I'm very impressed with how the buccaneers went from worst to first but I have to admit I love the old red, orange, and white uniforms colors better then what they have now the logo was much more cool looking.

I agree. It would be cool if they brought back the original logo and team colors permanently.

The Buccaneers are one of the most forgotten lost dynasties from that time. With Lee Roy Selmon, Jimmie Giles and Doug Williams leading the way, the Buccaneers should've had more shots at a Super Bowl back then, but major botches by player personnel people and Hugh Culverhouse undermined the club until the Glazer family bought it.

McKay told a funny story about a kicker they had in training camp the first year. Seems the guy missed all his kicks. One day he came to McKay and said "Coach, I think I know the problem. It's you. You make me nervous and that's causing me to miss every kick". McKay replied, "It seems like we have a problem then because I was planning to be at all the games".

Baji Kimran McKay after Tampa Bay broke its 26-game losing streak: "Three or four plane crashes and we're in the playoffs." "We didn't block very well. But we made up for it by not tackling." Search for a pdf file called johnmckayreflections.pdf it's narrative from a coaching clinic right before he went to Tampa. McKay makes a lot of jokes during it.

Baji Kimran McKay supposedly once said when asked what he thought about his teams execution "I am in favor of it".

'I'm all for it.' He said. When he was at USC, the Trojans didn't play very well the first few trips to Notre Dame, When they went there in 1965, the Irish made them wait several minutes on the field in the cold before they came out. So next time there in 1967, when the referee told McKay to take the field he stayed in the locker room. The referee came a second time and told McKay.'If you don't get out there you forfeit the game..' 'What would the score be?', McKay asked. 'It would be 2-0.' The referee said. McKay,'That would be the best deal I've gotten here yet.' At Tampa after a loss: "Well, we didn't block very well...But we made up for it by not tackling.''

McKay says he was told by Michigan St. Head Coach Duffy Daugherty to get a dog.McKay went on, '...that way even when you lose, you come home and the dog will still be your friend. We got beat by Notre Dame 51-0, and when I came home, he bit me.'

One guy who played for McKay was Red Sox outfielder Fred Lynn, a great fielder who could catch anything. (He was a receiver at USC.) It must have been quite a contrast, comparing Lynn to those butterfingered Bucs.

Hugh Culverhouse deserves credit for bringing the team to Tampa Bay. However, because of his miserly ways, he went to great lengths to run this franchise into the ground for the better part of the 1980s and into the 90s. In hindsight, Tampa would have been better served to have a different founder.

in the 90s, it wasn't good if Jeff Kate was narrating a seven minute history of your team. That meant your team was so awful that nfl films had to add filler to make your team's yearbook more than forty five seconds long

I grew up in the Orlando area with my late grandparents. My grandfather said culverhouse had no business owning an NFL team. I said to my grandfather during a Bucs game on tv. You would be a better owner. Then that SOB. We both laugh. I was 15 then. He was glad when the Glazers bought the Bucs
