1984, a preview of things to come for the Chicago Bears. 1985 anyone? Bear Down, Chicago Bears!

After 10 seasons, 1984 was the first year where Walter Payton played on a Division Champion. His Bears would win 3 more Division Championships before he retired. In my lifetime, no one was better at his craft.

Walter Payton should have played in a Single Wing offense. He would have been phenomenal.

This game made me so happy. I didn't expect them to win and when they did it was their first playoff victory in my lifetime! What a day, what a game!

This is when the Bears finally turned it around the way Mike Ditka envisioned it. 1984 was a preview of 1985!

Steve Fuller helped the Chicago Bears beat the Washington Redskins in the playoffs in 1984. I can't help but wonder if the same result could have been achieved in 1986. I am not bashing Doug Flutie. He was in a situation I would not have asked for. Starting his 2nd NFL game in a playoff game. 1986 is still a mystery to me. Damn, Charles Martin for taking Jim McMahon out in week 12. Mike Tomczak, Steve Fuller, you can't help but wonder what might have been. Though a wise old man keeps telling me, about the 1985 Chicago Bears not becoming a dynasty, these simple words, "coulda, woulda, shoulda, and stop beating yourself up about it. It just wasn't meant to be." 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988 NFC Central Division Champions. Super Bowl XX champions. Man, the 1980's was a great time to be a fan of the Chicago Bears.

I really feel that 86 is a mystery for the Bears too. I don't really understand Ditka's lack of faith in Fuller that year since he'd led them to a playoff win on the road in 84.
@SECRETARIATguy224
@SECRETARIATguy224 Год назад
Fuller should have been given the same trust Ditka gave him in 84.
@SuperPrince1007

I do blame Doug Flutie because he sucked in that game. There's a great possibility that the Chicago bears would've won The Super Bowl in 1986 had that asswhole (Charles Martin) not intentionally hurt Jim McMahon. I'm speaking to you as a Green Bay Packer fan (my # 1 team) & a NY Giant fan my # 2 team). Charles Martin should've been thrown out of the NFL for doing what he did to Jim McMahon. I'm shocked to this day that nobody on the Chicago Bear Team went after him. Do any of you think that had he done that to Terry Bradshaw that Jack Lambert or Mean Joe Greene wouldn't have gone after him for doing that?
@spencerpalmer7118
@spencerpalmer7118 10 месяцев назад
@SuperPrince1007 , having Doug Flutie in at quarterback in the playoffs was definitely not the best move. Yes, the Bears would have been better off with Jim McMahon at quarterback. If he hadn't got hurt in 1984 the Bears might have been a dynasty. Thanks for seeing the wrong that Charles Martin did in 1986, as a Packers fan. Some Packers fans condone Martin's actions. After the cheap shot, several Packers players were high fiving him on the sidelines. I too have wondered why the Bears didn't go after Martin. Charles Martin should have faced criminal charges, and banned from the NFL. Side note Charles Martin went to high school where I've lived most of my life: Cherokee County, Georgia. He played football for Cherokee High School. It wad there he got the nickname: "Too Mean."
@SuperPrince1007
@SuperPrince1007 10 месяцев назад
@@spencerpalmer7118 I don't & am outraged over it especially any Packer Player high fiving that loser. You don't play football like that. Charles Martin would've gotten too meaned by Jack Lambert or Mean Joe Greene. Charles Martin was lucky Vincent Lombardi wasn't the coach of the Green Bay Packers then because he would've thrown him off the team right after the game. Once again, the Chicago Bears Defense & Team should be ashamed of themselves for not manning up and beating the shit out of him.

Problem on your end or youtube muted the audio....for the truth is they are the judge and jury when it comes to what is copyright infringement.....as utube will pick a video like this one to mute and yet they let 1800 like videos not be considered copyright infringement cuz each of the 1800 vintage videos posted on our webpage are all currently loaded to utube......as the fact remains that this video we at Ima Sportsphile loaded on utube has good audio

The 1984 Chicago Bears were not world champions. They lost to the 49ers in the playoffs. Their world championship season was 1985.

The Bears best years were 1984-88. They should've won more than one championship. The QB position was the glaring weakness. McMahon was just an average QB who happened to be on a great team
@haroldmccoy6748

@@jeremythompson9122 Outstanding 1985 Championship bears team , comparable in sheer dominance to any NFL /SB teams year in league history unquestionable ,,but they were more the recipient of a favorable opening which manifest itself in sports at spontaneous moments in which the apex predator is wounded or missing for a short frame of time and a secondary contempary can take advantage of the cherished opening and occupy the thrown for a limited period , untill the apex predator has recovered . The superior apex predators 49ers ,Washington who had to restore or implement various components in it's rosters , and Giants who had to devolope a Championship psychological grit, all three possessed superior coaches which was validated by the fact all three teams captured multiple SB titles after the bears 1985 Championship season ,and all defeated a bears team at least once " Washington twice " from 1986 to 1990 . Like the Houston Rockets capturing multiple titles untill Jordan returned ,the bears were essentially a by product of a team smartly taking advantage of a rare opportunity as oppose to them being a authentic multiple Championship caliber team . Nothing for that great bears SB Team nor it's loyal, ravenous , fan base to feel bad about ,that 85 bears team takes a back seat to no SB title winner in utter , sheer dominance, or intoxicating a league with it's erupting energy ,they were literally engulfing to a NFL national fan base to the point of becoming a cultural phenomenon that STILLS EXISTS 30 AFTERWARDS ,THATS INSANE ! But they weren't equipped to be a dynasty ,not with the better head coached , collective offensive talented apex predators waiting inthe wings to either recapture Washington,49ers ,or surge past Giants ,the bears who were more of a Joe Smokin Frazier persona ,tough , unrelenting ,greatness at two historically elite variables that covered up the limitations at the others ,rushing with Payton ,Great Pass Rush ,Line of scrimmage dominance vs most traditional run oriented teams . Multifaceted passing schemes , physical Defensive fronts that could match the bears offensive line ,forcing pediatrician QB's and WR's to determine the Bears fate was their achilles heel . They peaked at the correct moment in 1985 ,it was the only moment they could occupy the Championship chair .
