Nick was awesome, he actually mentored Jake White who was his video analyst at the time. Pity SARU kicked him out because he wanted the tickets and access to rugby cheeper so that poorer people which meant more black people would have access to the games. So sort sighted cause transformation is such a big issue in SA. What a legend, Nick Mallet !

The thing is School Boy And Varsity rugby encourages a running game in sa but the the Pro Level we always revert to a simple kicking game plan. Everyone wonders why they play crap against lower ranked teams, seems its only against the AB’s where they lift ( all teams do). Seems to me its held in such high regard to beat the All Blacks that its a badge of honour that all SA players want and whatever results of other games dont matter as the win means they can be feted and almost rest on their laurels after. Consistency has long been a hallmark of the All Blacks, 10 years at #1. SA celebrate a win over the AB’s but then seem to not care about the rest.Winning a game against the ABs seems a licence to give them slack for other teams even if they lose they can point at the 1 win and say but hey we beat the AB’s so its all good. Will wait to see how they do this year in November. Congrats on your win last week by the way, it was a great game and to see SA finally decide to run it and it paid dividends. Let’s hope they don’t go back to the old “Bok ‘s DNA style” of previous week that SA was so strongly backed. The problem with SA style of play is that is is TOO predictable. If it will ALWAYS go that way (kicking) then the physicality can be counteracted by having more players there in defence. There has to be variation in the SA attack game to keep defending players undecided as to their positioning in defence. You cannot cover every position/location on defence, but if the opposing team is utterly predictable, you KNOW where the attack will be you can cover it. When the Boks varied their attack, the ABs had a tough time adjusting the defence.

Exactly and thats what happened this past Saturday, NZ were dropping the 3 outside backs deep for the kick and that opened up space for the Boks to attack more. This needs to happen and very more often to get that more well rounded game. I do believe we have missed Cheslin Kolbe massively and the completely out of form Willie le Roux who is usually so important to our counter attacking has not helped either. But yes i agree from the start of the B&I Lions series till the 1st test against NZ we were just to robotic and 1 dimensional. Good comments by NM, straight talker. But comment about the good refereeing is mealie....the ref almost ruined the game....if the players start hitting out at each other usually the ref is to blame for allowing/ being blind for continuous and deliberate infringements....both sides!

Refreshingly honest opinion from Mallett - the Springboks have a better set piece than the NZ and Aus teams but also less skills. Overall, I feel that the Springboks are more reliant on the referees who may reward them for their dominance during a game. In contrast, the counter-attacking teams aren't as influenced by the varying degrees of a referee's assertiveness. These are all factors which make a game of rugby less predictable.

Every player has a number, indicating what his function is. Props are there to scrum, locks to jump in lineouts, and so it continues up to number 15. If every player does what is expected of him in that position, the team wins the game. Wingers are not supposed to scrum, and locks are not supposed to run, period.

@mikezog1030 2 года назад
@@dirkfolscher3001 All players as professional rugby players are supposed to be able to catch and pass. It annoys the shit out of me when the scrumhalf is caught in a ruck and the flankers/winger cannot pass from the ruck. It's honestly not that difficult if you know the right technique. Also the benefit of having big locks and props is NOT to run over people, but to be able to pass out of the tackle more easier. SA players never seem to realise this.

South Africans attitude of current have destroyed a once formidable force in rugby. South Africa ,Australia and New Zealand used to play open running rugby which only the New Zealand team is still adopting while South Africa have turned to a more physical application. They should be greatful for a referee that gave them great help by allowing the slowing down of the play. South Africans seems to enjoy every win of late as if ,they are the newbies of world rugby. I didn't watch the game. It just seemed predictable now a days but surprised with the outcome eventually. Congratulations South Africa. May the next be allowed to flow without the unnecessary stoppages.
