They started to gel in the second half of ‘83. They struggled out the gate, then Halas dies on Halloween. Whether out of spite or tribute (or maybe a little of both), the switch somehow gets flipped. They win 5 of the last 6 to finish at .500 (with Bob Thomas’s last second FG in the deep freeze to eliminate the Packers from playoff contention in the finale, which got Bart Starr fired). That served as a launching pad for ‘84, and we all know what happened in ‘85.
I've been a Cowboys Fan since I was 7. My Uncle from Frisco Texas sent me the entire Cowboys football uniform I think I wore it everyday just about. But I loved watching the Bear's in the eighties. My Budro loved and dreamed about the Bear's. So when the Bear's would played I'd go to his house. When my Cowboys played he come to my house. But honestly the Bear's had a great team then. McMahon the Fridge Walter Payton Mike Singletary and many many others making them probably one of the best teams in NFL History. Just ask the Rams or New England fans and other teams from that era.

100% agree. 85 gets all the attention, 86 gets all of the "what if" reflection but it really was the 84 team that at least should have made the SB. Would have been an interesting matchup against the Dolphins.
True. McMahon was injured a lot that season … you think the 49ers would have gotten as far with an injured joe montana? Nah. I 100% believe with a healthy #9 the bears were unbeatable by seasons end.
