Jinwoo did not want to kill anyone, but he needed to follow the system. And even if he did not follow the system, it was either kill or be killed because the gang was ready to kill them at the first place. If you'd listen at the OST, Jinwoo was not enjoying a bit of this. He was sad. But he needed to do it. We all should remember that his goal at the first place is to get stronger so people would not take advantage of him anymore. It was sad - and remember, the system itself is still a mystery right now. We are not even sure if it is a system made for good or evil. Afterall, the system spawned after finishing that evil-ish double dungeon.

I don't know why but they changed the terminology of his Urgent Quest. The system in the manwha straight up tells him "Urgent Quest: Kill the Enemies" The word "defeat" leaves much to the imagination. In the manwha the system let's him know it's Kill or Be Killed

In RPG's, defeating enemies, means killing. It's a term that's been used for decades. People need to realize the system is using gaming terms. And the official translation of the manwha, said defeat. Not kill. Too many people using private translations as gospel.

Cruelty begets cruelty. These people have already killed countless others, it was bound to happen. They would eventually cross the wrong person, and attacking others while not thinking of being attacked is a naive mindset. Jin Woo already steeled his resolve for what he had to do. So in honest i really felt no sadness in what just happened here.

I like that in the last episode, they showed him get interrupted before accepting his reward

Yes, his first kill does mean a loss of innocence but the kind of reality presented by the universe of Solo Levelling almost necessitates ruthlessness if lines are crossed. Fairness favours the strong and only them, and good natures are rewarded with suffering. IMHO, all the system did was provide Jinwoo the tools to level the playing field.

The reason he had a "full restore" was because when he was opening the reward package from his daily regiment last episode, he was interrupted by the captain introducing himself. Therefore, it was still able to be claimed.

One thing to remember -- justice. How many low rankers had that group murdered before?⬅ Jin Woo is basically not a hunter any more -- he is a *player.* He may be the only player on the planet, and ranks are irrelevant to his progress. He has levels, unlike anyone else. Whether the System eventually applies itself to other humans I don't know. Jin Woo could have just been in the right multi-dimensional place at the right time to draw its interest, at the end of episode 2.

The scene with the women at the cafe was filler, so that why it was an awkward transition. Jinwoo said 2 things, first to paraphrase "The System needed a strong Jinwoo" & second "The system will use me and I'll use the system." So basically, he was more than willing to let the system use him and long as he could become stronger.

I watched all reactors for the Sung Jin vs The Scammers scene. I only watched ur reaction to the full ep cuz I feel that you pick up on subtleties about characters and purpose of scenes a lot more than others which is a treat. Its also cool how you didn't take the first murder not only as a "hype" moment (which admittedly it was very hype) but also considered how it would impact his character. As a manhwa reader I can tell you're gonna enjoy how sung jin's development is done (whether he falls into the shadows or walks in front of them is for you to see)

I hate people here complain about how she does not "lightly enjoy" Anime. Like, guys. When I watch this, I felt the similar way as her. Thought Sung Jin Woo was self-defense, but it was a natural feeling to be sad about his murder. And look at the people complaining that she don't enjoy Anime lightly here. I don't even know if that's defending SL anime or ignore it. Deep thoughts about character's behavior are the most enjoyable part in anime reaction, guys. It's not her that's making a drama, but it's you.

It didnt say "defeat them" in the manhwa... It says "KILL them" or hes going to die from heart attack.

See, I actually really love this take on Jin Woo killing other hunters. Cause like having read the manhwa and been hyped to see this scene get animated I was just hyped and excited. But remembering back to when I first read through it, and seeing that’s it’s your first time experiencing this, it really showed the depth of the influence that the system has on him early on. “Kill or be killed” basically sums it up. Amazing episode. Showcasing the fun, coolness, and darkness of the story all at once. The system doesn't differentiate between "humans" and "monsters." It's a system that's designed to level up the player, no morals or judgements. The moment the hunters targeted Jinwoo, the system saw "enemies" that could be used to fulfill a quest to level him up. Sensing his reluctance to kill his fellow man, it applied a steep penalty. Coming so close to death has definitely changed him, for better and worse. Amazing 👏 🔥🤟

You're thinking too deep. Yes certain emotions within him does die with all the killing and betraying but this show is just kill or be killed. This ain't no Vinland Saga with all the philosophical stuff abt killing is bad so just enjoy the drip. This is pure power fantasy meant for your satisfaction.

The song is called DARK ARIA ＜LV2> by Sawano Hiroyuki (yes the same composer for Attack on Titan) *_Things to Note_* 1) if they kill the spider (the dungeon boss) the dungeon will close one hour after it dies hence not enough time to get the crystals. 2)The Hunter Association Chairman is S Rank his name is Go Gunhee (at one point the most powerful Hunter in Korea but he got old and because of that his body could no longer handle his power so he had to retire) Even in his old age he is no Joke. His Assistant is A rank. 3) The manhwa used the word Slay not defeat it's a translation error (I read the novel a long long time ago so I might be wrong but I'm fairly certain it said kill there was no mistake it made it very clear he had to kill them).

Btw the full recovery he got was from last episode where he completed his daily quest before going in the dungeon but didnt take the rewards. He then took the full recovery in the spider fight

Prolly already out there, when he got to the site he had just completed the 10km run of his daily quest, he was about to confirm to rewards when Dongsuk (interesting name choice... 😂😅😂) greeted him and he never claimed the daily quest rewards. The system did give him a hand by flashing a reminder to reding the quest rewards right when he needed it the most.

Yeah I get why you got emotional. Cause comparing Jin Woo from episodes 1-3 to how he is now, it’s a real big leap. And the tone of this scene is definitely more sad/somber in the anime than the manwha mainly cause of the music playing during his rampage & the amazing job of his VA. Pretty much Jin was right about the system forcing him to kill those men, it literally said if he didn’t it would stop his heart killing him. It’s our first observation that the system isn’t as benevolent as we would like to believe. He didn’t want to kill them but pretty much he had no choice.

The anime messed up the translation. In the manwha the system told him to KILL the 6 people. That's why he was given the skill of murderous intent (aka bloodlust in the manwha). I hope this helps explain why he did it how he did

they said that about the high fatality rate is bc the guys that betrayed them already had other two teammates every other time they went in and they killed them, and all those times stacked up reason they said high fatality rate on their team

The saddest part about this is the raw emotion, or lack of, in his eye during that first kill. The way that I interpret this, he looks both emotionless and depressed at the same time. It looks like he's being forced to do something he hates, yet he understands that by getting emotional, or showing weakness, he'd either get killed by the hunters, or by the system that's threatening him to kill, so he throws his humanity away for the sake of survival. This is like the equivalent of getting kidnapped by some Mafia, and being told that in order to leave alive, you gotta kill some tied up people you don't know who've supposedly wronged him.

in the double dungeon when kim ran out and gave that pathetic excuse a bit of jinwoo's soul died ~ then in the instance with the bit about how kindness doesnt matter it doesnt protect you a piece of jinwoo's soul died ~ and now here he is forced to kill yet another piece of his soul died.....now the question is how much more will he kill parts of himself

Defeat is synonomous with kill in a game. Defeat 10 wolves. Defeat the dungeon boss etc. We don't question it when it's anything else. He had to rationalize his survival. Self defense is self defense. There was no murder here. Even without the system making a quest out of it. The reality was that they made up their minds to kill them for profit.

negotiation was out once the system forced the quest, this is also the part where we can see just how much control the system has over him, it's not just monsters and dungeons.

When they say "fatality rate" they dont mean the number of people that died in one dungeon, they mean the amount of times a strike team have fatal "accidents" on a consistent basis. That's what she means by suspicious.

I like to see the more deep discussion as the show can be written off to be lacking in story and writing to just be pure action power Fantasy. Not saying it's not a power Fantasy, but there is some good writing here!

When he's lying in the rubble talking to himself about how he became numb to how brutal the world is...the echo on his voice, the colour bleeding out...chills man 🥶

As badass as it is seeing those guy get slaughtered, in the end Sung Jin-Woo did not want to do it. He knows that this is gonna haunt him forever

To me that last scene where he was looking to the sky was more like he was getting numb, he didnt have any comment about the kill nor does he really thinks about it, and he's more concerned about small stuff like how he gave her sister an umbrella and turns out it does rain

I see people who have the reaction of he didn't have to kill them. The thing they are not thinking about. Not only did they try and kill him. They have also killed others with no issues.

Every time he finish a daily quest (sit ups/push ups/10km run) he receives 3 rewards (loot box/3pt stats/full recovery).

3 times he tried to kill him in my opinion were with the spider, second when he got shot by the magic and 3rd when they attacked him

This episode explains why the ED puts him in a backrooms situation where he reflects on everything. I'm now very curious to see how A1 handles his personality and inner psychology moving forward.

Manhwa readers know the system stated kill, but I think for the anime defeat is used to show him going beyond just knocking them out. Adds more emotion to his actions.

Yea he didnt use his Daily Reward he was granted. Yea I thought the same thing at first when I read it. But he gets all 3 rewards. And he never used the Full Recovery yet so it was still avaliable. As regard's t the Boss it was Probably Orange to him. Maybe a Few levels Higher. Plus his stats are good so far and he has a +25 to his Base Str so its I think 50 + 25 = 75 at the moment. I'm not sure how far it puts him but he has to be equal to at least a high C Rank right now. Anyone know his exact Rank at this time. Its pretty hard to guage. But if we go buy what they said in the first episode 70 base for E rank. Its probaly div by 5 so maybe 14 across the board is E rank, maybe if I understand.

iirc, in the manga and novel it said "kill". idk why it was changed in the anime to defeat, it just made jingwoo look like the bad guy. maybe it's a simple translation mistake.

Iirc, in the manwha, it says "kill" not "defeat". Regardless of the potential miswordings, killing will always be bad but it'll be the last draw for anyone to survive. It's kill or be killed.

I think this episode is an example on how poor localization can completely mislead people. It said "kill" not "defeat". The system put him in a situation where it is either kill or be killed as an ultimatum. You weren't the only one who was confused by the more ambiguous term. They also messed with one of the coolest lines he says by swapping out "hunted" for "preyed".

I may be wrong but I think this game isn't for Jinwoo's best interest like we are thinking it would be? It's leveling him up which is good, but the game is okay with forcing him to kill any enemies, including humans to stay alive. Also the statues that gave Jinwoo the power are also amongst the creatures that the hunters kill. I feel the game is turning Jinwoo into a weapon instead of what we'd think of growing as a hunter. I am probably wrong though. Also there must be more players out there chosen to play the game and not only Jinwoo. It seems down the line he will have to kill anyone who deems a threat to him if it stops him completing the game

I think you should stop to speculate on this anime. There is a reason why this story is hyped, and one is the story itself. When the story unfolds full, you will know why. :D
