I was sitting there like “ I know it’s been a hot minute since I’ve done tie-dye, but aren’t you supposed to wet the fabric first? Or am I crazy?” 😂😂😂 Poor Nick. 😂💙
@@Roy-G-Biv Unless you know what you're doing, it is highly recommended that you work with a damp item. The colors won't run if you properly space things and the bands are there to act as resists. If you don't wet, you need to scour(hot wash) first to remove any sizing(starch, silicone) and other finishing treatments that manufacturers use. Then you can apply direct, but you have to *completely* saturate areas to ensure strong colors and dye adhesion. You also have to pay close attention to transitions between colors, otherwise you'll have stark white section instead the smooth transitions that wet dying affords you.
@@Roy-G-Biv Yes, it is true. Professional tie dyer here. If you have the GOOD dye, then the fabric is soaked in a solutiion of soda ash and water, then wrung out so it is still damp, but not soking wet. Then you tie it and dye it, and let it set so the dye can "fix" to the fabric.
Ooh I think the shirt came out fabulous!! It’s not your typical tie dye, which makes it unique and way less generic, “meh”. Love the color of the socks, too! I think you did a good job! 👏🏻 ❤
Nick, you're a gem!💎Worked retail for years, can confirm stores put formaldehyde in their clothes before shipping, to prevent wrinkles, mildew, stains and give the fabric a nice look when folded. Always wash clothes before wearing folks 😘
Cardiovascular B...not thinking it fully through.......speaking of :Nick, Dear you put on those gloves, and then started using rubber bands....laughing so hard !
❤❤ yes Nick they do put something on the fabric, it’s usually to repel so you are correct! That’s why you should always wash things before you use them
That turned out way better than I expected … I thought tie dye was tying up & soaking in a bucket of dye , but the shirt esp worked out much more interesting . Matteo might actually be happy to wear it….although he does have criminal dress sense as you’ve pointed out repeatedly, so that might not mean much 😁
Nick you manage to transfer all the amazing energy to me through the screen every time. And every time it comes when I need it, and lifts me up. You are a ray of sunshine 🌞🌸💞
this was so fun! your indignation over needing to wait 6-8 hrs made me laugh out loud...as did many other moments. while you clearly did not do this craft "correctly," i think both items turned out great! :)
Both look SOOO good. You could get an embroidery on the t shirt left breast pocket saying "I never liked you" lol. And the socks look like the sky. GREAT JOB!!!!
Tie-dye is really fun, but you have to use natural fibers, like 100% cotton or rayon. Those socks had polyester, which basically is like trying to put dye on a piece of plastic. It doesn't work. BUT you can re-dye that shirt and add color to it! You can get a second chance and add some orange.😀Nick, I just love how adorable you are. I love the blouses you wear on your podcast. Don't let Mr. T-shirt as fashion tell you how to dress.
The Kardashians have access to so many people....and they never fail to be so effing beige. Hot take, Michelle was the coolest burrito. everyone complaining about being different and when someone does it's not well received. Love this Nick!
I just left a comment on your recent I Never Liked You. I explored Mateo to wear the shirt that you made for him. Your videos are great. His...hit or miss 😅😅
I haven’t done tie dye in 50 years but I think I remember dipping the shirt in pans of dye as opposed to squirting it on. At any rate it’s a great watch 😊
Wrap it before you tap it ❤️ 😂 Would love to hear this topic continued on the “I Never Liked You” pod Thank You Nick for sharing your thoughts with us 🕊️
Your videos are a relief and a safe place for me when the stress of the week kicks in... Because of that I was thinking how amazing it would be if you actually gave us some words of encouragement as well within the video! Haha 😄 Oh... Nick telling me to hang on and keep going cause I'm gonna win this, would be everything that I need...😄🤞🤞❤️❤️
I love Nick's Craft Corner! The socks look like 'blue sky & clouds' motif, very nice! The tee-shirt looks interesting, like an abstract painting, much nicer than actual tie-dye! Good work!...and who needs instructions, when 'ya got inspiration, right?
NICK! Just watched the Italy podcast that dropped today and Matteo was asking if you could tell the difference between Coke/Pepsi, Pizza Hut/Dominos etc -- **PLEASE** -- do a video actually doing taste tests of those and other similar-brand items!!!! We need it!
The shirt is definitely cute and those socks look like a cloudy blue sky! ❤ Feel a little guilty admitting this because Mateo is incredible but you're my favorite!
Nick, not going to lie I kind of like the shirt. It's not tie dye but I think it's a cool print. The socks look like a blue sky with clouds. Both could have turned out so much worse. Great job on your first attempt in years and without instructions! Thank you the fashion review and yet another great video! Love you! 😊❤
I feel like I missed something. maybe as far back as birth, cuz I don't get the Met Gala being garden or nature or whatever themed and most of the dresses were nothing in the theme. but I also would wear what you just made way more than any of those gowns. love the shirt actually I hope matteo enjoys wearing it. and your boyfriend with the socks. Great job nick you would rock some of those met gala looks. would love to see you in one.
OMG, THANK YOU NICK, for saying it was just too/soooo much fabric Cardi was wearing AND how it didn't read properly!! I immediately thought the exact same thing! AWWW, to the tie-dye🥰 I was literally in Kindergarten when I last did that.🤭 Oh, Nick honey, do you know how to sew? P.S. Z's first lewk kinda freaked me out ONLY because of whatever was going on with her eyebrows....😱
another fun video and your lighting looks great, you need to use different dyes for various fibres, cotton and synthetics (in socks) need different dyes probably, some dyes will also need fixing, some have fixers built in. maybe you can wring this theme further with other dyeing techniques, there are many, flour resist paste, batik, foraging for natural dye plants in the bronx, I would also like to see videos of making or decorating the most ridiculous clothes possible then gifting them to people and kind of insisting they wear them...
The t-shirt looks fab (& I like the shade of blue on the socks). Maybe the bottles were meant to be used to squeeze the colours on but without the rubber bands in that kit, like a Jackson Pollock? I don’t know but it all looked lovely in the end 🎉❤!
we're over the met gala🍉 but any vid by u is fun so watched this... u could redo the shirt coz there's so much space left, or even just the back hehe the socks became those galaxy-esque things but not bad =]
