I'm in Scotland and I can confirm that we are not in England. Maybe Esme should get her bingo marker out and draw a line between us to be sure if it worries her?
The Sun tabloid has massively different headlines and propaganda to The Scottish Sun. So many problems created to divide and rule us by the most vile filth we’ve known since 1945. I feel like apologising to everyone in the EU and Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish people. Those in power have taken our human evolution backwards for disgusting reasons. I’d not blame you of you wanted away from us. I want away from us mate!
Brian reminds me of the the old retired people in my neighborhood that have nothing to live for anymore so all they have left is to go out with a speed cam, complain to the town that 7 out of 10 cars drive 5 kph too fast on the road in front of their homes and then contact the newspaper to write a story about it just so their fading voices will be heard one last time.
“ we are not stupid and we don’t need experts to tell us what to do”!! “ Who do you listen to for advice” “ Nigel Farage, sat in the EU and he knows what’s going on” No one gets the unintentional satire.
I’ve only just discovered Nick Abbot and I have to say , I love this guy. I like James O’Brien and his politics but I can’t stand how he tries to be a sympathizer with these brexit voters. It’s like he’s their mother and they’ve just scraped their knee. “Oh you poor dear you were duped I feel for your troubles you were lied to, blah blah blah” at some point you have to blame and ridicule the people who keep voting for these fools and liars and this guy is so refreshing. This is what the left needs more people like Nick Abbot to lay down the truth and not pull their punches while doing it. Bravo Nick!!
I sympathize but do not agree with you. That way more polarization lies. Social media echo chambers are already causing massive polarization - we could use some more careful consideration.
I couldn't agree more with Jan Cloosterman, your way of interaction only leads to more polarization. The people who voted for Brexit or to talk in more general terms people who lack epistemological tools, are not evil they just don't know they are doing somethng wrong and they need help realizing it. Please don't misunderstand this as anyone saying that ridicule is not a useful tool, but ridiculing each brexiteer is not helpful, what's helpful is ridiculing the likes of Farage. In other words don't fall prey to the same mistake they are making, kicking down instead of punching up.
I've listened to both Abbot and O'Brien at this point and would say there's room for both but it comes down to tact and execution. One thing about movements like Brexit - at least from what I've seen - is that they rely on emphasizing anti-intellectual precepts, replacing them with five dollar words like "hard work" and "independence". They teach that compassion like O'Brien's is a weakness. And if you do reach them with compassion, oftentimes those same people will just find someone else to blame for their mistakes because its what they've been taught. So for people on the fence, sure compassion and careful consideration can work. Abbot meanwhile provides in some way, a form of catharsis to listeners and accountability to the callers. It's likely many of these people will never see the errors of their ways unless they are directly affected by actions that can only be as a result of Brexit so to have them publicly pilloried like this sometimes goes some way as to holding them accountable. Especially when the only response many of them have is to throw temper tantrums on public radio. As to the whole social media echo chambers thing, sure, they are causing polarization. But echo chambers don't work without echoes. So whose echoes are in the chamber?
@@eleSDSU Your way has given you only 10 years of a Labour government in the last 40 . Clearly you are doing something catastrophically wrong and the Nigel Farages of this world are doing something right. Handholding isn't a proactive strategy and if you continue to take the route of framing this as an "epistemological struggle" you will continue to lose. The Left needs to once again campaign in the language of the street instead of the language of the effete sympathetic savior. Whether you like it or not public ridicule and shame works. Confrontation denotes strength in the lizard brain and the Right understands this better than the Left. That is why the Tories are succeeding from failure to failure while the Left is still scratching it's head as to why people continually are falling for it. You can proceed as you like but I chose to stop doing the same thing over and over again hoping that this time, maybe this time, it will succeed. The results speak for themselves.
I only found out about this radio program a week or so ago. Nick is far ruder (and meaner.. ) then O'Brain, and he also get a lot of drunk dumb mental cases. It's pure gold !
This man is a legend, he is funny, intelligent, insightful and has the type of voice that can wake you up and help you too sleep GOD BLESS BRIAN IN STOCKTON ON TEES 🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣
You are right Nick. One of the fundamental reasons and motivations for rich Brexiteers was to avoid new anti-tax-elusion that the EU intended to enact; I believe already in April 2019 (J Rees-Mogg is a supporter of tax havens) .
"Scotland is not in England, and the UK is not a country." 😅 I love Nick. How he doesn't have his calls video taped like James O'Brian I'll never know!
Unlike the other presenters, Nick sits in the producers area so he can run the sound effects. The cameras are only set up in the presenters studio. Also, Nick doesn't want to be videoed. Try finding a recent photo of him!
He was well paid to represent the UK fisheries industry. It was his job to sit on that specific committee but his attendance was the joint worse of any MEP. What was he doing when not doing his job for 21 years? We want our money back
It would be unfair to inflict him on another country however he did say that if Brexit goes tits up he would leave the UK. Afghanistan would be perfect for him
I usually can't bear to listen to Brexiters but this was really entertaining. Nick deserves a sainthood for enduring an endless stream of verbal diarrhea.
@@spitfiremark1a768 your posts make that abundantly clear. Now, stop yawning and enjoy your apparent "win". If only your side would be happy but you never are. Let it bring you joy.
Whenever Stockton-on-Tes comes up you can hear Nick's thoughts trough his voice. It is like: Oh, no, Stockton! Say bye-bye to all human sense in 3...2...1...".
@@beepbopboop7727 I realise that, but it's obvious she's ill educated and perhaps drunk too, so imo one doesn't really go for those sorts of people. Let them babble a bit, and get them off the line asap (diplomatically). Waste of time otherwise.
Don't count on it. They will blame the EU, which is a horrible organisation if you're not in it. They're already doing it, claiming the EU is suddenly introducing all these "new" rules, just to bully the poor British. They will use the fact that the EU is a lot friendlier if you're in it as proof that it was a good idea to leave it. Brexit logic. Impossible to argue with.
All the gammons I know, and I know to many, are still blaming the EU. Oh, and Tony Blair. It’s unbelievable, these people live in a permanent state cognitive dissonance.
It won't help you but it is not more brilliant in other countries... shame on the lack of education fabricated on purpose for some decades now plus the murdock press
Nick: are you talking about that thing on Sky? Caller: no. On at dinner time at quarter past twelve. It’s hard to believe they can tie their own shoelaces.
The Barbara lady asked the question Britons have failed to ask for about 200 years: If we live in the largest empire of modern days - where does all the money that keeps rolling in go to, because it sure isn't ending up in my wallet. But patriotic Britons never ask that question and if they do, their "newspapers" have always had the perfect answer: You're poor because of France, Germany, the continent or whatnot. Not, by any means, because we have an utterly broken class-based system where the hobnobs can't handle money. And Brexit is returning you to that very system that will - oh the miracle - stop being broken all of a sudden and make everyone's life happy ... and provide fish for all ...
Anyone listen just for Brian? Is he real or a good act? What say you. He is the archetype Brexiteer and I love listening to his calls. -'Stockton on Tees...oh God'.
It sure was. She reminds me of my mom, doesn't know any of the facts but basically _"The 70s were so much better because I was young, disco was cool and we had the Deutsche Mark"_ Boy, if we had a similar Brexit vote now here in Germany I guarantee boomers like my mom would vote leave, make the same stupid, unsupported claims and win because less and less young people actually go out to vote.
Some people believe these people are hand picked for their ignorance. This when it’s known that no picking was necessary because we have encountered them in the real world. Nigel Farage told them to be stupid and it’s the other sides fault for not convincing them that it wasn’t true even though they did.
We will stop giving all that money to the EU said Brian. In 2018 Britain spent approximately £859 Billion to run the country approximately £8,4 Billion of that went to the EU , £8,4 Billion is a lot of cash yet out of £859 Billion is it an extremely large amount ?
I think we need a levelet Depo over our great country explaining what the brexit means to the people of the country because it appears no one had a clue what was going to happen such was the faith in Boris Johnson’s word
David rings in and says everybody should pay the same percentage of tax , which means the highest earners will contribute the highest amount, i can think it’s unfair to expect a high earner to pay a larger percentage because he/she has the good fortune to pick up a bigger wage than others, i can also think is it fair that someone receives more cash than they can spend and not contribute much more towards making the life of their fellow human beings a bit better ?
