I have never seen a person so happy and excited about what he did. He was a coach for almost ten years, and became a sports-caster for several decades. He truly changed everything about football. He even made the Madden franchise of video games and All-Madden. It is truly amazing how many things this man could do if he put his mind to it. We love you now and always will, Coach. I hope the afterlife is pleasing for such a great person.
Don't Weep For Me in Sorrow but in Joy. To have lived and loved anything or anyone or been loved by anything or someone then you were given life's highest reward, the Gift of Love, for to have loved and been loved is no greater achievement. Love is too abundant to count, immeasurably measurless in it's reach, too wise to comprehend and yet infinitely finite in each experience. I've lived to sip tea with her and eat with her. I've walked and ran with her and sometimes just sat with her. Love wept with me and I with She. We laughed and fought, sometimes parted but always returned. Love loved in every situation whether poor or rich. In our pain or pleasure, disappointments or surprises. Love was loyal even when forgotten, near of far I always felt her heart and She mine. Loved showed up at times as a stranger, other times a friend and every now and then ,she was the enemy that once was. A family member or pet even. I heard her voice in the woo of the morning dove or the purr of a kitten. She sang to me in the melody of a song or spoke to me in the refrain of a poem. She told me many tales of past present and future and I told Her mine. We loss together and won. Our shared suffering only strengthened the bond that tied us. We rose from our ashes like a Phoenix and our chains freed us from our pride and humbled us. Thank you Love for every gaze in your eyes, every kiss and embrace. I got to pass you by and breathe your aroma, hear your voice and taste the fruit of your love.I held you as a baby, maybe I was the baby held. We both gave each other life. If I say goodbye first to you or you to me, it won't matter for our love spans beyond the gap of death. Our Love In any amount is more than any tea cup of one lifetime could hold. My moment with you was an eternity and I am grateful. Don't weep for me in Sorrow but in Joy, for I have tasted Love. We passed in both the light and night of Life. - Steven F Gooden -
Really sad news. As a Steeler fan I fondly remember the wars with coach Madden's Raiders. He was football personified. He is now a legend. My condolences to Raider Nation. RIP coach.
Loved John Madden. You knew it was a big game if John Madden and Pat Summerall were calling the game. I've been watching the NFL playoffs in the 80's on RU-vid. They just brought you further into the game, welcoming you on in as you were entertained by the game and the commentators. My dad and I really bonded playing the Madden games in the early 90's, they were so much fun. The end of an Era. Thank you, Mr. Madden
I remember him as the head coach for the Raiders and winning Super Bowl 11. I remember him as a commentator and the Madden video game series is named after him. RIP John Madden. Thanks for all the great memories.
Rest easy john. Thank you for everything you everything you did. Next year's Thanksgiving games will hit so much harder. Im not even ready. NEXT YEAR JOHN GETS THE MADDEN COVER NO MATTER WHAT
Raider Nation has been through so much this year and to lose such a beloved member of our Nation hurt to the core. RIP Mr. Madden my thoughts and prayers to the family and friends, past players and all of Raider Nation.
As a Niners fan, I always remenber Madden praising and laughing gladly when Steve Young was jumping and running with joy in November 1994 after he finally beat the Cowboys. We all miss much Madden's style. RIP.
Haven't heard much about Madden in a few years since he left the broadcasting booth. All of the sudden there was a documentary about him Christmas day which I watched and enjoyed. He died "unexpected" 3 days later after the documentary aired. Wow. Rest in Peace my friend. You wil be missed.
I will remember John Madden as a video game icon. To me that is a great because I'm sure that when he started his career in football he never would have imagined he would have transcended in to video games. It is always a great thing when someone strives in something and then does something different and succeeds in that also. It's like when a music artist succeeds in acting. More power to them. I've never been a huge sports fan but I know how great and respected John is. I appreciate John Madden for extending himself to the media of video games and reaching out to me and other gamers the way he did. He's made me feel great when I had a good play and of course he made me feel ashamed when I botched the play. He had such an attitude that when I have played the Madden games I felt like he spoke right to me. Thank you for the memories John.
I barely ever watched football in my life, just to be honest with everyone, but I'll be damned if I couldn't spot his voice almost immediately. Definitely a broadcasting legend, such a presence
A very sad day yet we all will die. His coaching on Sundays were before my time. My memories of his broadcasting NFL games with his sidekick commentary continues to be unforgettable. His performance in movies again unforgettable. Mr. Madden - you will rest in peace just as you lived - Thank you
Just got the John Madden news tonight. These guys were a big part of my childhood. Marv Albert doing the NBA games like those Bulls vs Knicks games on NBC, or a Penguins Rangers game on National Hockey Night on ESPN with Gary Thorne, but nothing better than watching John and Pat on a sunny Sunday afternoon calling a Cowboys Niners at Candlestick. I’m a packers fan so it was a treat to watch him call the their games with Favre and White against other NFC Central/North teams. Nostalgia is most often positive when we look back, but there really was a certain innocence back then and consistency and slower pace, that we don’t have today… and John and Pat encapsulated that. John - most of us have never met you but thanks for all the great memories growing up on Sundays and Thanksgiving. That is something we will always have. RIP John!
I had recorded the special from this past weekend.."All Madden". I'm watching it as I write this and just saw the report that he had passed..ever since I was a kid watching football and all the games and broadcasts with Pat Summeral..so surreal...R.I.P to the legend..
Man. I played Madden 05 for literally a decade and every game he said something I had never heard! Wished I could've become a broadcaster and called a game with him and Al Michaels. RIP
The voices of John, along with Nick Sabol and NFL Films are memories I’ll absolutely cherish as I remember them as a 90’s teen!….R.I.P….BIG JOHN!!!!….😢💔🏈🏉🏉🏈🏉🎮🕹 #BOOM #POW
You are not a human if you don't live John Madden He coached my team to the top. I love the Raiders. There not my team anymore, but he is one of the greatest coaches who ever lived RIP John!!!
Heavy hearted tonight...every time a NFL great passes on, a piece of my childhood chips away...once my father passed on a few years back, I haven’t watched much ball, it’s hard without him. But he’s the reason why I even knew about a John Madden or a Gale Sayers, a Deacon Jones or a Vince Lombardi, legends before my time. Mr. Madden was known to me through all the great NFL Films footage over the years..his legendary coaching career, still best winning percentage for a coach (min. 100 games) then growing up hearing the broadcasts with the legendary Pat Summerall in the 90s..the thanksgiving games...his love for Brett Farve....alongside the video game that changed gaming as we knew it. I first played Madden ‘92...game changer for me. But Mr. Madden was always more than just a name of a video game, to me( and a lot others I’m sure). He was well respected, revered and loved by us all. Not to forget, he was a Raider at heart, the silver and black. I can hear the the Autumn Wind in my head now, gives me chills. That being said, I will miss him and wish mercy on his soul through his transition. Thank you Mr. John Madden for giving us so many great memories to look back on, Rest In Peace.
@@Gallagherfreak100 thank you..just stings every time I hear an old timer get their calling...and Coach Madden? Shoot, he WAS football, the NFL and all else in btwn, so it was sad to see him go.
Coach madden, thank you for all your years of entertainment through your broadcasting and your madden video games! You will be missed😇 thank you coach madden
RIP John Madden, you are very confident, the awesomeness man on earth with the quarterback of the football career throughout decades, training very hard in it'z mid timeline of the years, being the boss of the football player in all legends of time, always remember you are amazing in all of it'z use with your hardwork companion, rest well gentlemen, and enjoy your time in another world rest easily.🥺🙏🕊😢😞😣😖😩
The "Turducken" was created by him to recognize the multiple contributions from players to win on a Thanksgiving Day victory. He even modified it from his own creation of giving out a single turkey leg for one player. He was also a fan of big hits anywhere on the field, and we loved it.
John Madden was the greatest man in all of football. Not because he was a great player (he was). Not because he was a great coach (he was). Not because he was a great broadcaster (he was). Not because he was a great teacher (he was). Not because he was a great entertainer (he was). But because he was among the very best, at being a good human being. Thank you John Madden, for inspiring me. Thank you John Madden, for inspiring _the world._
I’m old enough to remember him as a great coach. When I first understood football he was coaching a team with iconic characters like Villapiano, Stabler, Hendricks and Atkinson. The broadcasters for those AFC West Sunday afternoon games were Charlie Jones and Curt Gowdy so Madden has been a part of my football life for 47 years. Amazing!
Loved listening to his sports radio broadcast during commute to work. I've never forgotten the time he went off topic and started talking about arugula. He said something like, "Can you believe arugula is now used in salads? I remember as a kid my mother having me pull them out of the garden cause they were weeds." 😂 RIH and enjoy the big football field in the sky.
I'll never forget the 1977 AFC divisional playoff game in Baltimore with the Colts against Madden's Raiders. I was home on my first leave from the USAF and was sure my Baltimore Colts were going all the way. Old Memorial Stadium (the Outdoor Insane Asylum) was rocking. A double overtime game still considered one of the most exciting and memorable games in professional football history. Baltimore got bit by the "Snake" that day. Damn that Ghost to the Post. RIP John Madden, you were one of the greatest.
A great legend for the NFL. Familiar to all, beloved to anyone who respects the game and it's history. Rest in peace Mr. Madden. It has been a pleasure.
John Madden was the King of Pro Football... Raiders Nation and the rest of the world will never forget you . Rest in Peace Big Guy. You will be missed...
Oh my goodness......there are really no words, but I will try...... I just watched the documentary on TV that aired Christmas Day, and I feel so fortunate I was able to view it. Incredible man. Had a GREAT spirit, and what you saw is what you got with him. He had no false bravado, and was just genuine. LOVED all his commercials, broadcasting and all he contributed to the NFL. He made me want to watch football, although I understand very little about the game itself.
I don't think was another person who possessed his knowledge and understanding of the game. He wanted EVERYONE to understand the game, like he did. His ability to predict what play the offensive team was going to call, used to amaze me. There will never be another one like him. We have lost a true giant.
R.I. P John Madden. I grew up listening to his commentary with Pat Sumerall and later on with AL Michaels on Monday Night Football, before it went to ESPN. One of the best commentators in football. He will surely be missed.
To say John Madden is a LEGEND AND ICON WOULD BE A BIG UNDERSTATEMENT. Even those words would not be enough. 11 years as the Coach of the Oakland Raiders and still holds the record for highest winning percentage for 100 games. It's been over 40 years and that record still stands. He spent over 35 years as a broadcaster for all four networks: CBS. FOX, ABC, and finishing at NBC in 2009. He's called 10 or 11 SB's (Al Michaels will be calling his 10th or 11th SB in February on NBC) He's simply THE BEST: Coach, Broadcaster, Video Games. HE's set the STANDARD. You can say Madden is likely one of the four or five MOST INFLUENTIAL people in the NFL. He's there with Vince Lombardi, Former Commissioner Pete Rozelle, and Al Davis. You can also throw in George "Papa Bear" Halas. R.I.P. to one of the all time greats.
