The reason for poke spam is simple, this game is VERY pro offense and with latency you can literally just skate right towards a player D man and get by him before he can react...the not pursuing you is a mistake for sure as you should always add pressure to the puck carrier even if its rather futile, but I know why they do this as well and that's because they are under the mistaken mindset they are denying you a passing lane crosscrease.

love the videos man. they help me out A LOT. but i have an issue with defense. it is very sub par and its kiling me. my players do not react to the puck carrier. If there is a loose puck, they run from it to set up on defense. they dont play aggressive, and my poke checks dont do squat. can you help with different strategies on how i can make my defense play better?

That is how you're actually supposed to play defense against the overload, because if you commit to the puck carrier then he can give and take or do a quick pass and a run in shot. You have more options than him, you could even just deke by him as he comes for a poke or hit.The problem is more on the lines of not having good defensive controls, otherwise you'd never get that pass.

Nice vid! Probably super useful... But I don't need it cuz my defense is fine! I just have a problem with scoring. :/ That's why I watched your other tips and tricks videos! Thanks a lot Drunk!

Can you give me some tips on the best settings for the game as far as these ...1-3-1, 1-4? Collapsing? Normal, protect neck, puck side attack?? Thanks!

Do you have a video on tips for how to actually play defense???

They're coming asap! The problem is that the most effective way to play in zone defence right now is to do exactly what you said in your other comment: stand in the slot and let your AI get the puck for you. It's sad, but true. I'd suggest becoming better at defense on the rush and prevent your opponent from setting up in your zone, this avoiding the problem altogether. That is definitely a video that I will be making soon.

+The Drunk Italian yes if you can show me how to play better on the rush without tripping 75% of the time or going out of position that would be great. thanks dude

It is too easy to score when only one giy attacks the puck carrier. I am not sure which settings I need to use in order to make more of my players get aggressive on the puck carrier. I t is WAY to easy to deke out one on one.

I think it's hard to switch to the guy you want but also to keep the puck. I try to deke and hold the puck away but I always get knocked over.. Hint: I get thrashed in d.9

The only division I struggle in is 2. You might as well not even play if your struggling in 9. Just cross crease, shortside, and slap it off the faceoff if you have a guy on his off hand (Right at LD, Left on RD). You have to learn the mechanics of this game, and adapt to it. On defense, only skillzone if you face a guy that just goes for the cross crease. It works more than it doesn't. The people in this video have no thumbs. If not, you want to make sure you're never chasing a guy, always stay in front of him. If you're chasing him, odds are he's going to either snipe it, go for the cross crease, or shortside. If you find yourself chasing someone, switch players. The computers actually play good defense in this game. Also, if you have good players, take the one-t slapshot from the point. Odds are someone is going to tip it in

I have improved lately trying to do the things you've mentioned. I'm in d.7 now and just one win from advancing up. My problem tho is to get to these situations. I usually find that the opponent is faster and stronger.. I can rarely get a hit like others get on me.

+Snilsson That could be your connection. Host advantage is huge in this game. One thing you never want to do is step up on defense to get big hits. Play conservative on defense, the poke check is very effective. Just don't become one of those spammers. If you have good connection, its easier to become host. I have 100/10, and usually get host. Host doesn't have to do with home/away, but if you get host, usually you'll feel it in game. Your players are way faster, and you'll find it way easier to shoot.

How do you play defense then?

That involves a whole series of videos, breaking down individual situations. They're coming though, it's just a big challenge to tackle since there is really no single way to play defence. Feel free to subscribe and stay tuned for when those videos are released!

Some of the people were using real life tactics, example... you don't need to chase someone behind the net...

4:00 Your clip highlights everything wrong with this game. Balance has been tossed out the window so ten year old kids that got the game for Christmas can be Ovi, but defensmen can't intercept cross crease passes, aim the poke check without sweeping lxldanglemaster97lxl's feet out and taking a penalty, stick check without high sticking or shattering his glass stick, pick up stray pucks, or get bumped n the back by a sniper without dropping the puck for him.

alot of the people dont move when playing defense or just simply let the CPU play defense because its fucking impossible to get the puuck away from anyone. forwards just spin and spin... mean while youve probably missed 12 hits and have taken 10 tripping penalties. I dont understand this game at all. how the fuck do u get the puck!!!!!!

Honesty the NHL 16 community is the shittiest community ever. 98 percent of people play like this. That's why I hop on the mic, chirp at them, make them frustrated, force them to take the puck from me and it's an easy win ;)
