As a Quebecer, gotta love that Colorado jersey! I love that they paid homage to the Nordiques/Quebec in general, we have such a rich history in hockey and I'm glad it doesn't go unnoticed!
I think that Colorado should have used the Rocky sweater (I know that the team started in KC but that old Rocky sweater would have looked great as the regular uni. Sam-I'm not Quebecois but I was there when the WHA Zstarted up and IMHO the Colorado sweater is an insult to everybody who ever purchased a ticket for the Nordique franchise. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE NORDIQUE LOGO THEN THE NHL SHOULD GET OFF ITS BACKSIDE AND PUT A TEAM BACK IN QUEBEC!!!
As a Red Wings fan, I'm pissed about our lack of effort on this jersey. I thought we were getting a 50's era throwback which would have been one of the best, especially if it was the old Winged Wheel. I also feel like Buffalo missed an opportunity to do another Angry Goat. That's my fav look from them and the dinner plate jersey was always kind of meh to me. I'm buying a caps jersey. Fuck it. That thing is gorgeous.
The Colorado jersey looks so clean it's personally my favourite but I'm from Montréal and have always adored the nordiques jersey so to see it back even in Colorado's colours it's my absolute favourite even more than Montréal however the Montréal jersey is probably my favourite jersey we've had for like a special occasion or reason
I really think they could have used the "M" from the wordmark logo as a substitute for the "N" on the North Stars jersey to _really_ give it the retro feel. It would have looked sick. (Maybe on the WC jersey, whenever they get it back)
I'm a massive Dallas Stars fan but I totally agree, the jersey is too washed out. If they added more green it would have been gorgeous. But it just feels bland. Will I own it? Of course because I'm a fan. But I'll probably end up getting the Carolina Hurricanes jersey first because they made an incredible Whalers throwback!
Same here! They are saying that the Adidas template wouldn't allow for the full poncho effect. Also, it seems they are going to wear white pants, gloves and helmet with these, so the all white made more sense from that aspect. I totally agree the script should have been in green and maybe the star a shiny silver (since Tom G. doesn't want anything to do with the North Star history or color scheme). Oh well...like you, being a huge fan I will own one regardless haha!
@@KrisVic91 yeah I think a lot of hockey fans do, especially if they don't have a horse in the race. I am too big of a fan of my team to ever wear another, but I can appreciate how nice some of them look (which of course upsets us fans that don't like what OUR team is doing haha)

As a Kings fan who is always sad that their team never really gets discussed, I’m thrilled to see this jersey at or near the top of every ranking I’ve seen. Personally, it’s on of my favorite Kings jerseys of all time. Wish they would have picked the Burger King jersey to reverse retro, but they nailed it anyway.
Uhhh your team was a dynasty for years that won multiple cups not that long ago. Kinda hard to feel bad that "no one talks about the Kings" now. Maybe let other teams have their time in the sun, LA has won way more than most franchises.

Vancouverite here, the majority of Canucks fans (and media) are hating on the reverse retro, complaining that they should have done a V or skate throwback, even though they’ve already done the flying skate TWICE I’ve always had a soft spot for the navy to Marion gradients, but now that they’ve paired it with the best colours the Canucks have ever worn, it is already a top 3 Canucks jersey. I almost pre-ordered 2 I was so excited. PS yes I drank a lot of sprite as a child.
They did try, but not very hard. I like the jersey, I just think it looks like a bad effort next to what most of the other teams came up with (hahaha the Islanders. wtf?).
Melody, I think you need a customized Kings Reverse Retro sweater with your name and number from the Be a Pro series on the back...it would be pretty sweet!
I wouldn’t mind it but it’s the reverse of the jersey they released LAST SEASON which makes it feel much less unique or new. Having just done the 90s retro they needed to choose something else. Maybe a yellow primary since they’ve never had one.

I completely agree putting the Blues so high. I remember the blue version of these that debuted not long after I started following them. I like the Reverse Retro so much I bought multiple.

I'm in the same boat, Forsberg is my all time favorite player and I grew up loving those teams just as much as the Sabres. I have a Forsberg Nordiques jersey but it's so tempting to get one of these new ones with MacK or Mikko.
Top 5 1) Ducks - Don't @ me. Wildwing Jersey is the best. I'm not a ducks fan and I'm getting a #8 with Selanne on the back in that just ridiculous font. 2) Coyotes - Purple, that's just bold. And I love it. 3) Avs/Nords - I'm a sucker for the colour swap. You'll see that as my top 5 rounds out. 4) Canes/Whalers - The Whalers have the best logo, and the Canes know it. 5) Wild - This is FIRE. The Wild mountain lion looks PERFECT in Northstars' colours. Change your colours Wild. Honourable Mention: Devils. Not good enough to break into my top 5, but the green is gorgeous. Bottom 5 27) Islanders - This is a good jersey, if this was a redesign for the Islanders primary, I'd love it. But it's reverse retro, and Lou is apparently allergic to fun. 28) Red Wings - These look like practice jerseys. 29) Stars - These look bad. Just way too much white. 30) Jets - These look terrible, why? Why when you have the Thrashers logo to play with? Why grey? That's so dull and boring, it's gonna look like trash on the ice. 31) Leafs - I'm a Leafs fan, and this is the bottom of the barrel jersey wise. Worst primary logo selected, 2nd worst and DIFFERENT on the shoulders. Weird grey yoke. Blue Leaf on Blue Jersey. Like they must have tried to get everything wrong. Why not just do like the St Pats' shamrock in blue? Or the regular Leafs jersey in Green? They have a place to go and they chose to go to the worst place.

As a Canucks fan, the reverse retro looks like a Sprite can to me. I’ve always loved the gradient too especially in the Black/Red. The Reverse Retro is so nice for current day. You’ll see me get a Demko one!
As an Avs fan, I wish the Canucks went back to that old black and yellow jersey, maybe with the current logo in the middle. I feel like this one lacks creativity.
1. Kings (It's nice to finally see them back in their original colours again and personally, I think they should keep to them or at least the black/purple variant) 2. Habs (So simple yet so perfect. Absolutely gorgeous) 3. Nordilanche (Quebec deserves some love) 4. Canucks (I know it gets compared to a can of Sprite but I honestly thought it looked nice) 5. Blues (You can't mistake it for anything else even if I've seen the original in some really dodgy pop videos, this one looks good) This is probably sacrilege to you and Sabres fans but I would've liked to have seen the current logo go through the black and red combo. Finally, as a Flyers fan, ours is fine but there isn't really an awful lot anyone could do except maybe tilt the colours at odd angles.
As a Blues fan my only issue with the reverse retro is that we got that same exact jersey last year when they released the 90s retro jerseys. All they did was flip the red and blue from last years retro jersey. Don’t get me wrong it looks amazing but it would’ve been cool to see them use one of the powder blue classic jerseys for the reverse retro.
Hey Mel. Funny you mention the Islanders fisherman jersey in this vid; I actually tagged former Isles goalie Jamie McLennan on Twitter once regarding those jerseys, and he DMed me saying he was one of the few players who actually liked it
I'm impressed with most of the Reverse Retros. Only a handful of disappointments. I'd say my bottom 5 would be 31. Leafs 30. Red Wings 29. Stars 28. Jets 27. Sharks Followed by the Vegas, Hawks and Whalers. They're all okay, the Whalers best of these three by far, but you can probably tell that I'm not the biggest fan of grey as a main color. And the Islanders jersey... Is it unimaginative? Yes. Could they have done much better? Yes. But is it a bad jersey? Not by a long shot. I'd really love to own any of the other jerseys, probably from the Jets and down, so the top 5 is pretty difficult to do, but it probably looks like this: 5. Kings 4. Lightning 3. Capitals 2. Panthers 1. Canucks Still feels weird leaving Minnesota and Colorado out of the top 5, all of these deserve the number 1 spot in my opinion. And I love the Ducks and Coyotes as well. Buffalo looks good, I don't mind the wordmark, since it was on the original and it would've been weird to leave it out. I got myself a Penguins jersey, being a Penguins fan, and I'm in love with that jersey, super happy with it!
We have similar taste in alot of these i loved the references to other jerseys also the storm tampa the fisherman NYI also the Pittsburgh jersey u referenced is an all time favorite of mine as well i loved the nhl 94 reference still the best game ever im a Carolina Hurricanes fan but that Sabres jersey u have on is my favorite jersey of all time i had both the white and the black as a kid and always used Buffalo in the NHL games during that time period Mirsolav Satan was 1 of my favorite players
As a Canucks/Sabres fan, I couldn't be happier with the jerseys they released. The Gradient and Butterknives are two of my favorite jerseys, just pure nostalgia overload from my childhood. Already ordered a Canucks one, will probably snag the Sabres one in the near future.

As of Pens fan, I don't mind it. Its reverse retro like it says to be, even though the black version of it is way better in my opinion. Probably because Snoop Dog wore it in the gin an juice music video. Also the jersey you mentions that you wished the penguins did is called the robo penguin jersey. I hate to be "That Guy", but the official name for the Kings' retro color scheme is Forum Blue and Gold. That being said, I'm okay with the Kings' R.R. I kinda wish they would have gone back to the 2000's color scheme (Black and Purple) combined with the 90's logo, but I'm satisfied with what we got.
Im a Canucks fan, that starting following hockey religiously around the same time as you (early 2000's). I loved those OG gradient jerseys too. Was my favourite jersey back in the day, & first real jersey I got. Alot of Canucks fans do hate it, must be an age thing. Although many fans just hate the Orca in general - nevermind adding the gradient.

As a non Buffalo fan, I think you actually ranked theirs pretty fairly. I thought that one was 8-11 on my list. I didn’t have exact rankings, I just picked a top 10 and bottom 3, but I’ll try to do 10. I have to disagree majorly with some of your picks though. NYR logo choice was awesome, but the jersey design is worse than the original jersey- so it lost a lot with me. VGK going red was a terrible choice. All they did was take their current design, flip the logo to their shoulder design, and use their accent as a 3rd color. I’ll give them that it was a good try, and it was out of the box- but red isn’t really even a 3rd color for them, and they didn’t change anything else besides not using the main logo. I would have stuck with the metallurgical theme and gone with a bronze/copper. SJ I didn’t like either- they have one of the most unique colors in the league, and they chose to almost entirely remove it from their jersey and use an ugly grey. MTL I’ll give them credit for trying- but it looks like an old Nordiques jersey that removed all the cool elements. They’re a team that could have merged the red and blue similar to how VAN did and made a sick jersey. My top 10 would be 1) WSH, 2) STL, 3) COL, 4) LAK, 5) VAN 6) ANA, 7) NJD, 8) WPG, 9) BUF, 10) MIN (somewhere from 8-11, ARI) And bottom 10 are: DET, SJ, NYI, PIT, VGK, CHI, COL, TOR, DAL, and NYR Some teams lose points for doing no work, even if they returned to an old design. Hartford/Carolina is the obvious one like this. I like the Whalers jersey a lot, but they didn’t try to change anything or make a hybrid at all. As a Detroit fan, I can understand how the Original 6 teams had a much harder job on something like this, but Detroit is the epitome of doing no work. They could have easily taken the jersey they did, added the old English D on one shoulder, the word Detroit down the other arm, added a red underarm on the Detroit (word) side, and red stripe where the grey stripe is on the old English D side. Boom I fixed it in less than a minute, and it’s still classic.

My favorite jerseys are the Buffalo Sabres jerseys with the Buffalo's head on it I love the colors they put together and now they put it all in white blue and yellow I really love ever jerseys that the Buffalo Sabres ever came out can't help it they are my favorite team.
For the original 6 teams and maybe Philadelphia also, it would have probably been worse if they had done something gimmicky and ambitious given that their identities are pretty rooted in not doing that. Like yeah, Detroit could have made a logo with the Little Caesar's guy with wings holding a hockey stick and I'd enjoy it, but it would probably be a mistake. I almost think those teams should just be kept outside of any rating system. That said, props to Montreal for finding a way to do something interesting while maintaining the classicness of it. But that was only possible because they legitimately have 2 colors in their scheme, which Detroit, Toronto, Boston, and Chicago really don't.

As a biased fan I would have the Oilers quite a bit higher. For me, top 2 are Nordiques and Whalers. I will probably own both at some point. That red wings sweater is gross. I agreed with a lot of your opinions. Thanks for this video!
Since they already went back to the royal blues and brought back the crossed swords logo, do you think the Sabres should bring back that gorgeous goathead jersey you're wearing as a permanent alternate? I absolutely love it and think it'd be great and it'd be an eye catcher for sure to see them wear black on certain nights, especially on tv for surfers.
@@scottlow6342 The Ducks and Yotes are not bad or WHY? because they did what people wanted, yes those jerseys are an eye sore but they are almost so bad they're good, the only thng is I do not really like them but I cannot hate them for listening to their fans. The Blues one is pretty much a reverse retro so yes it is bad but the Stars one is soo much worse. And for the Knigths one I do not mind it so I could take it or leave it
Bottom 5 31 - Detroit - The biggest disappointment for me as the 97-98 Wings carry a lot of personal attachments for me and my family. The silver stripes just aren’t enough - could’ve been salvaged with some red striping and their Centennial Logo. How I’d alter it - Using their Away template, I’d swap the red arms for silver, and include a red stripe bordered in white on the arms, with a red or silver stripe along the waist. 30 - Boston - Really dislike the striping and logo, the White on Yellow just doesn’t work for me. 29 - Edmonton - Just really boring, and I’ve never been a fan of the yolk striping, I’d love to see a thin white stripe in between the orange and blue, to mirror the arm striping. 28 - Dallas - Should have been green at the bottom, with a different logo colorway. Really disappointing as it was one of my favourite templates when I was a kid. 27 - New York - Objectively, the Islanders jersey works, in context though it completely misses the point of these jerseys. My real issue is with the Rangers - it’s a great logo.... on a blue practice jersey. The striping is so thin, and I’m shocked they didn’t incorporate the lower arm colour, it could’ve been white (to reference the stripes on the American flag) or flip the colours to white/red/white with red arms for the same reason. Alternatively just make the stripes more prominent, but it feels so lazy and minuscule to me. 26 - Ottawa - Honestly just not a fan of this look, I wish they’d used the old away template from this set, and incorporated the arm striping they omitted from their rebrand, swapping the red for white and vice versa. Top 5 5 - Washington - I am so happy they brought this logo back, and it looks gorgeous in their current colourway. The jersey itself is well executed and it will look fantastic on the ice - if only they could put the Weagle on the crest of their default set. 4 - Minnesota - I love the decisions made here, including the North Stars palette in the Wild branding has been a pipe dream of mine for a long time, it’s glorious - I don’t know how much I like the yellow stroke around the logo though 3 - Vancouver - THEY ACTUALLY BROUGHT BACK THE GRADIENT - AND IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE. I always disliked their decision to use Maroon and Navy in the original, as it clashed really hard. The Blue and Green synergy completely fixes that issue in my opinion and It. Just. Works. 2 - San Jose - They brought my favourite jersey template back and somehow elevated it even higher with the inclusion of white between the teal and black, the grey base allows for each colour to really pop, and allows the colour palette to meld together in a way that the original jerseys just didn’t. Highly considering this one for purchase. 1 - Winnipeg - Call me biased, call me stupid, call me whatever you want. I don’t understand the flack this jersey has been getting from so many people - The grey is so military, and elevates a colour in the Jets current palette that is barely included anywhere other than their logo. I have been wanting a Grey Jersey executed almost exactly like this since their reinvention in 2011. This jersey is unlike anything we’ve seen in the NHL before and that’s so fresh and exciting to me. The white balances both darker shades while allowing them each to pop. Most Reverse Retro jerseys were a combination of “New Colours, Old Template” and I think this nails the concept. I understand the appeal of Red/Navy/White but SO MANY franchises use or have used Red/Blue before, it’s nice to see a jersey with a colour palette never before used in the league. Many people thought the Aviator jersey looked boring/bad/awkward at first release and have since changed their tune. I have a feeling there will be a similar trend with this beauty. Honourable Mention - Seattle - Would’ve loved to see some sort of acknowledgement by Seattle of the Metros/their old jerseys, even if it’s just a social media post or something. - I get why they weren’t included as this project started 2 years ago, but I think it could be a good way for Seattle to integrate itself into the league. Who knows, they might bring one in if the league plans on using these jerseys and this idea long term.
anaheim had an amazing RR already. they did the original design but with the orange/black/gold they use now. kind of a shame they were ahead of the curve 😆

I'm ok with it if the Wild go to only forest green and light gold on the striping, but our logo just isn't the same without the red. Also, the North Stars have the same colors as the Green Bay Packers, so specifically those can't be our colors in my opinion. Don't mind it as a retro jersey, though.
As an Islanders fan unfortunately I have to agree with you..they maybe shoulda used the lighthouse... I didn't like the fish sticks jersey when they came out but it has grown on me ...and I may be the only one who likes the Redwing Jersey
Bottom five seems to be pretty consistent from a lot of people. Leafs, red wings, islanders, jets, and stars being the worst but personally I don’t think the jets are that terrible. I think the wild, oilers, and devils are overrated. My personal top 5 is ducks, coyotes, avalanche, kings, and lightning. Some that I think that are underrated are the rangers flames and panthers
Agh, true St. Louis Blues hate that jersey. Red in St. Louis hockey lore is 100% associated with the Old North Division Rival Chicago Blackhawks. Plus the one Wayne wore was a invention of Mike Kennan the most despised coach in St. Louis Blues history. My fav is Colorado/Quebec I have been looking for that jersey since it's release and my #2 Carolina/Whalers I just received that one a week ago. Keep up the great videos!!
I ‘m a Penguins fan and that logo you said you liked we call it robopenguin...people here either love it or hate and I hated it so much! Mario was not a fan of that logo which is most likely why it wasn’t the shoulder patch logo. I think the Jets grey represents the color of a fighter jet, but it was in my bottom 5. Red Wings is a practice Jersey with duct tape. No surprise the Islanders didn’t really do anything, I bet it’s mostly because of the boring old fart Lou Lamoriello. He never did anything with the Devils jersey either. This is a huge opportunity for teams to make money and being part of management I think that would be one of your jobs. I would’ve taken the Fisherman jersey design and put the Lighthouse shoulder patch as the main logo. My goodness Dallas...so much potential!! Did you notice the lettering in Toronto? They’re all capital letters except the N, it’s lower case.TOROnTO..I actually think it’s mAPLE too..lol. I have the kings as my number 1 too, I even pre-ordered one along with Colorado (my 2nd favorite) and I ordered a Whalers one (3rd favorite). Minnesota!..keep that jersey as the main jersey already! Florida and New Jersey are in my top 10, St. Louis and San Jose are a lot lower for me. Columbus jersey looks a little too Capitals for me and no Stinger as the shoulder patch. People need to look at the teams shoulder patches from the 90’s, they were all great!
The one I am really disappointed in is the NJ Devils'. Not only they look like Christmas trees, but also they forgot to give any homage to their ancestors, the Kansas City Scouts. For me they are #31 on my list.
Happy to see how much you like the Blues jersey but i'm personally not a fan of it. I'll still buy it but its weird seeing a mostly red Blues jersey. Still love the original it's based on though
