Chris Berman, Tom Jackson, and Joe Theismann host ESPN NFL Primetime for 1996 Divisional Sunday, where the New England Patriots destroyed the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-3, while the Carolina Panthers beat Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and the Dallas Cowboys 26-17.
In their first home playoff game in 18 years, the Patriots blew out the Steelers 28-3 with 346 yards of total offense, while limiting the Steelers to 213.
The second-year Panthers held Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman to 165 passing yards and forced three interceptions en route to their first playoff win in team history. On offense, running back Anthony Johnson was their top performer with 104 rushing yards and a 9-yard reception.

16:58 Lamar Lathon's "DO YOU KNOW WHERE CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA IS NOW BABY!!!" Interview takes place. He really rubbed it in Barry Switzer's face. Hahahahaha.

I was there... sat in corner end zone where Martin scored his first T.D. First play to Glenn was on the other end, we lost him around 15 yards down the field. We had to rely on the crowd reaction. Overall the crowd was so loud... way louder than today.

Steelers were a bunch of cocky yappers all week before that game. Imagine trash-talking when Tomczak is your QB? Oof.

In 5 playoff games vs the patriots the steelers scored more then 17 points only once. And still lost by 14.

Pat Terrell making an interception- college football fans probably remember him for him knocking down a 2 point conversion in the 1988 Miami/Notre Dame game

The final playoff game for Barry Swizter, next year all hell would break loose going at 6-10. In the same week Michael Irvin and Erik Williams was in the papers with that sexual assault charge which was swept under the rug thanks to Jerry Jones. After Jimmy Johnson left, the Cowboys wasn't the same,no discipline and so much negativity they had to rely on Troy to keep things together and it was burning him out and thankfully after the Giants Week 17 loss Barry resigned and going into the 2000's the end of the Triplets era, very sad

Troy was mediocre when his team wasn't stacked to the brim. He uses Switzer as a scapegoat for his own poor play. Also blaming Switzer for off the field problems is lame. Irvin, Williams, Lett etc. where just becoming stars when Jimmy left. They were going to be off field issues regardless of their coach.

Great point. People forget Johnson was only good in Miami, never great. A better coach would have benched an increasingly ineffective Marino or traded him away for something. He never got them above what they’d been the previous five seasons.

I'll never forget as a 10 yr old how happy I was that the jags upset denver in Denver. No doubt, denver would have wiped the floor with my Patriots. Obviously it didn't matter when they got to the superbowl but it was still nice seeing them get there that year. This was the start of the modern patriots. Belichick was assistant coach of this team. And when he came back in 2000 most of the defense was still intact.

If the Cowboys won at RFK they’d only be 11-5, still no playoff bye, they’d have hosted Philly instead of the Vikings
