I once knew a Chinese girl named Anita. Her Chinese name was 思雪 (si xue: “pondering in the snow”). Very bold, interesting Hun girl. But she was married. And I have honor.
I saw them on two occasions at this time: One was this very gig, the other was @Batschkapp in Frankfurt/Main and I can assure you it was EXACTLY as great as you might think, maybe a little bit greater though (even if there were many planning related problems during the event this video is taken from; it runned under the header "Kings ov Independence" and featured Nick Cave, Swans, The Fall, Butthole Surfers and others) - for me these two concerts are among the very best I've ever seen in my life.
Blixa Bargeld looks like an angel with his golden halo in the background. The bad seeds will never be the same :- (. His guitar is perfect here and he should get the credit for writing the music for the song.
...just discovered this because of comments on "Fever Ray's" version of this song. Nick Cave sounds like Ian Curtis did from "Joy Division." I'm originally a black girl from Bronx, NY. Without RU-vid, I would never have found this music.
weird that i choose to watch this video for the millionth time and only notice that this was played august 15th 1987, my birthday! just two years before i was born ha! amazing
I really love this song !!! Brings me so much memory...Saw Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds at the Town and Country Club in London, on October 26 th 1988. Apparently he had just been out a rehab clinic 3 days before the gig. I was with a good friend of mine from Denmark with her boyfriend from Holland, who was a Nick Cave fan as I was too. This friend didn't know much about Nick Cave's music and she looked terrified after 3 songs, when Cave performed one from his previous band "The Birthday Party"... But she did enjoy the gig for sure...Saw him again 20 years after, in 2008, in Marseille. He looked different, more healthier for sure, and it was a different concert !
that seems to be a staple in the lives of the great, no control over the simple events, no control of one self, no control of the habits that create addictions... Still, thanks to that giving in, they can manage to seep the true essence of the human spirit, until they have nothing left and simply fade away. I feel alive Nick, there is no need to give in.
OH MY GOD. Thank you so much for this. I have tears in my eyes...this is aaaaaaaaahhhhhh...so great, one of my favourite songs...this performance is perfect and the quality of the video is amazing :D
what the hell? cave isnt growing old disgracefully thats so mean. Hes just continuing to create and it just so happens that society is so bothered by age and it seems so have bothered you too. forget the age and see just how clever he was and still is.
@Derdeinemutter I think it's awesome. keeps the scary atmosphere but with a totally different genre. now someone should do an atmospheric-doom metal cover of this...
I've never heard about Nick Cave, I also thought this was a Fever Ray's song. Altough I preffer their version, this Nick Cave has an amazing and unique voice.
Nick & co. when they made raw, dark, eerie, brooding and abyssal music with a discreet inner beauty to it. Now they make middle-of-the-road Higgs Bollocks Blues shit !
When I saw Nick at Hammersmith in 2013, they proper fucked up this number; they'd reinvented as a MOTR loungy number ! BLOODY AWFUL ! ! And this is my favourite 80s Nick Cave number; Better luck next time !
@TgirlThelmaANDLouise Its a sign of a young or unsophisticated person to like the cover more than the original, because they never heard the original the first time around.
