Ah. Fliegers. Excellent watches. I need to take mine in for a service. Maybe more than most watches, a flieger really shows you the difference between meh-quality and high quality parts. A good one with proper lume will let you tell the time the entire night - and mean you don't need glasses to use it. Nice work as always, Tim. Stay safe.
That’s a champion dial colour. I also like the way they’ve gone with an 18mm strap width, which gives it a bit of the look of an ur-B-Uhr in spite of its manageable size.
Very nice ... I do like the B. Please do a full review. Would like to see how it looks on wrist size wise. I did not see the link in the upper right corner for video on the original 1944?
I'm with you, I much prefer the B dial on a Flieger. And I find them to be very usable as a daily watch (since often times the minutes are the more important datapoint in day to day use). These new Lacos are pretty nice looking and reasonably priced for an "original" Flieger maker.
Glad Laco has these in a 39mm. A great compromise of function and fashion. I’ve worn an original Fliegler, and it was an interesting feeing having that huge dial shifting on my wrist. Well done Laco! 👍
Please do try to get these in I know you do not have a large wrist and I myself have a very small one so I would love to see a rough idea of how these fit on smaller wrists. I have my heart set on the Laco Aachen 39mm in blue and I will buy this watch if I ever visit Germany, which I plan to do as I have some streamer friends who live in Bavaria. That plus I am very interested in German history.
Glad to hear they've made a couple of models for those of us with small wrists! The olive dial sounds interesting and the case looks great as long as the finish is durable.
Love Laco and was eyeing Aachen Blau for a long time but could not bring myself to spend 340 euro for a Miyota 821A. For that price I am expecting a 9000 series. Had watches with the 8000 series in the past and they where ok but the price for this limited series and the regular ones does not justify the use (imo).
@@Visitor555 by no chinese I'm guessing you also mean all microbrands are out of the question since they are all produced in... well China. I'm waiting....
Yes, to a review of these, when they are in your possession, as it is difficult to judge the faux-vintage finish quality, from promo photos alone. And why not, for the price, a Miyota 9000 series? Or is 8000 perfectly acceptable? Thanks 💫
Love it. Have a "normal" Laco B, would love an urbstook (sorry for butchering your language but you know what I mean) & this seems a good cheaper alternative - will look into them, thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
The simplicity of a Type A B-Uhr has a heap of masculine charm. Coincidentally, mine has been on my wrist all day, and for the first time in months . I'm not big on bronze but a great piece nonetheless. 👌🏼
Looks nice, great company, authentic, so why a myota 8? Wrong movement is a no from me. I have a better movement than that in my SM for 1/3 the price. As always, great review!
Hey there's a suggestion: Miyota 8000 and 9000 are pervasive. My uninformed impression is that 9000 is better, but, here, you were distinguishing between the quality of different 8000 series. Maybe a video about these different Miyota calibres and what to know... Thanks
I like Laco design. I bought Mülheim an der Ruhr in 2020 with ETA movement. I sent it back for service 2 months later because of terrible time keeping tolerance. It's better since the service but it is still 7-8 minutes a month of tolerance. Is this a normal thing with ETA?
I don't have a problem with the Miyota 821A as a movement but not at this price. In the past watch cases were of alloys and plated and would age like this. Now people hate alloy/plated watch cases so they take SS and age it. Strange.
Good point Jim, though the problem with the older alloys when the plating wears away for many people is nickel allergies which can play havoc with your skin. I had the problem myself with a very quirky Swiss watch I once owned, loved it but couldn't wear it.
I love pilot watches, I own several .I wish Laco offered a better movement on their affordable watches. brands like Laco,Stowa,Seiko, Tissot etc...should offer more value watches for the money, a brand with heritage begins to many people to be not that interesting if you count what for specs you get,for example you can buy a beautifully made pilot watch from China ,with same design (homage) for a much less price then a German or Swiss made watch.I am talking about the affordable models only off course.
Obviously a genuine Swiss or German made watch can't compete on price with a Chinese homage. Sounds like you'd better stick with chinese watch brands if you want 'the specification for the price'
@@IDKline completely agree, trouble is there's so many people making comments like you describe these days. They're the flip side of the coin to watch snobs, one lot hates cheap watches, the other lot hates anything vaguely expensive!
I see some people don't like the Miyota movement on this one. I've got the 39mm Augsburg and it is more accurate than my Seiko Alpinist or my Direnzo, which both have "better" movements. This is probably because Laco regulates the Miyota. Also, the Lume is very good.
Hi, Tim: Also with Flieger watches happens that if you see one you've seen them all: they have to follow the design rules. How to differentiate them then? IMHO, one way is that the 5 historical brands (Laco, Stowa, Wempe, IWC, Lange) put their logos on the dials so they can stand out from hundreds of cheap copies and "homages" (fancy word for plagiarism). Why should these German companies give up their history and well-earned name? Very good video. Regards from Chile!
@@IDKline Why buy a respectable brand watch and not want it to be known? That is so strange to me. As if when buying a good car one asked that all its badges be removed first. Curious thing indeed.
Augsburg and Aachen where bombed several times between 1942 and 44... I get why people like flieger watches as a design, but I cant help but think of bombings when I see a B-Uhr with this name :D
(440 EUR is roughly 500 USD, not 400, just to let you know.) Also, I would love to see one of these in your studio! I've been wanting one for a long time but haven't gotten one due to the large 42mm size, which is too big for my small wrist. Always love your videos! Thanks for your content.
Tried to buy a Laco Augsburg back in 2019 in Augsburg when we visited the wonderful Christmas Market, before the madness began. But the local seller didn't have one. But this model with a Miyota, no thanks. You can get a Miyota or Seiko NH35 based pilot watch for $150, or even less if you get one of the well known Chinese ones. It's only for the brand name and it's a ripoff.
If you sink your plane in the water, ie. in a see or in the ocean, believe me, that water resistance of your watch is the least problem you should think of in this situation. These are pilot watches, not divers, and there is little water up in the sky.
I want to see basic miyota everyday!!! I dont understand stupidity of SNOBS downgrading enjoyment of seeing the movement even if its not HIGH end. Thats Snobbish! If you have LOVE for mechanical watches you will love to see the movement no matter what tier it is.
