Sofi has completely ruined the discourse on this topic. All these are fine. Not every venue has to be a spaceship from 2100, especially in smaller markets
@Heath I totally agree, ever since SoFi stadium open up teams and organizations are desperate to build something similar to SoFi. Me personally i prefer the outdoor stadiums, it’s more of football vibe then playing in a nice dome stadium.
@The Don Jacksonville is not LOS ANGELES. I expect the entertainment capital of the world to have a flashy stadium. We don't need 32 of them and smaller markets shouldn't be expected to build a multi billion dollar venue every 20 years just to keep a team that only plays 8-9 home games a year
No Tampa or Cincinnati? Tampa is a carbon copy of Nissan Stadium but with a pirate ship. Cincinnati is a dump. Jacksonville and Pittsburgh are great stadiums. I've been to both and enjoyed them.
Ngl this is an L take, I can tell you didn’t even do research cuz Jacksonville had a Super Bowl in 2005, a lot goes into new stadiums and renovations, also plans are underway to build a canopy over TIAA Bank Field, it the the same firm that renovated Hard Rock stadium.
The City of Cleveland built First Energy Stadium; the State of Ohio isn’t going to fork over billions. Have you actually seen events in any of the Stadiums you’re ripping? Who is going to pay for all these new stadiums? Given any thought to that?
Huh? Jacksonville hosted Superbowl XXXIX between the Eagles and the Patriots. The stadium is only half the issue in Jacksonville. The other issue is the accommodations. The last time Jacksonville hosted a Superbowl, they had to bring in river boats to accommodate fans, because they ran out of hotel rooms. So, the NFL stated right after that Superbowl, that Jacksonville won't host another superbowl until they have the proper accommodations.
Yeah the NFL couldn’t give less of a fuck what the actual stadium is like. If they did they wouldn’t keep having super bowls in New Orleans. The NFL only cares about the surrounding area and how good the area actually is at hosting a Super Bowl. Which New Orleans is basically perfect for.
Jacksonville did host Super Bowl 39. It hasn’t hosted a Super Bowl since not so much because of the stadium but because Jacksonville doesn’t have the hotel capacity
Sorry but being bland is a terrible reason to build a new stadium. Having been to TIAA when I lived in Jacksonville, I actually enjoyed the small upper deck...it was an oddly intimate experience. The best part is that with it being a geographically large city, there were lots of places to park and ride to the game rather than try to find limited parking. Not winning any awards, but sufficient for the Jaguars purposes.
If anything, I'd place a bet on a roof for metlife. It was built with a structure to support a roof and the insides of Metlife are some of the best, its just the color of the bowl and lack of a roof I'm a Jet fan and every game I have ever been to at metlife has been either rain or below 30 degrees 🤣
Jacksonville did host a Super Bowl it was back in 2005 they actually needed to have cruise ships serve as hotels because Jacksonville didn’t have enough hotel rooms
11:44 If I had to remove part of the upper deck seating, I would choose Sections 321-331. Those seats should be replaced by an observation deck, to let fans get more natural light in the south upper end zone during NFL games in the winter. And PLEASE replace the gray seats with seats with a beautiful rainbow, from end zone to end zone. It will make MetLife Stadium look much better if it all happens. I am hoping they do it by the 2027 NFL season because they are required to wait until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup to even think about renovating the stadium.
I love how all of a sudden it's become normal to change stadiums every 20 years. Unless it's fedexfield like I wouldn't mind keeping them for another decade before changing.
Jax hosted in 2005 and it was amateur hour by most accounts. MetLife was obsolete from day 1. You should explore the compromises and cost issues. Nothing like exposed concrete everywhere and general blandness.
Eventhought I never been to FedEx Field in Landover Maryland, I just find out that it was awful, outdated and bland. Built in between Washington DC and Baltimore by the previous Washington Football Team owner for unnecessary reason. It's dull and too many seats. It needs to be replaced very soon!
Panthers fan here. Our stadium absolutely SUCKS. It is incredibly outdated, and feels like a generic cookie-cutter stadium in every way. Hopefully we can get rid of it at some point soon... Also, as a FYI - you did miss the fact that the MLS team plays here, also - so it is not as dormant as it used to be, at least.
They are currently doing renovations to be completed this year at Gillette Stadium, which opened in 2002. To me, it's hard to believe that they see need in renovating it but it is 20 years old which seems relatively young to me but I understand it's not. Well I hope it looks good when it's done.
Heinz Field (or whatever it's new name is), is considered to be a really nice stadium and you are complaining about it being obsolete because of the seats color? Yeah right, let's spend a billion dollars so we can change something that represents our team and that nobody sees on GameDay because fans are seating on it!!!
I mean.. if you think TIAA Bank Field is bad then you need some help. you may think its boring but there is nothing wrong with it. *Shakes Keys* maybe that will help you..
bro, the jags stadium is literally just as nice as miami's and tampas. and the stadium is also getting renovated next year. we had a super bowl as well
If the stadium holds people, and people show up, that stadium isn't obsolete. An old car that runs doesn't magically become obsolete because new cars are built. It becomes obsolete when it quits functioning... But I get what you intended to mean, and the NY stadium is the most unimaginative stadium you could possibly build for that kind of money.
TIAA Bank Field is actually the Gator Bowl with some upgrades to make it feasible for the NFL 30 years ago. The only significant renovations done to Bank of America Stadium was the ability to configure it for soccer. FirstEnergy Stadium is built on the same site where old Cleveland Municipal Stadium once stood. MetLife Stadium does have its issues but it did host a Super Bowl.
Jacksonville doesn’t have a bad stadium. It’s just the FACT that their city can’t take the capacity of the excess crowds Super Bowls bring to cities. Make sure when doing videos to bring facts to back up your opinions
10:44 - When the Pitt Panthers are playing, I totally agree with you about the mustard-colored seating. The Steelers, not so much because despite some no-shows, the have sold-out every home game since Heinz Field opened. If memory serves me right, the Steelers have sold-out every home game since 1972 (when they played at Three Rivers Stadium).
Aloha Stadium was demolished for MULTIPLE reasons. A) it was old and not kept up B) Hawaii is an ISLAND. Has terrible water/rust problems. The stadium not only was crumbling from the INTERIOR but also from the EXTERIOR where they literally had to condemn it.
TIAA Bank Field is not as small or obsolete as you think. I personally been to a game in 2004 before the pools and cabanas and the super huge HD videoboards and had a good experience. I admit that what the stadium might have lacked in design features, they made up for it in charm and fan experience. Compared to Aloha Stadium, its night and day. They did host a Super Bowl in 2005 (Super Bowl XXXIX). And they are currently working with an design firm for renovations even as we speak. The plan was NEVER voted down and negotiations haven't even started yet. I know that plans for TIAA Bank Field include a new shade roof and a lot of new features along with a totally new design. So we gotta get our facts straight. TIAA Bank Field is not that bad...period.
TIAA Bank Field did host a Super Bowl but the people who attended it said it was a horrible experience. That's why that stadium hasn't even been considered for a Super Bowl bid since then.
The issue with Jacksonville and the Super Bowl was not with the stadium. The issue was more of the amenities in and around the city (mainly lack of hotel rooms).
While we're being honest, I've never seen anything special about Raymond James Stadium. The fact that they hosted a Super Bowl is crazy to me. Stadium is meh, area is around the stadium is gross looking and pretty residential. Maybe a hot take, but just a thought.
Living up in Ohio from December 2018 to August 2022 only being in First Energy Stadium in Cleveland one time with my friends Joey who is a diehard Browns fan. Took him we our first CONCACAF GoldCup back in June 2019 for the was a amazing experience that I’ll never forget.
Not on you but people need to stop with calling something obsolete just because there’s parking lots instead of being surrounded by nightlife or an architect doesn’t like the design. Washington or a horror show that desperately needs replacement and Tennessee seems to be rough shape but not as bad as Washington and Carolina needs some kind of shade or new stadium the rest are fine for the next 20-25 years.
I know this’ll happen sometime, but I’m not looking forward to the day Gillette is on this list. I’d want to be at the last game whenever in probably the 2030s
The renovations are going to probably push it into the 2050s. The Kraft family doesn’t want to build again, and I have a feeling that it’s going to be treated similar to a place like yankee stadium.
Jacksonville and Pittsburgh are really good stadiums as they look pretty nice and Pittsburgh can become iconic with age. It's not really bland at all it has that old school field to it where it feels like a community stadium. I don't think Pittsburgh needs to rebuild it as it's in a great spot by the river too and gorgeous skyline like PNC Park for the Pirates. Jacksonville looks pretty cool and it looks just as good as Tampa's and I think it can be kept up for another 10 years, it may need a roof stadium at some point. MetLife Stadium might be the worst and most obselete stadium that was built in the 21st century so far as it's just as bland and bad as the first Giants Stadium. The New York teams overall need to get out of Jersey and get their stadiums built back in the city. The Jets should revisit West Side Stadium and actually build it this time, or built a stadium on Belmont Park where the Islanders new arena UBS Arena plays. Charlotte needs to a rebuild badly, I'm 50/50 on the Browns, I'm a dome guy, but I prefer them playing outdoors. I'm surprised you didn't include Seattle and San Francisco on this list. Lumen Field in Seattle is ugly and cold, they need to move back indoors in Seattle like a new version of the Kingdome. San Francisco Levi's Stadium is trash and they need to build the stadium in San Francisco not North San Jose. I think one stadium that I'm seriously worried about is the Bills Stadium that's gonna age pretty quick and need to be replaced again.
As someone who went to a Jags game last year, the stadium here in Jacksonville isn't really all that bad. And if he had done slightly more research, he would've known Jacksonville hosted a Super Bowl. The main problem with Jacksonville hosting the Super Bowl again is the lack of things to do within walking distance of the stadium and we need more hotels in the area. With that said Shad Khan, the Jags owner, is doing what he can to make the area around the stadium better.
What made sports & NFL so great in the 80's, 90's and even 00's was the home advantage of these stadiums. Ordinary people could afford to go watch their team every Sunday and therefore would create really loud, intimidating places to play. If we continue the trend of tear down & rebuild, not only will each stadium look almost identical, but it will price out the real football fans that made the NFL what it is today. Ex: I'm from Atlanta....when the Georgia Dome was sold out & rocking, it was a fun place to watch a game. The new Benz looks really cool, but for most Falcons games it's half empty. Seat licenses also don't help. I'd rather have the Old Meadowlands or Three Rivers where 80k crazy fans would make the stadium a fortress than a glorified corporate hangout at these new arenas
How is it that a stadium is considered obsolete after only 25 years or so? The buildings are still usable and should not be compared to the latest and greatest to determine their state.
11:00 , the concourse of Heinz is so unique , look up the fedex great hall , the entire ground is painted like a football field on the ground w yard markers etc , and the entire concourse has the huge lomabardies with the real ones inside of the huge statue and then there is like a musem of game used stuff all the way around it , the concourse of the stadium has the most charcter of any stadium ive ever been to
Depressed Ginger, while I do like your videos, and will continue to watch them for the time being, I do not understand why you can’t do a little more research. You clearly stated that Jacksonville has never hosted a Super Bowl.. well, they actually have.. Super Bowl XXXIX was held at TIAA Bank Field on February 6, 2005, a game in which the Patriots defeated the Eagles!! Another inaccuracy you stated was that Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh opened in the “late 90’s”.. FALSE! Acrisure opened in August of 2001.
TIAA is def old but the renovations made to it are great. Not to mention it gets great crowds and it’s not small, holds 68k which is average for the NFL, it’s the biggest stadium by max capacity in Florida at 82,000. Theres far worse stadiums than it, like Soldier field for example
Tiaa is one of the largest stadiums in the league expandable to 80k, Cities generally dont nor they shouldnt have to replace stadiums every 30 years. For 90% of the people that go amenities dont matter. The Browns just said theyre prob going to rennovate. Really about half the teams in the league with outdoor stadiums generally all are pretty similar Phi/Bal/Cin/Chi/Cle/Jax/Car/NE/TB/Den/Pit you can argue some of the atmospheres are different/better than others but they all were built in the same period with similar features and I wouldn’t say any one is vastly superior to another… People rave about Pit but honestly between the lack of escalators, the swaying of the upper deck, and the small scoreboards, it really felt cheaply built, only thing nice about it was the view. They expanded the seats in the end-zone there in front of the scoreboard that was the expansion that took place, before there were only like 5 rows behind the endzone.
I do not see the Steelers building another stadium for 30 years. Part of the problem is space to put it. The Rooney s will not take the Steelers outta dahntahn. You won’t see a suburban stadium. I agree with you the stadium is crappy but not the worst. The location of the stadium rocks and the views from inside to outside are pretty nice. But the stadium itself was done on a major budget. When the Bills move, the Steelers will likely have the cheapest stadium in the NFL. Maybe fedex field and TIAA bank stadium are cheaper but acrisure is still very cheap. PNC park on the other hand is pretty cheap but they did everything else to a T and it’s the best park in the MLB. You can get away with a cheaper park in baseball but not in ultra rich football.
Jacksonville did host a Super Bowl but that is the only one they will ever host due to the severe lack of hotel rooms in the area. The seats are colored that way in Pittsburgh because yellow and black are the team colors.
I went to Att last year . It's looking a bit worn and drab. It looks like an outdated kitchen but like most stadiums in the USA, it's fine for what it is.
Acrisure Stadium is fine. Obviously you have not been inside the stadium. I hate watching dome games. Talk about bland and uninspired venues. Who cares if you stadium has a 300’ scoreboard. Acrisure Stadium has the game day feel. Playing outside in nature’s elements with 70K Terrible Towels twirling in the snow. You can’t beat that. That’s football.
Jacksonville hosted the Super Bowl between the Patriots and the Eagles in 2005. However, the city of Jacksonville lacked accommodations where cruise ships were for hotels.
Not every football stadium has to host more than just football or Concerts. Cause most indoor stadiums suck if you don’t live in a cold state. It takes away alot
The Jacksonville stadium in my point of view was a major renovation of the Gator Bowl where stadiums in 2023 built with open concourses, luxury suites, and no obstructed seating. The Khan family can build a new stadium, buy if they will.
Great show. Good report about First Energy in Cleveland. Been there for many a Browns game. And never had a good experience there. Been to Pittspuke stadium a few times and sort of liked it. Jacksonville, where I winter is a joke as well.
2005 super bowl between the Patriots and Eagles was at the Jacksonville stadium. Prince play purple Rain and they brought in cruise ships to fill in the gap of hotel rooms in Jacksonville that stadium existed before the Jaguars. The top deck was saved but I believe the bottom deck was demolished and rebuilt doubt there's any interest in leaving the stadium because it's the right size for that marketplace, the stadium in Charlotte looks boring on TV, never been there but again the main goal is to get people to go to the games and I'm not sure what the attendance is for Charlotte games. The soccer team also plays there and they could easily do the same thing in Charlotte that they did in Miami while putting her canopy or roof over the seating, the Steelers are never leaving that stadium. It's perfect size for that market, MetLife stadium is not going to be replaced for a long time. It's comfortable. The concourses are big. There is ample amount of boxes and all the things teams need to generate revenue and both the Giants and jets have an escape clause. If either team wants to go, it was also an expensive stadium to build at the time over a billion dollars when stadiums like Heinz Field or the ones in Charlotte and Jacksonville were less than half to 75% to build compared to MetLife stadium, if Cleveland builds another stadium when they have a perfectly good one, then the Browns deserve to lose if they want a hose final fours they have a basketball arena there already
