Morton was raped. Pressure everywhere. It's actually kinda funny. Left right up the middle pressure with a little bit of Hollywood. Score is not indicative because Denver couldn't move the ball. Dallas turned ball over on offense 3 times. Could have been 42-10.

Fun fact: even though the NFL did not officially start recording sacks until 1982, various teams did track their own players' defensive plays and for the 1977 season, the Cowboys record Harvey Martin getting 23.0 sacks in only 14 games (as in more than the "official" single season record 22.5 accomplished in a 16 game season)..... Also, Ed Jones is the reason the NFL started tracking passes batted down by defensive linemen as he was so good at that due to his height. All in all, the 4 men anchoring the defensive line (White, Martin, Jones, Pugh) finished their careers with unofficial sack totals of 111.0 (white), 114.0 (martin), 106.0 (Jones), and 95.5 (Pugh). Few teams in NFL history can boast a front 4 with that kind of pass rushing firepower.

@@22steve5150 Most teams would be happy with two guys like that in the D-Line let alone all four. I know the Rams of the 1960's early 1970's had a line like that same with the Purple People Eaters at the same time. Recently the Bills did in 2013 and 2014 before they messed that up with hiring Rex Ryan a 3-4 guy.

@@1983jblack Pitts front 4 definitely got the most media love. but statistically speaking, the front 4 of the Los Angeles Rams from 1966 to 1980, collectively as an organization in those 15 seasons, had the most QB sacks and where the best against the run.
@1983jblack
@1983jblack 2 года назад
@@bconni2 When you give the Rams 1966-80, we're talking nearly 3 different DL eras the exception of Olsen for the majority of it. The Rams used him, Jones, Lundy, Grier, Brown, Talbert, Bacon, Youngblood, Dryer, Brooks, and Fanning in that period. Pittsburgh from 1972-79 had Greenwood, Greene, Holmes, White, McGee, Furness, and Banaszak and the first four were together for most of 1972-77. The Rams had a ton of sacks I'll admit that completely, top run defense rotated between the Steelers, Rams, and Vikings pretty much. What I like most about Pittsburgh was even though they didn't get alot of sacks, they caused alot of turnovers because of the pressure they put on QBs. While the Rams and Vikes did that too, I've seen the Steelers just put more pressure on with their front four in films. Everyone's got their preferences and all were great lines along with the Giants front of the '50s and the Chargers of the early '60s
@bconni2
@bconni2 2 года назад
@@1983jblack after the fearsome foursome , the Rams organization transitioned into the next generation of d lineman pretty seamlessly. perhaps the media was stumped on giving the Jack Youngblood era of their front 4 a nick name, because they already had the FF. but that front four of Youngblood, Brooks, ( Olsen ) Fanning and Dryer was elite. from a statistical standpoint, the best in football.

Unlike today's version of the Cowboys, this Era was always a must see/watch product on Sundays and Monday nights. I'd rather watch these old films of the once mighty Cowboys in the Cotton Bowl and Texas Stadium than todays version in AT&T Stadium. Also, back then we never really had to endure seeing the owner after every play for his reaction, as we do for the narcissistic Jerry Jones.

The only defensive team better might have been the '85 Bears or the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. The 70s had so many GREAT defenses. The Vikings...Steelers...Rams...Cowboys ( superb in Super Bowls 5 and 6 as well as Super Bowls 10 and 12) The Early 70s Lions were as tough as nails. Broncos "Orange Crush" put fear into people. As did the Raiders. Defenses dominated until they changed the rules mid 70s to favor the offense. Best defensive game of the decade: Cowboys 5-3 playoff win over the Detroit Lions...1970. Honorable mention: Miami Super Bowl 7 win over the Redskins...who were nearly shut out 14-7. I personally believe the early 70s Cowboy defense was the best ever that they had. But the 77 team played in an era which gave the advantage to offenses. Yet the 77 defense dominated anyway. So it is a coin flip as to which Cowboy's defensive team was better.
