I don't know if I've heard a more beautiful song by Nick Drake than this. He talks about magic in the lyrics, and that's exactly what this song exudes. Pure magic. With the lush instrumentation and Drake's words barely escaping his mouth, it's a heavenly listen.
Thanks for watching!

Love Nick Drake. RIP. So tragic, he thought he was a failure. Your music will live on. God Bless.

That signature guitar intro heard in so many of his songs was achieved by using "dead" nickel strings. In other words, strings that had far outlived their normal wear and tear. They produce that melancholy sound, and he used them a lot. I love this man so much!

His songs are like paintings of pure emotions. The color palette of his songs ranges from the deepest black to the brightest white.

I was in a girlfriends' flat in the early seventies and she had a compilation album playing. This song came on and I instantly became a Nick Drake fan.

Great track. The whole album is brilliant… and yes this album has way more instrumentation that his other two. Album featuring the legend John Cale too. Other great track to listen to is ‘At the chime of a city clock’…. Dark but light and uplifting at the same time. Has piano, strings saxophone. Amazing song.

So twinkly it’s twee. I discovered Nick Drake in the early 80s, via the Fruit Tree box reissue (Island was ahead of its time). Northern Sky simply blew me away. It still has the effect of hearing it for the first time. On the other hand, I’m a northern boy and come by my nostalgia honestly. The only benefit to dying so tragically young was leaving a perfect discography.

He was such an enigma and I thoroughly love all his albums. I’d love for you to listen to Time Has Told Me or anything from his first album which remains my favorite ☺️

This is my favourite Nick Drake song. Many, many people talk about Pink Moon as *the* Nick Drake album, but for me it has always been Bryter Layter. Don't get me wrong, I adore the other albums too, but I'm a sucker in particular for the arrangements on this album, the beautiful orchestration just elevates everything. John Cale is also an actual genius, so you have that element too.

Not 100% positive, but I think this was the first Nick song I heard and I'm glad it was. So beautiful. It made the choice to dive into his tragically limited discography an extremely easy one.

It's magic crazy how the beginning of "Northern Sky," "Melissa" by the Allman Brothers (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-71xvwVQABvw.htmlsi=SIfyTNTnhgebTcFJ), "Make It With You" by Bread (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OudI2JPhEqQ.htmlsi=0Uw3hwWzKf2mQRg6), and "Watch Me" by Labi Siffre (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MQfJDQxcjmg.htmlsi=qvZPxjBeUJJbhtg1) all have similar beginnings.

Great to see you revisiting Nick Drake. Nice that you mention John and Beverley Martyn. Following his death, his good friend and fellow singer-songwriter John Martyn wrote the song "Solid Air" in his honor -- well worth a listen. Both Martyn (died 2009) and Drake are often seen as singers of despair.

Solid Air was indeed both written for and inspired by Nick Drake by his good friend John Martyn but I think it was released before his passing.

@@lukebarton5075 Thanks for the correction! Indeed, the album came out in Feb 1973 and Nick Drake died in Nov 1974.
