I really appreciate your dedication to performing the music of Nick Drake. This is powerfully done, a faithful cover of one of Nick's last recorded songs--a song that reveals the depths of his depression in such raw expression though using the metaphor of a black-eyed dog to represent depression and the specter of death. Where have you gone since recording these several Nick Drake songs? Hope you're still going.
beautiful interpretation plectrum34. I must say the Sound of the Guild has knocked me out so full and rich. Thanks for your vids they are a joy to watch,
Never commented on a video before, seriously, but I was trying to learn this song tonight and I found this. It blew me away. You got all the nuances, which bring the emotion, and make the song.
I first heard nick on a cassttte someone handed to me when I was 18 and feeling very dark and lost. That was 1978. His music has captured me ever since and I've continued to listen to him for the past 32 years. I was delighted when a revival saw nick get the recognition he deserved even if after his death. I've heard many versions of Back eyed dog and this is the best bay far. Brilliant. Look forward to watching the others. cheers stu
Beautiful interpretation of this song! The sound is so clear and perfectly tuned! Nick would certainly tip his hat to you. You are an extremely talented musician to say the least. Keep the music coming!
this guy plays the guitar notes just like nick drake did in 1974 amazing you must have really looked hard at the way nick plays because boy you have mastered it well done ..
Holy crap man... this is chilling. I'm just gonna go and say all your cover songs are perfect to avoid commenting on any more of your videos. Keep em coming!
Fucking amazing! I hope to play this as well as you do one day. You are obviously a fan. I have NEVER heard anyone even come close to this version except for Nick himself! You even hit the low drone during the solo. Beautiful.
There's a comment below that says this song should never have been recorded. What a cruel thing to say. Sure the man was suffering. If he had received some recognition, got a tour with someone - things could have ended differently. But anyone who knows suffering will know that sometimes the blues is the only lifeline. And the music from that place is where an important truth about our condition comes from. That commenter would have left NIck with Nothing to hold on to.. Because it wasn't pretty and nice. Lord!
wonder if nick was sort of doing hellhound on my trail,,this is not only one of nicks masterpieces but surely 1 of the best of anything anywhere, hope your wel plectrum xxx
I love viewing your comments on this one. Informative and quite interesting...lol. I just simply love hearing these cover versions of Nick Drake and it makes me happy to hear them. Have you thought of maybe doing "Rider On The Wheel"? I play alot of Nick's songs on my Martin D1-R and I get such joy performing them.
Excellent again. Hey, Plectrum34, there's a lot of chatter on RU-vid about how you should release an album. I agree. Tear down the wall and release your talent to the masses. Superb!
hi YES best version on tube, that melody is so devastating on nicks version,am growing my fingernails to the picture on treasury to see if that helps lol,of to watch more of your versions now, hope to find pink moon&fruit tree,, thank you &much love trev
Such a great song and such a sad song. You did it justice. As always your guitar playing was excellent but I really feel you nailed the vocals on this one, 5*.
I'm just learning to play this song and checked out your cover. Great job! True songwriting and performing comes from emotion and this song has it all. I read it was the last song Nick Drake ever recorded, what a legacy. At the end of Nirvana's unplugged session, Kurt Cobain was begged by the producer to do an encore (he had just finished "Where did You Sleep Last Night"), Cobain refused, saying he couldn't top that and I think he was right.
@MondayMeadows I think that's part of what makes it so wonderful... ND's music is so painfully honest, including even the worst feelings and aspects of his personality. It shows how complex and human he was, and how brave he was artistically. In my opinion, anyway... btw I may have said it before, but I'll say it again -- absolutely perfect cover. Make more!!!
