It's high because of the amount of time and knowledge required. What is deterring grad is the restriction on med school placements because the public and gov don't want to fund them.
There's a limited number of training spaces and they're held artificially low. From high school students to last exam for consultancy. They're creating artificial bottlenecks.
Another way to look at it is the UK actually educates and trains many many overseas students in UK universities, albeit they may pay international student rates, and then we recruit them into the NHS Foundation Programme and then on through their Specialty training...and many of them also move on to other countries as well, once they have had their training provided via the NHS and go on to earn more money elsewhere in the world.
British born Doctors are often found to have less than ideal communication skills, this is the continuing spiral of decline as the NHS loses the woke mob who just wanted to go to University and employs people with a completely different culture.

I am another person who spent years and years studying and perfecting my skills in the fields of science (science as a subject is great) only to quit and realise the moneys garbage, the countries a mess and there are indeed better options in Canada, Japan, USA and Australia. I'll never get back into it and actually recommend young people avoid the science field in the UK altogether until things change. You're better off becoming a RU-vidr, Mortgage adviser, real estate agent or lawyer this day and age. exactly why I scrapped science for criminology.
One minute he is saying its bad to pinch doctors from poorer nations around the world then he is bemoaning the fact we haven't got freedom of movement with the E.U to pinch doctors from them, Since romanians have had the right to work in the rest of the E.U they have lost 50% of their doctors to richer western european nations.
@@flinchus Sir, my point is that ten years ago population trends were determined from data we all supplied. From this the number of Drs, nurses, schools,houses level of tax to pay for increased services etc., we were informed would be determined....that is forward planning. Ergo....the number of students required to train so that today sufficient medical staff would in place in sufficient medical facilities.
Medicine sucks. No one is emigrating to Canada. I live in Canada. We don't have enough doctors and our regulations prevent foreign trained people from coming here, or Canadians from coming back to their country. Prevented me from easily returning to continue medicine training. I'm still in Europe.
Great idea, physically shackle doctors to work here... That will really improve patient care. Doctors are leaving because of poor working conditions, increasingly inferior pay, and an inability of the system to deliver superior care - we are not valued. I believe few people realise how many of my colleagues are currently creating and starting to implement their plan B. Force doctors to stay in the UK and they will leave the profession entirely.
Um, this guy should have got his facts straight before he opened his mouth. NZ and Australian doctors are very highly trained but prefer to follow the money to other parts of the globe. We have the same problem trying to keep our own doctors and nurses. Brits and NZrs generally go to Australia first as they are paid at way higher rates than UK and NZ. Others who emigrate from the UK also want the lifestyle, better weather and stunning scenery provided in Australia and New Zealand. Surprisingly some American doctors come this way too.
It was the government and direction of universities who insisted upon diversity and training up commonwealth and other foreign nationals in preference to ethnically British applicants who created this imbalance.
And uk yours are walking away. As the strike continues because you are not being nice to them but rather being horrific telling them they are emulating people as they have been telling you for years. They need help.
We don’t have enough people in our country as is , we need expansion programme . Unless British people start having more children , which they won’t , the feminists made sure of that we will continue to need foreign labour

And that's why standards have dropped so low in the NHS a British trained doctor is going to be trained to much higher standard than some 3rd world doctor
You do realise that we have been importing NHS employees from overseas for decades and the issue in hand is a shortage of staff? No you wouldn't, because you probably disagree with the current NHS union strikes, don't want to increase the budget for bursary and training of domestic doctors and don't seem to find issue with the host calling you out on why employing foreign doctors is an issue. lol

First of all enlighten me as to how this works legally and practically. If you tell british docs that they can never practise medicine in another country we will have even less med grads.
