Ref finishes: This is #45's first unsportsmanlike foul toward potential disqualification. Collinsworth: Yeah, the league is going to look at that play. He's looking at probably a $25,000 fine at least for killing another player. Tirico: Come on, why can't they be allowed to *play the game anymore*? Terry McCaullie: Yeah, that's a good call by the official to see that holding by 21 while he's being murdered. He was grabbing at 45's head and neck area and the league is trying to prevent head or neck injuries when their players murder each other. It would have been really easy to enforce the 15 yards for beating a player to a bloody pulp. Collinsworth: You know if Patrick Mahomes killed someone, I'd still defend him!
It's one of the most stupid flags you can get. There are videos on RU-vid filled with just the announcements of the refs of this one. Sometimes you can almost see the ref smile because of how stupid this one sounds.
B.J. Finney. I went to school with that guy, lol. Dude grew up the biggest Steelers fan, in Kansas. played a K-State. Awesome to see him accomplish his dream, even though he is already retired.
That fact that Tomlin didn't get flagged for standing on the field right in front of a returner with a clear path to the endzone is insane and always one of the most irritating things I have ever seen in football, I wasn't even a fan of either team in that situation, but I was as irritated as the Baltimore fans probably were
I would've loved it if the return man had run him over. He would've had to have seen him from decently far out, but Tomlin stepped onto the field and by all means would've been fair game to truck. He had it coming, too.
Seriously. I don’t have strong feelings for either team, but standing on the field of play in hopes of impeding the opposing team is just childish. If you’re that upset about losing then step it up and coach better.
Yeah I was just thinking the same. How does that excuse that! Dude could have snapped his neck or paralyzed him. Yeah I understand you gotta do what you gotta do but not doing that!
I have a suspicion that it was going to happen had he continued his diatribe against the side judge...the other ref and his teammates dragged him away just in time. Honestly, though, it would've been the call of the side judge to give him the second unsportsmanlike depending on what Sherman said...all I can figure is that he somehow kept it professional and didn't dip into personal.
"Do what you have to do I guess" Yes, he almost snapped another man's neck by grabbing their facemask, but at least they didn't score! Way to condone that, Chris.
Well, there is a rule ("Palpably Unfair Act") that allows the refree to impose whatever penalty he feels is appropriate in extreme cases. I've never heard of it being used, but it does exist. The rules should be revised to include something along the lines of "if any of the following penalties occur on a play in which, in the judgment of refree, the act that caused the penalty is the sole reason that a score did not occur is a palpably unfair act. The penalty is ejection of the offending player and the score is awarded".
The chuck clark one reminds me of playing madden as a kid on rookie and you couldn’t get called for offsides so you could just take a defender and stand next to the QB before he hiked it lol
There should be some sort of disqualification for egregious facemasks. Disqualification for the remainder of the quarter plus the next full quarter would be about right. A "flagrant facemask" penalty, for where the victims head and neck were violently jerked and twisted in a way that could cause injury. Defining the standard for flagrant will take some work. Will need to be video-reviewable to determine if it meets standard for "flagrant", because it's too much to ask of human refs to make that judgment in real time.
@@jdaniels1313 Oh plz, stop trying to baby the sport, minus will make it 2 hand touch football, these football players know what they sign up for and what the risk are.
@@jonmcclain662 Your parents must be so proud, you fulfilled your purpose in life of lobbing lame middle school insults at other people on the Internet!
@@jdaniels1313 I don't know what you mean, my parents taught me not to cheat and taught me integrity. When I see clear fixing in the game, I'm going to speak against it like so many right now.
2:49 that one was 100% intentional. You can see the coach's eyes looking back over his shoulder. and he steps out 'onto' the field in his 'attempt to get out of the way' rather than moving his left food first to move 'away' from the field.
he was facing the other way and thats how the body moves. You put your weight on one foot to lift the other foot and move the other direction. He just planted his foot to try to get out of the way.
Tomlin admitted to watching the Jumbotron and has tried to say he thought Jones was running up the other sideline. Tomlin is garbage. He has more wins but still is a piece of garbage.
He was asked about that play in an interview and Tomlin said he was looking at the jumbo screen and thought that Jacoby Jones was running down the opposite sideline. Like bruh you can’t see your entire white and yellow team standing on the sideline? And also in that one replay he is clearly not looking at the jumbo screen
Those were some crazy games, I saw several of them live. I don't know how many weren't injured by the facemask plays, it's a good thing they were conditioned and in shape individuals!
I think an odd one is the Ravens punt formation and they did twice that I remember 1) SB against the San Fran and 2) regular season against the bengals. Towards the end of the game, but basically, the punting teams purposely holds as much as the cany for as long as they can while the punter runs around killing the clock.
They did later change the rules to allow game time to be restored if a team committed multiple penalties in one play to manipulate or run out the clock, in response to those Ravens plays.
In the Superbowl, Matt Hasselbeck (QB) throws a pick and tackles the defenseman that caught it. The penalty? Against Hasselbeck - blocking below the waist. While making a tackle!
Not gonna lie, the clips of a facemask getting called against the Lions (of course it was green bay) and the next clips was a non called facemask that the Lions was also involved in was funny
Well, 2 things: 1) at live speed there's not 1 ref on the planet who wouldn't call that a facemask, you have to take it down to slo-mo before you get to ok technically it's really enough to be a facemask 2) taking a guy down by the shoulder like that is a textbook horsecollar as the rule is written, so different penalty, but ultimately still a 15 yarder that put the ball at the same spot and gives an untimed down.
There was one game I was listening to on WestWoodOne Sunday Doubleheaders in the 200xs where the call was Pass interference, defense, but the pass interference was in the form of a personal foul, so it was enforced fifteen yards from the downfield spot.
That face mask penalty on Detroit 98 enabled Aaron Rodgers to gun a 61-yard strike to Richard Rodgers for the walk-off touchdown (which was then followed by a 35-yard-plus strike to Janis to tie a playoff game Green Bay lost in overtime largely via Larry Fitzgerald), while the triple-penalty on Richard Sherman was the same game where Sherman hit Titans QB Marcus Mariota late.
The one with Rodgers being brought down (after the double backwards passes) shows that...there was only incidental facemask contact, but it still affected the play. What got me about that one was the announcers wondering why a facemask penalty was called...the chinstrap of the helmet doesn't normally work its way up over the mouth without help, guys...
I don't believe the NFL is scripted or rigged. But the 3 free extra plays for the Raiders makes me question that, and I'm a Bears fan, so I have no horse in that race.
Why would it make you question that, the Chiefs secondary was holding as much as they could to win the game. I say this as a lifelong Chiefs fan who was pretty upset when I saw this game. But at the same time, they were penalties, so they needed to be called.
@@jimmypatterson9789my take is that the NFL isn’t rigged, but the that that it’s an open question to plenty of people says a lot about the quality of the officiating
The kicker face mask I can let go. Those players can barely tackle so expecting them to be top tacklers is overkill. But the DBs and other positions should be fine and those bad enough ejected.
I know im late but I dunno how somebody hasn't had their neck broken by somebody grabbing their face mask yet. Like a full grown athlete using his power and twisting your head like that while your'e trapped in a helmet lol.
I remember watching the Motown Miracle live after being missing for the whole second half. Easy to forget that Detroit was dominating that game at halftime and Green Bay didn't have the lead until the final play. They almost didn't let me back in the room.
Haven’t watched it yet, but I hope you added the holding penalty called on the raiders on a field goal. Btw raiders were defending, aswell as no hold in sight 😭
by rule, if there is a penalty by each team, no matter how many more 1 team has than the other, the play is canceled and is replayed, and only 1 penalty can be accepted if multiple occur by only 1 team, and usually the most beneficial, yards wise or downs wise, is picked by the coach
Seeing as players have received unsportsmanlike penalties for tossing the ball at refs, I think he knew that would've been the game for him. That said, both the interference call and the holding call were valid and the unsportsmanlike came when he decided to remove his helmet (which is part of the rules). The side judge was the one who actually allowed him to stay in the game...had the judge decided the commentary got too personal, he was within his rights to ring him up on another unsportsmanlike and disqualify him.
Lifelong fan of American football from England here. Given the possible serious injury from holding the face mask i amazed the helmet not designed so the face mask pops out when pulled.
I don't think it's feasible to design the face mask to both (a) pop out when pulled and (b) reliably stay in place when hit/pushed. Face masks, especially for linemen, take a decent amount of contact, and you don't want it to pop off and leave the player's face unprotected (after all, that's the point of having the face mask in the first place). As is, the face mask is actually screwed onto the helmet, to make it very unlikely to come off accidentally (but still changeable in the locker room; there are several different face mask designs, and different players have different preferences).
@@ryanstejskal1506 You could be right. However I interested to know if any tests have ever been done? I also suggest that if a face mask is developed to detach by being pulled and able to withstand significant impact then it gives added deterent for the foul in the first place.
It may also have to do with leaving fewer hazards on the field of play. Say a facemask pops off apropos of nothing (say a manufacturing issue) at the very start of a play...that means that the play would have to immediately stop and either be repeated or penalized and repeated.
Love white grabbing the sheet. My favorite moments are when defenders try to stand in an offensive huddle. Love those little funny moments in a violent sport
Why not do that Your opponent slipped up n the playsheet flues into your hands Let me read that real quick I will make sure to send it back after I'm done learning here
I wish i could find video of it, but i believe it was Ravens @ Washington maybe 2009 give or take. But Washington was down at Goal to Go inside the 5 and the Ravens kept stopping them. Every time it got to 3rd down the Ravens would commit another penalty and Washington would get a new fresh set of downs. Washington must have had 8 or so attempts to push the ball in from just a yard out and each time Baltimore stopped them dead at the line of scrimmage. Finally on like the 9th attempt that resulted in a clean 4th down either Kelly Gregg or Haloti Ngata turned around to the Washington end zone stands and flipped the fans the middle finger in triumph. Ravens got ANOTHER flag and 1 play later Washington finally pushed it in for a touchdown lol.
