The concerto was only known by its violin & guitar version, until it was faithfully orchestrated from the guitar part. The violin part is 100% Paganini.

Incredible performance! All technique aside, which is absolutely superb by the way, he posses a true bel canto in the likes of Ricci! So many technical performances of Paganini exist today good ones, but for me they miss what this has, a bel canto like a true Italian singer! Bravo!

Decennia ago I bought the records played by Salvatore Accardo also because Paganini is my favorite violincomposer. This version of Massimo Quarta is at least equivalent. Enjoyed it!

I agree with you 100%. I just heard his recording of the 1st and 2nd concertos and they are incredibly played from all perspectives - superlative sensitivity and technique that is astonishing. I have heard countless recordings and live performances too - none are better than Massimo's. Pure beauty.... I'm a little embarrassed to say I had never heard him or even heard of him before.

I'm very glad you liked this concert. Ferdinand Ries is a less well-known composer, but he is one of my favorite composers. He has piano concertos, symphonies and chamber music of great beauty. Thank you for your comment.

Do we have orchestral parts of the Paganini concerti that were actually written by the master violinist, or were the orchestral parts written by others at a later time, that is, reconstructions? and how do we know that these concerti, that were 'discovered' in modern times, are authentic?
Some great melody in the first movement, yet it says it is his earliest concerto!? Is it 1. That his youth gave him better melody? Or 2. The classical era had not yet passed from the world, and i believe it was getting weaker by 1840.
Which Paganini violin is this? Is it 'Il Cannone'? I listened to the first CD of the four of which this one is a part on RU-vid and it declares it is rendered on Paganini's 'del Gesu' by Quarta but this disc only states Paganini's violin which is ambiguous. #IlCannone #delGesu
A very fine performance of a concerto of which about 80% may not be by Paganini. In my opinion most of it is fake. Long story.... Monpellio,Paganini's great great grandaughters etc etc. If you ask me nicely,I will state my case!
Jean-François Pigeolet Yes,but very little of the manuscript is in Paganini's own hand. I haven't seen it,but,I strongly suspect that the 1st movement is by Monpellio,and the remainder of the work is recycled,and expanded from an unpublished violin and guitar sonata
It is actually the earliest of Paganini's surviving concertos (before 1815, orchestral part lost). For a long time only a version for violin and guitar was available.
A great performance and recording! I really want to learn this concerto but I cannot find the sheetmusic anywhere (asked local libraries too). Could perhaps someone kindly help me?
i think Nicolo "stole" the melody at 4:40 from a Mozart horn concerto. seems too similar to be a coincidence. not complaining, though. it's a cool concerto. significantly different from the other five in that there's almost no double stops, passages in thirds, sixths, etc. i wish it were played more by top fiddlers. i wonder how difficult it would be to obtain the orchestral parts.
