Nick Drake "Northern Sky" Guitar Lesson in Drop-D Tuning 

NOTE: skip to 2:25 to hear me playing the song in open D tuning first and then go back to the beginning for info on the chords I am using.
Nick Drake plays this song in an open tuning and others here on RU-vid have provided great lessons on how to play it in Nick's tuning. I find this drop-D tuning works well if you want to include the song in your repertoire, but don't want to change from standard tuning - other than dropping the low E string down to D. The focus here is on the chords and changes and not the strumming.
