looking forward to it! Your music is a breath of fresh air Nick. From listening to Becker, Friedman, Satriani, Malmsteen, Stephan Forte, Andy James, etc, I've been stuck on your music lately over those guys... something about it is just raw, fresh, and soulful. Thanks man.
Remembered the quote by David Gilmour "My technique is laughable at times. I have developed a style of my own, I suppose, which creeps around. I don't have to have too much technique for it. I've developed the parts of my technique that are useful to me. I'll never be a very fast guitar player. I don't really know what to say about my style. There's always a melodic intent in there"
@@ggh_-ts6pn same thing with phil collins as a drummer... I guess thats what those televised subliminal messages do to people brains haha. There is so much talent hidden all over the world, almost none of us actually get to tour further than a few local blocks, then some idiot writes a song called "I can't dance" to make my childhood awkward...
@@ggh_-ts6pn People respond to the amount of emotion transmitted - not the technique. Music is an emotional medium. If technique ruled, then shredders will all sit atop the rankings of great guitarists, which isn't remotely the case. Having seen Gilmour three times, along with countless other great guitarists, he completely dominates in one aspect: being the most "epic" guitarist I've ever seen. And that's mostly about getting the most emotional content in his playing. No one who knows music rates him "best", but they sure as fuck don't call him "overrated"
@@ggh_-ts6pn what an arrogant comment! You can say you don't like his playing, but he is widely regarded as one of the best melodic rock guitarists/composers by people who are more knowledgeable than you will ever be. Give some respect kid
"Just when you think it can't get no better then it does, it's always so much better then it ever was Seems like all the good things come at once, yes they do, and just when you think it can’t get no better then it does" -John Hartford
Enjoy the new track, guys! Please consider pre-ordering a signed CD, or a tab book through nickjohnstonmusic.com/ :) (iTunes: itunes.apple.com/ca/album/remarkably-human/id1144324634)
One of the cleanest player I have ever heard. And he makes it look effortless AF. Superb. After years of the same shit something new. Except Guthrie. That guy does his own thing too. Massive.Respect for Nick.
I like how despite how the licks are simple and not the world's fastest or most technical, They're soulful; looking at the comments, we all just like how relaxed and fun to listen to it is. It's a good song. I like the chords and the melody is simple and nice
I think most people try to hard to be technical and fast a different and here we hear a simple progression with a simple melody and it just works. Nick is one favorite guitarist. It's the simple things like his switching of modes and scales that make him so good
Just amazing! One of my favorite things about your playing is the dynamics and feel you have. The way you let it breathe..its not forced. You really let the sound of the guitar shine
position Nick! The main melody is so catchy and the delay used in the middle of the track is amazing. Love the bluesy/SRV influence and modern improvisations in the song too..
It took me forever to look for the dude who was laying down some badass guitar with Polyphia, and I'm sorry I waited so long. After listening to your music here on RU-vid for a few weeks, I decided that it's only fair to support your music, so I just bought your four albums. Hopefully the new album is signed, but if not, I'll live. I eagerly await your next release, whenever that happens.
Nick that was simply incredible. You are an unbelievable talent. I absolutely loved this and just got lost in it. Cannot wait to hear the whole album. You're one of the best man!!
In my opinion, not until satriani goes out. He is still making music - good music too. You can DEFINITELY hear the influence that Satch has had on Nick in his playing though.
Nick Johnston you sir are awesome ! fun fact my mom was in the adjacent room, she was like this sounds so majestic and subtle too. Amazing loving every bit of it.
Hey Nick~ you made Shazam/Siri with this tune today! My daughter asked how famous you were and if Siri would know this- and Siri did (via Shazam)! Sweet! Now you might have actually made it earlier- but we tried it today! She (Siri) was even able to identify it during the solo- that's amazing and says how unique and awesome your soloing is indeed!
For me this makes me feel, like a journey into darkness as it’s illuminated by light. In the beginning things are mysterious and not certain but curiosity and the drive to gain more or become more keeps us going until we realize we’ve become trapped in a beautiful lie and there’s no escape so we’re just along for the ride. Then finally the road ends only to realize we’re back where we started. We can either sit here or get back on the road to nowhere Chasing dreams as time goes round and round. Until you realize it’s not about where your going or where you’ve been it’s all about where you are, and finally we are set free to fly, feel and just be. Unknowingly trapped in that all so beautiful white lie where is all began. We make friends with it, live with it, the lie becomes who we are and and Un distinguishable from our own selfs and so it is, and so it is.
Even if it takes me a lifetime locked in a room on the moon with a sandmonster (who was remarkably human) I will get over my phobia of them there hypergiants ( as soon as I get Wil E. to order me that atomic mind from Acme) & shall listen to all of Mr.Nick's Lick Library!
I need to know the amp you use for average playing because I have a sea foam green shecter diamond series and was wondering a good amp for it, and I'm addicted to your sound and style any tips of how you got where you are
gotta buy all the albums and put them in the same shelf with Gary Hoey, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai... Absolutely Love this stuff.
Nick is just killing it here with such beautiful melodies and tone. I am not usually a big fan of instrumental guitar with the exception of My favorite player Jeff beck and Nick shows the same penchant for coming up with great melodies and playing to the song showing restraint and incredible class. I am a big fan of Nick and wish him the best he is truly gifted.
