@Turtle_60, They started out as the New England Whalers in 1972, in a now defunct league, the WHA (World Hockey Association) Then in 1979 the NHL and WHA merged. Four teams in the WHA moved into the NHL, The Quebec Nordiques (Now Colorado Avalanche), Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets (Now Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes), and the New England Whalers (Now Carolina Hurricanes). Then They changed the name to the Hartford Whalers, and moved to Greensboro, North Carolina (Then Raleigh), Sorry for the long explanation, I just now a lot about Ice Hockey.
