Each of the Stones' had their own persona but thru their TV and video years, he was the only one that looked like he was actually enjoying life! Brian had earlier bought a Bible which he read, it was rescued from a burning bonfire the morning after he died by Brian's gardener, I have always found this story rather moving and Godsend...

This is true, it was Keylock the stones driver aka minder who started the bon fire, Mary Hallett was Brian's neighbor who was the grounds keeper at Cotchford Farm and Brian said he would only buy Cotchford if she could stay on as the grounds keeper. She had lost a son in 68 in a motorcycle accident and she considered Brian like a son.

Brian may not be known by the masses, who don't care about anything more than whether or not they like a given song. Not everyone is a student of this stuff like some of us are. The people who don't know Brian Jones are the same people whose eyes glaze over when you ask them the names of The Beatles. I disagree totally disagree completely with video's assertion that there was no murder that took place. Clearly not enough study to that angle.

You'd be surprised. Even when his own daughter Barbara was told who her father was she had to Google him cos she's heard of Mick and Keith but not Brian. Listen to her interview. Or read it. And she plays a few instruments just like Brian. I asked a guitarist who was about 10 years younger than me. He was the lead singer and guitarist in a covers band. I asked him what d'ya think of Brian Jones. To my amazement He replied " Who the fuck is Brian Jones?" 😮

The difference between Brian and Mick was Brian's family was not supported and Mick's family was, it's easy for those who haven't been there but when that starts at a young age it confirms to the individual that they have little value and as much as you might believe it's not true when put under stress the confusion in your head tends to regurgitate the message that you are no good and undeserving of what you have accomplished it inserts a false sense of no value that seems impossible to shake, it's hard to be great when the deep rooted message in your head says different, you can't become a champion if you don't firmly believe you are better than anyone else, there can be no doubt. Parents can either destroy their children or turn them into exceptional human beings, that's what happened to Brian and why he thought his material was never good enough because of the seeds his folks planted in his brain, if someone doesn't believe they are worth it why should anyone else believe in them..

I would bet that this insecurity was hammered home to Brian when his younger sister Pamela died. I would bet his parent's grief left him feeling that he could never compare to her - that his survival meant nothing. When he pulled up out of that to create a working band only to be superceded by his mates - well, there's the trauma all over again, the feeling that he didn't matter and wasn't good enough.

I always wondered how Andrew decided on Mick and Keith as the writers, did Andrew just not like Brian, or was Brian open about the fact that he really didn’t want to write?….
@SteenGrode
@SteenGrode 4 месяца назад
It is not easy to write and basically Brian never learned to. He could add somethings to a song, but he couldn't create something that was worth anything. Keith was able to figure out how to create songs and he tried to work with both Mick and Brian but just one of those was able to develop skills.
@twistedspanner
@twistedspanner 3 месяца назад
@@SteenGrodeBrian could write songs and he also recorded them with the crem de la crem musicians of the day. ALA Jimmy Page. Kenney Jones. Nicky Hopkins. Etc.. Many Stones fans think Brian was too stuck in the Blues while the band became a pop band Brian lost interest.But the songs he wrote for the movie soundtrack 'A Degree of Murder' shows how versatile a songwriter he was. It features a varied style of Blues. Pop. Rock. Bluegrass. Psychedelia etc.and to top it off he could play many instruments which was crucial in the bands early Jagger & Richards original hit singles. His multi instrumentation is all over their classic 1967 psychedelic masterpiece 'Their Satanic Majesties Requests' album which goes to show he wasn't a one trick pony only into the blues. After TSMR the Stones went back to their Blues roots but sadly Brian seemed to lose interest and there's very little contribution by him on the following albums. 'Beggars Banquet' and 'Let it Bleed'

Looking forward to seeing this and glad Nick is making sure that Brian Jones is not gonna be the forgotten hero of the Rolling Stones. Which sadly does seem to be the case amongst the younger generation of music lovers in record land. No not the legions of fans on here who still love and try and keep Brian Jones' name alive but sadly, I've encountered it myself. Many people don't know who he is. While many Rolling Stones fans still think Brian couldn't write songs which is also untrue. Here's a rough mix cover version of one of Brian Jones' own compositions by The Damned's keyboardist Monty Oxymoron. Taken from the forthcoming coming Brian Jones Tribute Album. Yes, I get it. Brian was great, talented, the founder and initial impetus for the Stones. But like many founders, his vision only went so far. The Stones are great because of all the contributions to the band from the Beatles who helped them early on with music, introduced them to their first real management and became the perfect foil, with their clean cut image. Andrew Oldham encouraged M & K to write their own music, Alex Korner gave them a place to play, John Mayhall introduced them to Mick Taylor. The Small Faces gave up Ronnie. All the wonderful contributions by their great side musicians, not limited to; Bobby Keys, Nicky Hopkins, Ry Cooder, Graham Parsons, Mary Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Ian McLagin, Charles Leavell, Daryl Jones, Steve Jordan, and many more amazing contributors. All the influencers and hangers-on, from the tax man to the police who hounded them, the hated Allen Klein, not to mention Brian, Mick, Keith, Bill, Charlie, Ian Stewart, Mick T and Ronnie themselves. What about all the wonderful musical producers and engineers like Glyn Johns, the fantastic Jimmy Miller, Steve Lillywhite, Don Was, Andrew Watts and of course, the Glimmer Twins. Also, the Stones started due to their love of Blues music which drove the mod scene in London, where by chance they all lived. The list of musical contributors is enormous and includes, the London Mod scene, Chuck Berry, Howlin Wolf, the Kinks, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, other 60’s, 70’s and 80’s bands to name a few. My point, is that yes Brian was the spark, named them and initially was the leader, but stopped being so around 1966 (57 years ago). He declined due to drug use, then was kicked out of the band. The Stones went on to create an unequaled subsequent run, of four of the greatest albums of all time - without Brian. Whether or not you like the direction of the band post Brian is up to you, but the remaining members and all the influences I mentioned above make them relevant today - the greatest rock band of all time. Thank you Brian for your contributions and wonderful work, but no one person defines The Rolling Stones.

I saw an interview with Ian Stewart the piano player for the stones and one of the original members, and when he was asked about Bryan's problem with Jagger and Richards, he said that Bryan Jones couldn't write a song to save his life, so what did he want the stones to do, carry on playing covers, obviously not.

Keith Richards admits in his book he does not know how to read or write music. It was Jones that wrote the lyrics as well as the music to most Stones classics. Jagger/Richards is a farce for the most part. They almost never charted nearly as well, and then only here and there over the rest of their career's. The level of musical sophistication is self evident then.

Jones actually was very talented and made musical contribution to the first 3 or so album which r sum of the best which r sum of the best. Funky sound that jones was going for..his idea for making the inital quirky sounds which i love..jagger was a little threatened by jones talent in my opinion early on and just had a lucky break cuz jones was stoning out on drugs which gave mick the upper hand of course.. Its was jones band then sadly he passed only to let mick take over..we will never know what talent he could added to the greatest band..

@@allisonwalker-ge1ww thank you for your well thought out, sensible response. I agree with you on all of those points (my father felt exactly the same and was generation 'S'!!!... It can never be taken away from him that he started the group and I can hear I. my mind all those great leads and effects (say little red rooster). It's no mistake to say the guy had a large hand in the fact we now have this huge rock industry within.one band and a great back catalogue. In expanding my sentiments IL suggest that Jagger and Richards could see where they could take it by about 65 and had a bent for writing songs and presumably the friendly characteristics to work supportively in terms of risky exploration wheras Jones was apparently not as nice as he came across and capitulated at the crucial moment and became a liability through personal condition and travel issues. The other two had a coolness about them through their trials in the 60s and survived wheras Jones didn't in my opinion and ended up a liability. It was sad, but inevitable as soon as they got beyond the Bluesman, his band and singer phase!....Have you heard their latest Album!...I've yet to!

@@TheaterPup I feel I am reasonably knowledgable on that period where they made some of their lower ranked albums of the 60s... There is a lot of documentation that has him down as a great blues player who lost interest and picked up the xylophone amongst other things when not too out of it on the great tracks Jagger and Richards wrote in between beating up his girl friend before capitulating after she left him..
