Shannon, your weekly Saturday night movies are a treat, as is your entire channel. I can't think of a single other creator who pumps out SO much content consistently, that is all interesting and shows your deep love of the game. I have been using your power rankings and other update videos to keep track of the season's trends and teams' ups/downs for a couple years now - your content and your casual, whiteboard-talk demeanor are a joy to watch!!
Nobody should ever question the hockey guy's power rankings. Not only are power rankings subjective to opinion, but Shannon literally goes on to explain why each team is where it is, so he gives room for conjecture. No need to complain people.
I feel dirty seeing the Wings move up 4 spots. Since your rankings are so motivated by how the team is actually playing at this moment, I feel like they should have been knocked DOWN, it's rough. Worst 5 on 5 offense, horrible special teams, while getting outshot 2:1 night after night.

Shannon, Yvonne must be really ecstatic with the Jets being the top team in the NHL! Yvonne: My Jets are 8-0! Hun, pinch me to make sure I'm not dreaming this! Shannon: I would pinch you anyways, even if the Jets weren't this good!
As a Winnipeg Jets fan, this run of 8-0 feels surreal... and they do find a way to win every single game. Part of the kudos have to go to our new PP and PK coaches who have changed our special teams from being way down in the NHL stats to top notch... and our guys are out there, putting themselves on the line every night, from top to bottom. Helle has played 6/8 games and Comrie has played 2/8. They have kept every game at 3 goals or less. Let's keep it going, Jets!
Man, I hope Winnipeg can keep this thing going! I'm an Oilers fan but I've always liked Winnipeg too. Besides, Edmonton fans always need an "alternate favourite" for when their team $hits the bed as they do with such regularity.
The Jets have 8 players at a point a game pace or better. So they have the most balanced attack in the NHL. Their defence is solid. And Hellebuyck is playing some of the best hockey (And he's a remarkablely consistently superior goalie). It's right now a team without weaknesses. If they can get Vilardi going. Yikes. I'm a Canucks fan but I like seeing Winnipeg doing great.
I had to listen a second time because I thought the same thing. Even more hilarious is getting to winnepeg and the bit about fans feeling like he is too harsh on them right after forgetting them lmao
How can THIS team be ahead of THAT team when this OTHER different team hasn’t even played against the FIRST TEAM i mentioned!?!?! This power ranking is absolutely bogus. I CALL SHANNON-AGINS!!!! 😂😂😂 love you THG. You’re the MAN!!!
Get used to the Flyers moving up. Tonight the line of TK, Mitchkov, and Coots combines for 12 points, and Luchenko was sent back down. This may indicate the end of the endless line shuffling Torts has been doing so far this season. Sadly York went down to injury, but we are seeing a rise in consistency from guys like Risto lately, so when healthy like Seeler just coming back the boys can play some hockey.
They really need a goalie to show up. Neither goalie is even close to .900 right now, and it hurts. There's no way they can score more than 5 goals a game to carry such heavy goaltending
Well Shannon, it seems we're back on the same page, the only difference being, I had Minnesota at 18 last week, and I moved Minnesota up ten spots, the seven game road trip ends in Pittsburgh, there first two lines are as good as anybody's I pegged Kaprizov for a 120 points before the season, he may eclipse that now, finally I'm smiling again, watching my beloved WILD As ALWAYS GREAT SHOW SHANNON Denny from Minnesota
VGK are 13th in GAA and have a great D core and they will get better in time. They are letting in more goals than usual so I see their defensive numbers getting better throughout the season. Scoring a ton of goals will definitely help them in this regard 😝 go Knights go!
Vegas is scoring very well considering there talent they lost. Their power play has been absolutely unreal considering their history. It is very early but this team is very fun to watch. Go knights go!
I'm happy with how the season's going so far. That top line of Barbashev-Eichel-Stone is nothing short of a revelation, Hertl is finding his groove, the kids are coming into their own and even the grinders like Howden and Pearson are contributing to the score sheet. If Hill can get his mojo back and Samsonov keeps playing well I could see Vegas contending for first in the division and maybe even the conference.
Was hoping my Blackhawks didn’t drop to 31… but yk it’s probably about right. 2-6-1 loses to Buffalo and Nashville, barely beat SJ. Hopefully we put up more fight this year
Even when the Jets play meh, they manage to get fluky goals and win anyways. 16 consecutive regular season wins now! Against TO, expect to see a deflection off Matthews, into his own net. That's just how the Jets roll lately!
Commenting again. I’m feeling good again about my Jets. However, it means nothing until playoffs. Also rough night for both goalies. I felt they played well and should’ve been a 3-1 game rather than 5-3
Well worth for the power ranking alone , but there is just so much more . I am sure that at some point I will stop saying it , but not quite yet , I don't know how you do it all so well . The depth , the variety , and most importantly the limited bias . Opinions are only opinions after all , but you seem to have most of yours in check . One final thing , GO JETS GO ! Cause when your a JET your a JET all the way ❗
They were pretty low to start to season and I dont blame that after last season. Big jump after huge wins and decent start and after long trip. Just a bad goalie and defensive game but offence is definetly there. Im sure they get it back together in Pittsburgh. I wanna see how they play at home after this roadtrip. Exciting season for the Wild.
As a Lightning i am both suprised and cautious about this team. Scoring outside of the top line last season was almost nonexistent and though the last few games have seen a lot of secondary scoring im very cautious of the fact that they were largely nonexistent last season and didnt show up until game 5 this season. To add to that the couple losses we've had and the 8-5 win against Jersey highlights the same issue we had with our defensive structure last season where we more resembled a group of chickens with their heads cut off rather then a team that is not only defensively sound but defensively proactive. All that said this team has leaps and bounds more energy then last season's they're skating faster, playing harder, being more aggressive through the neutral and offensive zones. On another note i don't know if trading Sergachev changed the look of the defense as much as reaquiring McDonaugh and allowing Cernak to actually heal from multiple concussions did.
As a Jets fan, I am as happy as I am worried, until they can translate their regular season success to when it matters in the playoffs. It’s dreadful to see them go through the same path year after year! Hopefully the new coaching group can change that.
San Jose might be better, but they have to do a lot more when the other basement teams also take steps to improve themselves in the offseason and their rookie sensation got injured early. Buffalo's start doesn't surprise me because teams starting the season overseas often have slow starts when they return to North America, which could also explain some of New Jersey's woes.
Maybe losing to a team well below them in the rankings and the Vegas game being last week might have something to do with that? He's said this over and over again, it's not just about wins and loses.
Why would the Rangers and the Leafs be spoken of being in a simular situation? The last time the Rangers went to the Finals i watched it in 1080p. The last time the Leafs made the finals my parents weren't even born.(im not that young either im in my 30s)
Toronto's like a pretty girl who refuses to get her clothes dirty in on a camping trip. No grit. I hope Berube has a competent therapist while coaching that group.
Shannon, once again, putting the Panthers too low. Moved them down, while they beat the number 2 team and the number 4 team. On top of that, they've done this without Barkov and Chucky for most of the year. 🤦🏻♂️
I'm not questioning your methods, but it really doesn't feel to me that Wings should be that high up. And I say that as a Wings fan. They can't keep getting outshot like this and get away with it. Looking for too many perfect passes on offense. Bad at clearing pucks. Slow. I don't think I've ever been this... disappointed with a .500 start.
Your negative bias towards the Kings continues, 10th in the league in points % , while only having played two games at home & you have them at 18. Five points ahead of the oilers but still lower than them in the standings. Laughable
@@sameold5050 when? The only time they were first team eliminated was 2015 playoffs, and it was their first ever playoff appearance a decade ago, so big deal.
Islanders are too high. We stink in every aspect of the game. We can’t finish, we can’t defend, we aren’t a physical team, our pp and pk are both bottom 5, we lack skill, we can’t hold a lead or make a comeback, most of the roster consists of low iq players, we are the slowest team in the nhl, we aren’t fun to watch. All we have is sorokin. This is a 80 or less point team. Roy is already fed up with Lou, if you heard his postgame comments it’s clear he hated the roster moves made today. Lou needs to go NOW. Many players are in year 1 or 2 of 7/8 year extensions and they’re already regressing. We expected an eventual 12 year rebuild. It’s starting 3 years early. Next 15 years will be so brutal. I’m prob done with hockey this year. I’m just so over this team. They’re unbearably predictable and flat out awful
