Hey, just something to keep in your head, from personal experience. Had a patient who was on a continuous feed. Checked residual and it looked just like coffee grounds. This patient was very stable and had never had any issues like this so we were thinking “what the heck is going on here?” Suddenly we realized that the patient had just received a dose of ProStat protein liquid which is coffee colored, then it was mixed with the beige colored feed formula, and the result looked just like coffee grounds!
We have an infant that has a tube in which we change weekly. We mostly use bottles, but sometimes have to finish in the ng to get all necessary feeds. Do we have to worry about milk in ng tube going bad if every feed isn't refreshing milk.
