bigger than Kyler and Russel Wilson but not as big as Dak or Pat... Caleb is a more dynamic Baker Mayfield size wise.... I see why scouts were leery on Mahomes and its appears to be the same thing with Caleb but that is also the brilliance that they possess... I'm a Fields fan but have become a non Caleb hater after further review... I just want to see great QB play for my Bears... In this off season process I have become comfortable with either choice that Poles makes, I now like both options...

It's pretty simple to me, if the Bears take Williams, they give up on MHJ and JF1 and they also give up the probability of 2 number 1 picks again in 2025 which if we allow Williams to go to another Carolina situation could result in another top 5 pick. DJ Moore and JF1 are the real deal and a legitimate 2nd option or 1A, 1B, makes the Bears dangerous. I believe with the right moves, the Bears can contend this year with the team they have now and the proper additions but drafting a rookie quarterback will definitely set us back. If the Bears had done the right thing when they drafted JF1 we wouldn't be having this conversation because at some point JF1 is going to silence all the critics.

I started watching a bit here and there but not nearly as much as you did for this video (half hour here, twenty minutes there..maybe 3-4 hours total?) and Yeah, I've seen the same positives and negatives. My biggest concern with him is that he may end up needing 2-3 years to actually adjust to the NFL game given his college experience and playing out of the gun with that single read offense. I doubt the Bears give Flus 2-3 more years, and I feel like we'd just be repeating our usual pattern if we take him. It will mean multiple coaches, multiple OC's, and fans clamoring to trade him by the 2026 draft....I feel like his eventual ceiling might be insanely high, IF he goes to the right team. I don't feel the Bears are that team because they can't afford the same patience with him and the coaches to give him any real stability. He may be best off with the Commanders tbh.

His arm talent, his quick release, his wide range of off platform throws at different angles it’s right there with Patrick Mahomes. Can you throw his left hand? I don’t know, does it matter? So you combine the skills of Patrick Mahomes with the twitchy running ability of Justin Fields. Caleb Williams is actually a little bit quicker and harder to tackle even though he might not be as fast as Justin, he certainly is twitchy quick and hard to bring down because he’s not built like a quarterback, he’s built like a running back. And being 4.5 speed isn’t exactly slow, we just hope he’s not running as often as Justin but making throws as he steps up into the pocket more often and keep his eyes down Field without missing wide open targets. The more I see the more I like, and I don’t have any negative feelings about him at all… And I think he can adapt to the NFL as quickly as CJ Stroud, Dak Prescott or Ben Roethlisberger as they had winning seasons their rookie year since they were set up with a really good team in the first year of their NFL careers. He looks like he can run the offense very quickly. Play within the structure of the offense and it’s obvious he has the ability to make something out of nothing. His fundamentals are very consistent, his footwork is also delivered and consistent. And his ability to throw in the opposite direction as he goes full speed whether the left or to the right of the field is something he can do quite easily. I hope the offensive linestays above average so he doesn’t get hurt too soon.

I like Justin Fields the first year he played there was no offensive line. Most quarterback in the NFL never had time to throw the ball the second year the rebuild, no weapons, no offense of line. This is the first year he really had a chance to play and the offensive line was still terrible. You’ve tried the first pic for Kings Ransom, and wait a year or two can always get a quarterback never get that kind of draft capital maybe get a first round this year I thought first round next year and another first round in 2026 a quarterback doesn’t just win Super Bowls look at the Baltimore Ravens Trent Dilford was horrible, but the defense was great He just managed the game Justin Field, this much much better quarterback just my thoughts

I really do appreciate all your time and hard work in providing your evaluations and information about my favorite team, but I have a hard time believing that you don't believe that Caleb Williams is the best quarterback prospect in this class. I agree Caleb Williams should not be compared to Patrick mahomes, but Drake Maye is not on the same level as Caleb Williams. Jayden Daniels only did it for one season which also proves he is not yet on Caleb's level. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I was a Field’s fan but then realized that Caleb will be drafted with the Bears, but if you listened to Kevin Warren interview, how he said how much he loves Justin & is glad he’s a Bear, could he be saying that to get a better draft pick? Maybe but Kevin is not a person to do that, he really likes Justin, he even went to Justin’s graduation at Ohio State & had a great relationship in the big-10 🤔🤔🤔

You should study the Air Raid offense my man. 1 Read, then Caleb plays hero ball. He wasn't sitting in the pocket going through his reads, he was just looking for ANYONE to get open. You have to understand what you are watching. Every scout will tell you it was primarily a 1 read offense, anyone telling you different needs to look harder. Thanks for the comment though.

I understand why he holds the ball too long especially on a team with a below average offensive line. And he’s had to play hero ball quite often because his line is weak and the defense sucked at USC so he had to play a lot of ball and of course you don’t want to see too much of that in the NFL. What we are worried about is the same thing we are excited about when it comes to his skills. I was adjusting Field fan, I wanted him to have another opportunity with more talent, unfortunately they traded him away but if this is who they are going with that I am going to root for him and I do believe he can be a better quarterback sooner than Justin Fields because of the way he plays within the structure. He also is better in the pocket as far as stepping up running away, plus he keeps his eyes down feel better and hopefully with a much improved offensive line Caleb Williams can be a better quarterback much sooner because of the town around him… I will miss Justin Fields, I hope he has a good career in Pittsburgh and it was sad to see him go, but now we have Caleb Williams, a quarterback with all the ability in the world to be great I believe he can be a great quarterback in Chicago. so let’s go guys, bear down!!!!

Justin Fields is bigger, stronger, and faster. And Justin Fields can handle playing in the cold. He is used to it. I don’t think Caleb Williams is big enough to withstand the rigors of the NFL.

For me it’s just the unknown. We know what we have in Fields and the upward trajectory both him and the team are on. Williams is the unknown. Even if Williams plays at the same level as Fields it’s a failure because you passed up a generational WR to get him. To be clear it’s not fear because I believe Fields can be great. If I had any doubts about Fields I would say draft Williams.
@FredGamble-p5t

Hey Swifty, big fan, a thing no one is talking about the Fields trade is this. Yes, they may have been able to get a better trade for him but is that true. A 6th round pick next year is like a 7th round pick this year. Most of us have faith in Justin including Poles. So, if he was offered a 6th this year or even a 5th both scenarios would be better than next year's 6th. However, when Justin gets into that building and starts playing for that team, then we all believe he could end up starting! Therefore, what if Poles thinks the same thing, and says I can't get a conditional pick for this year, and for Fields we really want at least a 4th. Therefore, he trades him to PIT knowing that Justin could thrive there and gets the 4th Round Pick or higher he wanted, while keeping his word to do right by Justin, and sending Justin to somewhere that he will despite reports compete to start. This allows Poles to finish what he's doing with the team this year and give us more draft capital next year!

Swifty my friend you can watch all the film that there is. The NFL is a different animal than college football. The odds are against this young man to succeed in the NFL. Nicely done! Hmm, I hear all the same things about Justin Fields, holding on to the ball too much, can only play off script, fumbles too often. One more thing Tom Brady to me the best quarterback in football Mahomes is catching up Tom Brady had his worst games when you sack him early in game. It gets in a quarterback head. You’re looking at the defensive line and not down the field Justin Field had no time to throw the ball and when you get sacked early it gets in your head just saying, carry on

Just because a lot of qb's don't pan out doesn't mean that you don't keep trying to find one. The odds of the first qb chosen in the draft being successful are pretty good. I agree that he's not the best of the top prospects like Luck, Manning or Burrow. But, if they pass up this draft without getting their top qb, then it will be a complete failure. Fields's ceiling as a passer is middle of the pack and I can't wait until he's traded so we can stop talking about him.

I don’t think so, Drew Brees was only 6’0. He was able to deliver the ball quite well without knock downs, and he never had a problem seeing the field over his lineman who were much taller than him. Same thing with Rus and he is only 5’11, his height wasn’t a problem in Seattle or now while he is in Denver. Caleb being 6’1 doesn’t mean anything for situational football
