Part 5: • Nicholas Irving on Tur...
Part 7: • Nicholas Irving on 70%...
Part 1: • Sniper Nicholas Irving...
--------
In this clip, Shawn Prez started off asking Nicholas Irving about disassociating from the killing that he did in the Army, and he asked if killers are made in the Army. Nicholas explained that he feels like he was “born” killer, although he hadn’t experienced it yet, and he added that all the training goes out the window when you’re being shot at. Nicholas added that killing is more addictive than any drug in existence, and Shawn Prez asked if the thrill of the kill entices soldiers. Nicholas said it’s no different than the thrill of hunting, and he added that the soldiers that he went in with are different people now. Nicholas went on to speak about facing his demons after leaving the Army, and he added that they would take 2 to 3 days to drink and party to forget everything.

War changed me too. I got out in 2017 after doing 12 as an 11B and 13b. I turned to alcohol lost my family hit rock bottom. I have a career and I’m a 100 percent disabled vet so I’m ok with money and a roof. But sex and liquor were my coping mechanisms. Starting to finally get my head above water mentally and emotionally and it’s tough.

There was a neurological study done years ago with 2 sets of subjects. One were murderers and serial killers currently in prison and the other were ex-military that have several confirmed kills. The study took a chemical sample and scan of the subjects along with verbal interviews. What was interesting beyond the verbal interviews is that the chemical brain makeup and scans of both test groups were pretty much identical. There are individuals with a natural aptitude for taking a life and then there are those that can be developed into gaining the aptitude for taking a life. One thing is for sure based on that study. Like an athlete or woodworker or a mechanic, taking a life could be and can become an art or skill for certain people. "Clouds are just winds passing in front of the sun. The sun will shine again. It's so crazy, because it got to the point to where I didn't want to come back to the states. Some people will say that you never get used to that, but actually you do. Lack of sleep, outside the wire everyday, bullets firing over your head, mortars in the distance, IED's up ahead. That becomes your life in the sandbox. Instinctive, never scared because you know what to do if aggressed. I even got to the point where I didn't believe in God. I use to tell people, my 9 on my hip and my M4 is what's going to get me home!
