Jesus! They seriously couldn't afford to hire anyone else to help out this poor, beyond dedicated, deeply devoted Toho employee while he painstakingly restores each and every single prop, miniature, and set piece. Perfecting every last detail on each prop so well that the miniatures actually look better then they did back in the 60s and 70s...Lol. With the insane amount of detail put into each and every minature and prop, I just pray with the amount of work he's put into this Toho has some shred of decency and... Ugh, actually, just looking at the size and overall complete state of chaos and disarray his workshop is currently, I knew they weren't paying him jack :/ I mean really, as much money as they're making off the blood sweat, and tears just from this guys back alone, they really are just too damn cheap to rent out some warehouse space to build a somwhat decent better functioning studio. Why would they help out their most loyal employee? Seriously though!?@? Making this poor homeless man squat out of an old, abandoned, Japanese fishing boat, while you force him to wipe down 40 year old Ultraman jock straps for nothing but room and board? Tsk tsk Toho, do you think Ultraman would be okay with this??? Huh? At least give him 3 hots and a cot!

Uhmm, Ultraman is owned by Tsuburaya not Toho. But both company is actually close though since some monster designer, writer and director work on both company in the past. Heck, Eiji Tsuburaya himself used to work on Toho too. But since this video is so old, we can see that the current ultra series is Ultraman Ginga. During that time, Tsuburaya already gone bankrupt due to over budget issue and debt that start from Gaia all the way to Mebius. After that, Tsuburaya Production is held by Bandai and FIELDS which both become parent company to Tsuburaya. Both this company have final say on anything which involve with Tsuburaya Production. Due to this changes, Tsuburaya don't have the same amount of budget that they used to and they have to fund themselves and beg money from both their parents company just to make Ginga series. Plus, Ginga is one of the ultra series that have the smallest budget. So even if they want to pay this guy with large amount of money, they probably don't have it and this requires extra money from both Bandai and FIELDS which don't always cooperate with Tsuburaya Production decision. But since this guy also restore props from Toho. This mean that they ALSO should pay this guy a large amount of money. But Welp.. 🤷

This video is so old and yet it still informative. I really love seeing Shinji Higuchi here who definitely enjoy doing this job. Seeing the old props and suit really bring back memories. Also, rewatching this after watching multiple Ultraman series is really cool since they use a lot of ultra soundtrack here!

lol Isn't it a tad ironic how Anno wants to preserve and protect tokusatsu from annihilation, yet his most famous anime series revolves around people struggling to prevent the end of the world and ultimately failing?

why does this only cover the tsuburaya/ kaiju saide of things but not the toei/henshin hero stuff
@Garzilla97
@Garzilla97 7 лет назад
strawberrybankai12 Most because Toho & Tsuburaya Productions are the founders of Tokusatsu. That and at the time, Toei had their own museum, it was called Toei Hero World. Sadly, it shut it doors for the last time in January of 2017.

true but toei also played a relatively big role wen it came to tokusatsu especially when it comes to bringing toku to the west
@Garzilla97
@Garzilla97 7 лет назад
strawberrybankai12 Yes and No. Every Godzilla film back in the day (Godzilla 1954-Godzilla Returns) were dubbed or even added extra scenes when brought over to the west. I also think if you want to thank anyone for bringing modern Toku to the west, it would have to be Saban Entertainment.
@strawberrybankai12

I have almost no interest in American Godzilla films made with CGI. I hate CGI -- it's the worst technique for bringing giant monsters to the screen. The FUN of the tradtional films was the Japanese-style practical effects pioneered by Eiji Tsburaya. CGI has sucked the life out of these films. CGI should never be used for something that's supposed to be alive, especially in close-up. In the past, even when they could have used stock footage of a commercial jet (say) or tanks rolling down a road, the Japansese often used miniatures for these scenes -- so much more visually interesting than stock footage. CGI has take the magic and sense of wonder from these and the Harryhausen stop-motion films. The craft is gone. and the old techniques were simply better.
@kimjongoof5000
@kimjongoof5000 4 года назад
I want to recreate the look of Tokusatsu in CGI with everything I have. It will take lots of dedication, patience, and determination, but if this project actually succeeds, I might revolutionize the film industry.

I personally think the Monsterverse films look great, but I do agree that Suitmation and models Are the preferable way to go, but at least in My opinion both have their place and can work great on their own and even better when put together
