in this video you'll see how the ai behave when they're left on the void, or just behind the player in general #needforspeed #nfs #underground2 #nfsunderground #nfsunderground2
@@yod7934 in url races especially the first ones there is a bugged racing line for ai Causing them hit the wall I have at least a glitch like that Because of the game was from internet
@@tsuol7296 i tried using only miata in career mode once. Its so good when its max upgrade. It can handle tight corner easily and has high acceleration speed too. But the top speed sucks
@@neonwattled I even like the MX5, but playing with it at maximum performance is not for everyone, it skids very easily, anyone who plays in difficult mode aiming for reputation points needs to adjust the grip and also the transmission to make it reach the last gear with less difficulty. I recommend the RX8 without a shadow of a doubt, it is better than the MX5 in practically everything...
They rubberband when you make mistakes. You shouldn't be punished, when you play game well, but if you crash, it's an opportunity for an AI to get ahead. You're purposefully hitting a wall during a wallride and AI thinks it's time to act.
or it's just AI expects you to slow down for the turns but you didn't, so you're doing 200% the speed they expected, so now they have to get to 200% speed themselves
This cant be purposfully coded, can it?? Could make sense, but will it? If you crash you can see the AI getting ahead and not going any faster than you are
Well, i'm playing right now with a g29. I did a perfect lap full throttle without any crashes or wallride and they rubberbended the same way. Is just impossible to leave the bots behind, they always catch up some time
the AI rubberband really depends on your speed. I remember using a trainer to have fun in the game, using instant speed I could see flying AI cars and over 1k km/h in the status in the end of the race lol
One thing that I noticed about UG1 and UG2 is when they are in front of you, you have to TAP them to stop them using this "snapped-on" handling. After they stop using snapped physics, they would use the normal physics we use, and they suck at driving with player physics.
@@mars..1.1 Oh it’s hard, I think the devs knew that people would catch on so they made them feint one direction and then miraculously move to the other side while sustaining mach 10. But if ya keep your mirror on em while they’re coming up and keep out of traffic it’s easier to catch them
I still love some people saying the AI isn't broken and "just drive better". There's no hurt in agreeing that the catch-up system in the game is absolutely borked.
@@ninjaskillzyt Yeah, in fact rubberband is a huge meme in NFS circles for a reason (besides ProStreet because that game doesn't have it and unfortunately is piss easy). Just look at people still complaining about certain Blacklist racers or the UG1 rubberbanding (Kurt's Killer Ride my beloathed).
As a kid I couldn't beat a game, but today you answered my question why. I didn't knew wallriding was boosting rubberbanding, and I was doing it all the time. Thank you.
I think the reason for the AI rubberbanding massively if you wall ride, is that there's probably code in the game to make the AIs slightly faster when you hit the wall, making the players drive safe and not crash often Wallriding is hitting like 10 walls each corner to auto steer the car, and doing so makes the AI go berserk
Actually They Made A Script Like Comparing The Current Of Distance And Speed The AI To Other AI Plus With The Player Speed Devided The Current Game Time Since The Start Of The Race + Player Time Elapsed And Compare It To The Game Previous Finish Time Record If You Didn't Get On Time Or You're Elapsed Time Is Less Than The Required Finishing Time Then AI Will Add X Linear Value In Between Value Of Time And Distance And Speed Of You Or AI To AI Basically The AI Is Scripted You Need To Beat The Time To Win Against The AI So Don't Worry About The AI Worry About The Time
Sometimes your car could get faster than those AI, or maybe AI gets stuck in whatever part of the map, if the game already unloads the chunk where the AI is, since it has no collision now, AI would just follow common AI paths(already set by developer to prevent crash or malfunction, especially in circuit).
I think the most amazing thing about this ridiculous stuff "behind the scenes" is how you still have a feeling they are driving properly when they are near you.. it's only when you look at the map that you see some super weird stuff happening during normal gameplay.
I thought this just would me cool information to know. Turn on ur speedometer and gauge. Then activate the ai mode. When you click it, the little gauge just disappears and notice that when the ai drives it handles really well. The moment that the ai mode crashes into a wall the gauge appears back and the car doesn’t have super grip anymore. However with the actually ai afterwards the gauge will disappear again which will allow them to rubberband again. That gauge being gone is what makes them bounce up and down and glitch and all that rubberbanding and stuff. You more than likely can find more than what I know. I just thought I’ll help.
Very interesting! Loved the video! The AI has similar behaviors to Need for Speed Undercover (Wii/PS2). It turns out that there is a crazy bug that makes it affect cops there and causes them to pretty much instant accelerate, fly anf do insane stuff. I believe it uses Undrrground's rubberbanding and has changes to it. I made a video about it too
watched your video on rubberbanding A.I in ps2 nfs UC, it's one hell of a fuckfest since I haven't see many documentaries or videos about it aside from kuru's gameplay on it
In SRS Street racing syndicate there was no rubber banding if i recall correctly. If you took the fastest car to the first race you could out lap the ai.
In my experience Underground 1 rubberband is more frequent but way less aggressive than the one from Underground 2, on UG2 sometimes the opponent's pass you at light speed, it's really fun yo see, I have a recording of it happening to me on a drag race at the very end and I ended up on 2nd place just because of the insane rubberband
What the first impression of U2 AI you get is that they going faster when they re behind you and slower when ahead. And this just looks rediculous like they are tied with you and you cant rid of them however fast you re going. This actually makes no sence of that performance level after a race which depends on the gap between you and your rivals because you just cant make it.
This is why I have to switch to easy mode by stage 4. I played on hard mode and even if I am slow, they still rubberband insanely, making the game almost unbeatable for me.
Honestly from what I’ve seen the AI just rocket around tight corners no matter where they are relative to you. is pretty funny on that URL race where they magnet to the inside, then fling into the outside wall at mach 10
BROOOOOO That is SO AWESOME HADHHSDHAH The MOST INSANE Rubberbanding I ever seen happens if you run the oval ring track thats the highway, with the SUV's, I modded the suv to have 1000+ hp's and after I get away from them, they start to float or some shit like that, I've barely seen it looking back while playing. Awesome to know that it works on replays, sadly you cannot save them... If we could, I CANT IMAGINE HOW MUCH weird stuff would appear on the internet haha
Try and find it for pc, I have a laptop from 2015 that can run underground 2 at full specs and it’s not even a gaming laptop. The game looks incredible on pc!
@@Theweouthereforrealclub-I still have the PS2 disc played it about a year ago but I would love to play it on PC where you can actually upscale the game and probably do fun modding stuff!
I’ve been replaying this game and I love these kinds of videos of dissecting a game. Rubber banding is absolutely ridiculous in this game. Even myself playing the game I was rubber banding.😂
The worst rubber band ive seen on one of these games was video where a guy was holding down first solidly about to finish, then he gets absolutely chopped by a honda civic literally going about 1000kmh it was so fuvking stupid lol
Interesting to actually see it. It was obvious they were doing shady stuff. Apart from mysteriously catching up to you, you could see their arrows un the mini map going like a heat seeking missile. Even with all that I was able to complete both UG1 and 2 on release on whatever is the default difficulty, without patches or anything, great games
That's why it's difficult, they keep going like a rocket, and it's practically impossible to get 300 reputation, since they go like crazy and never stop overtaking us.
Black Box also made Hot Pursuit 2, from 2002, which exhibits some similarly outrageous rubberbanding and behavior as well. One of the most egregious happened to me a few years ago: I was doing an 8 lap endurance series at Palm Springs and despite me being about 50-ish seconds ahead of P2 when I was on lap7, the P2 AI somehow teleported AHEAD OF ME INSTANTLY by about 30 seconds the very instant I crossed a split-time/checkpoint barrier -- not that the AI _traveled so quickly_ that they "teleported" ahead of me, I mean the game flat-out placed their car so far ahead that catching up would've been impossible with the rubberband still activated. I haven't had that happen since, but the AI will sometimes hit walls so hard due to the rubberband that they get catapulted about 50 feet or higher in the air. Their AI code was bonkers lol
I've developped a very curious but effective trick to counter the rubberband. There's little to none advantages to go all in for your speed against rubberband, since no matter how fast your ride is, they'll always catch up. So instead of working hard, you gotta work smart. I purposely go slower (being as fast as a stock car's power) to keep my average speed not too low, but also not too high. Without hiting anything of course so I don't trigger the “ rubberband punishment. “ For NFS Most Wanted 2005 I use this trick for the hardest AI races and especially most boss fights. And it seems to work surprisingly well! Basically just make sure your speed varies between 175 and 200 km/h, no matter how fast you could go. I know it's tempting to go faster.Especially at the start, since i've tested it multiple times. At the start, they'll get a big chunk ahead of you. So much that you'd think that you'll never catch them up. But eventually, they seem to go slower and make very stupid mistakes on purpose, so you can get closer to them again, but still behind them. That's where the fun part kicks in: At the final lap (or 75%) of the race, you go all in on the gas and get a huge distance ahead of them, surprising the AI. (Since they still adapted to your average speed of 200-220 km/h most of the race. When the AI start rubberbanding because of your sudden speed increase, it's already too late for them, since you'll be hopefully close to the finish line and winning with a few seconds to spare. Tryhard is not the way to go against Rubberbanding AI. You gotta outsmart the system to have an easier time. But Underground does have a difficulty system the Most Wanted doesn't. So I don't know if that trick would work, as they're maybe not using the same code.
as for ug1 and ug2, i have my own trick which is to "tap" them. Doing so will temporarily "disable" their rubberband, meaning that they will understeer to the wall when entering a turn. Such trick sadly won't work in mw since they seem to completely change the system
Some of the times the Ai can abuse the rubber banding for example if your in stage 5 doing the airport URLs the Ai is in front and they will sometimes rubber band like crazy
When you use cheats and make the rubber band tighten up even more and snap it gets even more ridiculous. I still remember using a speed trainer as a kid and seeing the terrifying sight of the ai all follow me even faster than i was moving while doing 360's nonstop
Same goes with NFS Most Wanted. People say get gud but they don't admit that the AI is absolutely broken and you have to rely on luck and extreme precision to win certain races
nfsu1 has difference to trigger rubber band. Each circuit has determine spots when ai gets insane acceleration doesn't matter what speed you have. for examples xd Atlantica - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5lkPb4FvICs.html Port Royal - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZtcnAcIFhtE.html
Wallriding thing is true, one time i was playing on normal using the 240sx, i notice something strange, the a.i get's aggresive if you drive like that. Pro tip: don't wallride on any difficulty, you will be fine most of the time.
Well on my 1999 hp laptop thingy them bots don't go that wild and the ps2 also kinda calm until i use ps3 for it then u can notice a change in the difficulty
I'm always playing NFSU2, and nowadays I try to test myself (no wall ride, no NO², no touching cars, weak engine, etc). The game adapts the race difficulty to match your car (I normally use a Focus or a 240sx the entire game) and it's way more fun than flying a Skyline with nitrous above 300km/h on every straight. But the problem is, for some reason, the last lap of every race (or above the 75% completion for Sprint races) the AI cars suddenly reach speeds they never reached during the race, even with no nitrous, they fly past me even though I'm putting the best laptime lap after lap. I check the race status all the time and the AI's Max Speed is always equivalent to mine, so maybe they're just going through tight corners at 200km/h.
Well, at least in NFS Unbound Challenging difficult they drive like the player and don't have rubberbanding but they always miss any corner, especially if is an U turn
I bet it's even crazier in NFS Most Wanted (2005), at some point, i actually had some struggles when i was using a Porsche Carrera GT while the AI had some random cars...
I have seen cops in NFS World destroy everything when I was just parked there. That may be the reason why in a later update they removed the ability to start pursuits like in MW (2005) by getting spotted by a cop in free roam. Their AI is pretty stupid.
Even before i knew what rubberbanding was and why the AI would magically catch up to me i knew something was quite wrong with them lol. Now that i understand what the devs were doing its baffling to me they would make the majority of the game based on the reputation system if the AI was just gonna slingshot themselves everywhere instead of making them actually drive well
It isn't going to happen because of companies like toyota not allowing their cars to be in games like this anymore. Not to mention other licenses for things like the music would have to be renewed.
i literally be doing insanely hard turns and those turns NEED you to SLOW THE FUCK DOWN and those motherfuckers make those turns without even braking and then draft me and completely demolish me, the AI in this game is insane, they literally defy the laws of physics.
