honestly, i like that you didn't get the trade to go through with Nate MacKinnon, and the fact that you didn't pick Brodin either. Veleno will take time to develop, but that also focuses you to build around him, and keep this series around for longer. if you got someone like Brodin or MacKinnon, he'd be like a 93 overall in like 3 years, you'd win a cup, and it would get boring from there (JUST MY OPINION). Veleno will challenge you to grow your prospect pool, and to try and build a winning team for the later future, not just now. Brodin would've changed your view on the franchise (again, just my opinion, this is usually how i play) and with a star like him in the NHL, you would've been forced to build a good team around him for the present. Now you have Veleno, Nylander, Domi, Lilijegren and Pickard. Your EXACTLY like a team in the 2nd/3rd years of a retool. This is where you should be ;D. No need to make too many huge splashes. It'll be nice to see you build around Veleno, and see him win when he is like 90+ overall by like year 7 or 8.

Don't be sad about Veleno. Play him in Minors/Junior for one year then play him in the NHL and see if he can grow like Liljgren. Remember the whole point of this GM mode is build a new team. When you started, you had nothing and trading for a franchise player would not be right. All the best franchise players are drafted. So try to suck again for the next 2 years at least and see what kind of team you can build. For free agency, I think you should start getting trading assets on cheap, 1-year deals. Then at the trade deadline, trade those players for prospects and picks in the next year draft. One problem you had in your rebuild is that you don't have enough quality picks to get good prospects for your team. So when you sign decent players to cheap contracts, you should be able to flip a few of them for a late first or some seconds or a decent prospect. I really hope you can get the rebuild going for Japan.

i feel like you have decent forwards who can actually get to a playoff spot but the goaltending has to change, i say trade to a team that has more than one good goalie like Jets (Comerie) or even Demko from the Canucks, you might have to trade your 1st round pick but it's ok cause the farther u go, the worse the draft class gets so it would be better to use the picks in your trades.

Hope this helps in some way in the future. Love your vids. An underrated good young goal scorer with not massive trade value is Roope Hintz from DAL. Veleno never turns into anything. Trade him while his value is high for Hintz. I've done tons of franchise modes and the highest I've seen him after he stops growing is 83. It's very weird. If you ever want a great goalie long term I recommend getting Rodrigue in a draft in the future (if anyone knows what year, I don't remember), Rodrigue becomes a beast around 90 overall at high fringe starter, Evan Fitzpatrick from STL, Eric Comrie from WPG or Linus Soderstrom from NYI.

something that will help you when drafting, if it says a potential high, its the one above it. ex. high top 6 forward would be elite, or high top 6 d would be top 4.

I drafted Joe Veleno and he is great. after a few years he got franchise potential (medium) and my best player by far. Get him Xtech get him!

Tech, when doing the draft, try to draft players based on potential, not projected draft round. I usually find some steals with that method. Dont go way off the board with it, but if you sort by potential and draft reasonable to their projected round you'll get better prospects.

if you are pumping out year long sims every week. veleno will be good in no time. His trade value will be like MacKinnon's even when he's in his thirties.

See the way to grow players in this game that don't usually grow well, such as timmy lil and nico hisc, is by forcing them into playing the top lines early in their careers, i've gotten nico up to 86 by just playing him first line time for the first 3-4 years of his career, and he never turns into anything useful unless you do stuff like that

If you ever want to acquire an asset that has high value like Mackinnon, you're going to have to give up so much that the trade value bar on your side nearly doubles your trading partner unless the name is red. You were offering assets that matched colorado's trade value which is a trade they would never take.

Why don't you just trade for Borodin then? Throw Veleno in the trade and maybe a 1st from a much later year. It's not the end of the world.

In my opinion u should trade Velano for Brodin or u can try and maybe trade him for Patrick. If u trade for Patrick I'm guessing you'll need to add a 1st round pick but it's worth it. However I think Brodin will be a better fit since Brodin is a RW and Patrick is a C and u will already have Nylander there which he will grow a lot. Hope this helps you out!

Try doing your next years first round pick for the guy Vancouver drafted, since the number one pick next year may not even be as good as Brodin is now.

people dont understand that HIgh top 9 and high top 6 d get fucking good. i had nikita tryamkin from vancouver get to 91 overall at high top 6 d. its the same as 3 1/2 green stars in old GM and they are studs

you should go get some young player in the 20 years old like jordan eberle, ryan nugent-Hopkins,David Pastrnak, Leon Draisaitl or defenceman to have a solid first pairing like sami vatanen, hampus lindhom,Zach Werenski, Torey Krug, Shayne Gostisbehere. I think you should try to trade veleno with brodin, and since hes 80 overall out of the draft hes nhl ready and then you can play brodin with nylander and have an amazing swedish line with a great playmaker and a great sniper!

I did the draft for year 2 while playing NHL 17, first overall pick was a medium top 9, the elite went eighth overall, I got 13 overall and got a medium top 6 forward. So the draft was pretty trash

Dont trade veleno you have a perfect start to a franchise a top prospect dman and a future #1 center do this right build through the draft and in 4-5 years you will have a cup contender don't go make a bunch of unrealistic trades and make it easy on yourself

I think you should make a trade to Vancouver for olli juolevi he is decent usually turns out to 88-90 ovr which would be perfect to pair up with Lillgegren. Deal you're first round pick for next years draft as it is horrible I had a 10th ovr pick in that draft and it was a 7th d.

You should edit rosters in the junior so drafts aren't shit becaus there are a lot of players who deserve to be better than they are. For exemple veleno should be close to nhl ready and rasmus dahlin should be at least elite potential and countless others should be better than they are in the game
