Two British gentlemen exploring l'art de vivre at the french riviera. What a wonderful combination. It shows that its not money that makes you happy and the best things in life are really free. Thanks for all your videos and keep them coming 👍
Amazing again, Nice should pay you for the advertising. My wife and I were in France for 13 days 5 years ago and now you have us wanting to visit Nice and Villefranche. ❤ Your videos.
Loved this video because the advice is exactly right. You can live cheaply on the Riviera. We establish we’re all the local markets are. We shop like the locals - bouchers, bakers and fromageries. And we cook our own meals. It is always such a great adventure. We come from Canada to escape the winter cold - so off season and not many tourists. It is fabulous. ❤
I’m so jealous of your life so I am spending a wet Sunday in Scotland watching your videos. I was lucky enough to visit the Nice the last 2 years and I cannot wait to come back, have a coffee on me.
Tim and Mr Boo I was lucky enough to see you in Nice today while out walking my dog Bella. You were both so kind to take a photo with me. When I got back home my wife was so sad she missed meeting you in person. We love your video's on RU-vid!
@@MeandMonAmi I WAS sooo disappointed I missed meeting you too as well. We think you're both a "hoot". I told Jeff that I am thinking of giving him a cute name, like "Mr Boo" has, for our channel! Keep up the good work. You're helping us get acclimated to our new home city. All the best! xo An
Thanks for the reminder that the best things in life are free and the designer/luxury brands really not necessary. I told my “boo” that we might not fit in with all that glitz and glamour and would regret being considered lower SES around there. However, you are right that hanging with celebrities etc is not the goal, just being in natural beauty is fantastic!❤❤
Yes, I am sure. Since the area has many people in service to the mega rich, they also have to live somewhere! I have a modest (state) retirement due to me, but better than the average SS income (which is quite low). I wonder where I should look for a rental under $1200/month. Any suggestions? I am also thinking of hiring a consultant, if necessary.
This is very useful. I still remember, last time I was in the Riviera was with my parents (a long time ago) and it was pretty expensive then too. This makes it an option again. Very nice!
Thanks guys !!! You have transported me back to my favourite places Nice and Villefranche Sur mer. I stayed twice 5 an d 6 years ago for ten days each time and also on a budget
Great one! I love the simple walking/talking tours (and the historical/cultural content you used to do) much more than the Ami stuff. Please Keep it up!
Ooooh, ive been to that butchers more than once.. Always remember sitting on the beach in Nice on a cloudy day and not too warm ,eating lunch, when there was a break in the clouds and the sun shone through,5 minutes later the beach was full of locals removing their coats and clobber ,stripping off ,topless and going in for a quick dip...10 minutes later ,they were dressed and leaving the beach....just as the clouds were back.. very amusing 🙂 Thank you for another wonderful vlog ❤
I already understand, it is absolutely not an unpleasant life there and I understand very well why you live there! Always fun to watch with you, keep it up!
Another great very interesting and informative . Thanks once againGentlemen.. just wondered if you would like to do a tutorial on your secretive video glasses ? Hugs from 🇨🇦
I really enjoy Nice more watching your videos then I did when I lived there for four years. You should be paid by the French government for promoting Cote d'Azur!
This popped up in my 'budget' feed. Brilliant! I was along that way in 1983 living off pan bagnets for a few francs a day, fresh tuna then! Memories ❤. Loving the whole channel now 🎉
This really helps 'cause as a fairly newbie and getting settled finally I'm at the same point figuring out where the good stuff can be had. La vie quotidienne.
Hello Tim ,Mr Boo & Twiggy. I agree you can’t beat Twinings. Garry & I are coming out to the Riviera in July I’ll make sure we pack some Twinings Breakfast teabags for you lol. Great video as always. 😃👍🏻🍷
“A day in the life”…..I think there’s a song there 😉 Strewth…toilet unblocking, light bulb replacements and deliveries, Mr Boo knows how to have a good start to the day 🤣 super blog guys, thanks for the enjoyable Sunday evening entertainment and have to agree, Twinning tea bags are super
Greeting from Australia! thank you for your videos - I love them all and I especially love the stories you tell of the people, villas and history of the places you visit, sooo interesting! My faves are the Gordon Bennett and Eileen Gray stories, fascinating!!
Great video guys. Here on the west coast of Scotland really beautiful but haven't seen the sun for any length for a few months now . The cape walk was one of the most beautiful I've ever taken. Nice to get a nosey into your lifestyle.
Always look forward to Sunday evenings watching you two, Tim I like the new titles/text graphics you are using, are they an addon to lumafusion as I haven’t noticed them in the titles section?
It's -3 here where I am in Finland and the snow is back. It's been a week with positive degrees and the snow melted away but now it's back again. I am a bit jelly of that beach, that sounds a lot nicer than here. The trendy bars I don't care for, give me a cheap pub with a decent beer and I'm happy.
Omg I thought for a moment Mr Boo was a French property magnate! Seriously that was great, like most cities folks are quick to find cheaper ways to exist and you 2 are doing it perfectly. Love the beach part, looked gorgeous for an hour or 2 to finish the day off. Thanks lads (and Twiggs) x
Interesting to see how your daily life is down in the south... up here in the Paris region I am with you when it comes to feeling guilty spending too much time video editing/socal media-ing. I tend to fit it in when I can, but editing can get addicitive. My aim is always to try and get something out once a week. But with two teenagers and a house to sort out, it doesn't always happen. At the weekend I teach English on Saturdays, then Monday evening. I have Tuesday evening set aside for teaching - but haven't got anyone on that day. Pre pandemic it was 1O students a week. These days somewhat less! Wednesday the kids are home, so I have to cook for them. Thursday morning its Lidl to do the weekly shopping. Us 4 are linked on Google Tasks, so that makes life easier managing food and the shopping list. In the afternoon it is lesson planning. Leaving Friday to do things I've not had time to do. Like Mr Boo we have some property to manage - well, ONE place... But it has been a bit drawn out. We're considering the rental route, but I wonder if Air BnB might be a good idea... That's another story! Bonne semaine à vous deux!
@@MeandMonAmi I'm currently planning my lessons for Saturday (as I speak Thursday afternoon). Thought I'd have time to get something else done after, but I still haven't finished. Grrr...
Thanks for the great boots on the ground day out, next best thing to being there! Btw, at 15:00 were we seeing through you news Specs Tim, and is there some bonus content coming with them?
@@MeandMonAmi LOL, I can only imagine... Years ago I was arrested and nearly charged with public pornography and wiretapping while shooting a documentary about Portland's homeless problem, and captured Portland Police brutally strip-search a man naked in public. Technically, in places Like Portland, using Zuck's RayBan's could land you with a felony charge. One might want to delve into local the laws, about surreptitious recording.
I now have Lidl envy yours is massive compared to mine in Bishop Auckland, although I did get a twirly thing to go on my pressure washer last week.😃Ps. I buy Italian tea from a French company but they fit a coffee machine.
We usually stay just up the road from Chez Felix so we’ll be indulging in their pain bagnat in May. Totally love the gardens on the Promenade du Paillon. Lidl looks a lot better than in the UK ! On the beach in March definitely gets my vote.
Excellent episode, I really enjoyed watching your daily routine and how the places that are thought to be the most expensive aren't always the case. With good choices and knowing where to buy cheaper but quality items, you can live within a budget that isn't always so high, Lidl is one of the best places to buy things at a good price and with quality. Here in Portugal, there are many, and they are always one of the best options compared to other more expensive places.
What a lovely day out! Did you swim twice? Or is this a compilation of several days? Looks terrific. The quality of the footage from your new camera is excellent too. A sound investment.
@@MeandMonAmi We were last there in Oct 2022, so if it was remodeled we have something to look forward to, lol. We return later this year and need to know the specific British tea you drink. We will bring you supply. Maybe we can do lunch. My hubby and I have been coming to your neck of the woods since 1983. Keep in mind in would be import to the U.S. but still British. Until they started selling it here, from 1982 until around 2000 I paid my friend in Windsor to send me Tetley tea. Tetley is all I have drunk since my first trip to UK in 1981. Seriously what is your tea preference? Is there any way to send a private message? We will stay 7 nights in your area...probably 3 nights at one hotel and 4 at another. We have stayed pretty much everywhere in the 'French Riviera' but the area feels like home. Merci as always in advance.
I was so happy to see you sitting on the same park bench my husband and I shared just a few months ago while on vacation. We got cappuccino across the street (very close to the places you showed). On a separate note- see if your Asian market sells Silver Swan soy sauce. The owner of my local shop recommended it, and I'll never go back to Kikkoman again!
Oh, and another thought: although I don't own an air fryer, I have read that a lot of people use parchment liners in theirs. Saves on clean and prevents wear and tear on the finish. Just thought I'd mention that, because of your comment about the sponges!
another great video,Tim and Mr boo,as always,.we're was that emporium shop, would like to visit there, when we come, over on the 3rd of Apr.and if we see you would like to take you both for a drink.
Thanks Tim and Mr Boo.Really enjoyed this week's vlog. We are staying in our apartment at the port for a month this May. Can you confirm where the Troc is located in Nice . I cannot find it in the links below.
Ah, that's the life. Simple, honest, sunny and with sand between the toes and other places more annoying. Aldi and Lidl seem to be an all-or-nothing kind of stores with the goodies aisle. Not a bad life at all, and far from the misery of UK drab days and hassles.
What a difference to your stay in Paris 🤣 Good to see that you still had a few Euros left for a pain bagnat and a bit of shopping... 👍 and see you next weekend
Wow...that was fabulous Tim and Mr. Boo! I could certainly live on those scrummy sarnie Pan Baquette ! You had me laughing when you yelled, "non, we need parking electrique! " Then promptly drove by and went elsewhere! LOL! Kept on laughing when you said "...remember pepperami's? I liked scampi fries except they made your wee smell!" ...Mr. Boo squeezes farty toy..." oh you can get that at home, eh Mr. Boo" LOL! ...then you encountered rustling in the bushes...very disconcerting...the man in the bushes....LOL! ...truly, this was one of the funniest videos you two have produced! ...BTW, Were you wearing the boots and gloves at the beach because the water was so cold? Thank you for the laugh, gentlemen...you made my Sunday as usual! 😘
Very interesting but I was hoping you might dwell a bit more on the prices so one could compare. You did in Lidl but the prices were much the same as here, escargots excepted! Nowadays when they have French week, there's hardly anything and it's pretty expensive whereas Italian is so massive it lasts 2 weeks. The surprise was to hear that it's free to go on the beach. Where in Nice is that? Always thought it was all privatised and very expensive. The only place we ever found free was Menton and that was going back some years
Very interesting video. I can't believe you are swimming in the Med in March. I am intrigued with the gloves and the shoes. Why do you need them? water is still too cold? or Jellyfish? Thanks
It’s still very cold and I like to do 20 minutes at least. Even then I was pretty cold ten minutes after getting out. Up to Xmas I swim without wetsuit but Jan through April it’s hard to do very long
Just want to say that I really enjoy U2 you’re almost like family now my wife and I get up every Sunday morning and spend Sunday with the fillers in Nice .cappuccino and croissants but I must warn you the Dag steals the show i❤Bob Hope used to say never follow a dog 🤣😂🤣
As a cheap charly myself, I am a little bit disappointed, that you didn't mention the free water stations at the port and near the airport (and some other spots), where you can fill up your water bottle (with mineral water) for free. Would set you back 0.50 EUR per bottle, so really, dont miss out on this money saving initiative, especially in the summer.
Bonsoir mes amis dEspagne. It's rather a long way for us. Would love to have a decent butcher's, but we have to make do with what a supermarket offers and that ain't a lot. Happy St Paddy's day.
This was wonderful! Question however, it looked like the beach you were on was actual sand, was that in Nice or Villefranche? I've only known the beach in VF to be tiny pebbles?
We are going to spend some of the winter months is Nice. Can you tell me where the Lidl market you go to is located? Btw, we'd love to take you out for coffee or lunch while we are in nice (January, 2025-April 2025.)
I can confirm Dewsbury Sports Centre is shut down. There were some gypsies in the car park the other day. The entire place is now full of rubbish. I wish I was in Nice.
you sod! now I'm thinking I need to up my milk game for when I bash out cold brew (yes, sous vide) If I may, Aldi uk.at least do a.very good strong "gold" tea, which is on par with what I used to buy from mr waitrose, you may wish to ask someone coming out to purloin some or keep an eye out in case it is duplicated in other countries offerings, ..of course Mr Boo will have to stay outside if he's caught wearing his lidl logo emblazoned tracksuit there'll be hell to pay!
THE CROWDS AND CHEAP SHOPS IN EZE HAVE COMPLETELY PUT ME OFF. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THE COAST. RATHER I SEEK THE SMALL VILLAGES IINSIDE FRANCE OR ITALY WITHOUT THE FRENETIC DESPERATION JUST TO WALK AROUND, ETC.
in Britain, the price you see is what you pay, When I went to Florida, the price ($1.99) was not what you paid as they added on local taxes at the checkout. In France, if it says 1.99 euros on the shelf is that price you pay or do they add taxes on at the checkout?
@@alejandrayalanbowman367 They're Bose 35, pretty expensive at the time of purchase. But I suppose a little ignorant assumption and a touch of racism goes a long way. I guess if you don't have stereo you wouldn't know the difference.
