Excellent analysis. One thing to keep in mind with Nick’s sentence is that he was offered a deal that would have reduced the charge to second degree murder and allowed for shorter sentence and possible parole. He refused it. Gypsy took the deal offered to her. And I watched her testimony in Nick’s trial. She took responsibility for every decision and action that was hers in the planning and murder. I think what scares me most about Nick is his ability to commit the murder but his complete lack of insight into what he did.
Had no idea. Someone gave him very bad advice. Always felt bad in that although he knew what he was doing, do think Gypsy did manipulate him...However, he is bit scary in that do think he could be manipulated by others as well. Especially if they work the angle of him doing the right thing to save another. The weird thing, he's almost like "The Grapes of Wrath" (think I have right story?), where "Lenny" (?) does things for the good reason, but it's still killing. (SO long that I've read story... if even remembering correctly🤷♀️
It's important to note that many psychiatrists now dispute the existence of MPD or Dissociative Identity Disorder, as defined in the DSM (ie, that the sufferer must have bouts of amnesia, etc). Not exactly a point in his favour but it's diagnosed very rarely now . Gypsy and Nick certainly seemed to be in a folie a deux at the time but . . . that's a whole other rabbit hole. 😦
I think he was manipulated by Gypsy, but also that he wanted to help her. The whole situation is desperately sad; I feel sorry for everyone in this drama, including Dee-dee. I don’t think Nicholas deserved life without parole. That is extremely harsh, under the circumstances.
Thank you very much for this analysis 🌷 Could you please talk about the case of Joshua Phillip's murder? He murdered his neighbor Maddie Clifton when he was only 14 years old in a horrific way
No, she did not manipulate Nick. She told him nothing but _truth._ She was just desperate to escape from her evil mom, and she truly couldn't handle the realistic vision of blood and stabbing. Besides, Nick could've simply refused. He couldn't have been _that_ ignorant. I think a part of him is (or was) evil for the following reasons: 1. he murdered Dee Dee (even though his motives are totally understandable), 2. he was going to rape Dee Dee's body (and necrophilia proves he's mental). 3. he raped Gypsy, as the only other option to leave Dee Dee's corpse alone (in fact, I once read he was too rough on Gypsy during their sex). 4. he told Gypsy Victor might harm her too if she entered the bedroom, but I thought he was in _love_ with the girl he wanted to _care for._ 5. he told Gypsy to be n@ked that night, which is very indecent and ungentlemanly of him. 6. he told his detective interviewer some lies and pleaded not guilty for his obvious crime. Except for reason 1, I want to hear rebuttals and justifications for Nick. Good luck arguing against me and for him.
Brain and beyond, please know I haven't forgotten about my promised response to you. I'm sorry, I got a little overwhelmed and occupied lately because... I bought a home! Ok so, yes, it's a mobile home but I've never owned anything like that before. it's all very very overwhelming, but in a good way... but nonetheless overwhelming. and stress is very physically (and emotionally and mentally) exhausting to me. We humans, we underestimate stress...
Hi Sarah - Oh how exciting, that's awesome. Yes, life has a way of keep-on-happening! I imagine it is all very time consuming, exciting (and stressful). Congrats on getting your home - job WELL DONE. :) ~ Jo
Hey Doc!!! How about doing ELIZABETH HOLMES??? By the way, this was very well done. Nick just isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer...no offense to him. It is what it is.
I can't help but think Gypsy Rose learned how to manipulate people from her mother...don't get me wrong Deedee did no deserve to be murdered...but she was a big manipulator and did so to many people...I can't help but think this was a perfect storm situation and would not have happened if they had never meet...
I felt like this was one of my Forensic Psych lectures...in a good way. I've literally watched everything you could watch on this case. I feel like they were two people that should have never met. I don't think this would have happened. My heart breaks for all the abuse Gypsy took but also for the manipulation of her bf. It is so baffelling that social services/doctors never caught on any of the abuse. I'm not sure this would have happened in the UK.
It wouldn't in NZ. No doctor would order any treatment, drugs or surgery without having the patients full medical records, and no medical centre will take us on as patients until out medical records arrive from our previous doctor and medical centre. They would also want to do their own tests and confirm any previous diagnosis. These doctors in this case were all negligent.
