The league's reaction to the John Scott selection was an embarrassment. Let the fans have their fun at the event that supposed to be for the fans.

The Sean Avery rule doesn't prevent players from standing in front of the goaltender or blocking their view. You just have to be facing the play.

I really hope the NHL makes a new rule that makes all new players have to wear neck protection.

You missed the Wayne Gretzky rule! In 1985, the NHL Board of Governors changed the rules for coincidental minor penalties and allowed teams to play 5-on-5 instead of 4-on-4, feeling the Oilers had an unfair advantage in those situations. Thankfully, the rule was rescinded in 1992.

As a former goaltender who took great pride in my puck handling skills I have to say the trapezoid is absolutely idiotic. It has taken most of the athleticism out of goaltending.

I still say if the league really wanted to cut down on goalies playing the puck they'd make them fair game outside the crease. I don't so much buy into the greatness of a player playing the puck when you're not allowed to touch them.

One rule that someone caused a change was goaltender Clint Benedict. The rule was goaltenders could not fall or sprawl to the ice to keep the puck out of the net. But the NHL was formed and the rules were changed to allow goaltenders to do so. "As far as I'm concerned, they can stand on their head and make a save" said NHL president Frank Calder (yes, the same Calder who in 1937 commenced buying a trophy to go to the league's rookie of the year, and the same Calder who donated a beautiful trophy to the AHL champions.) When Calder died in 1943, the league's board of governors donated the present Calder Memorial Trophy in his memory to go to the NHL rookie of the year.

I don't think anyone felt sorry for Claude Lemieux when Razor was feeding him shirtless knuckle sandwiches in Buffalo! That being said I did see a few interviews with Claude after he retired and he seems like a decent dude off the ice.... Razor was fun to watch but he didn't do so well with Twisterelli in that scrap in St. Louis....
