Wow, these almost look like bootlegs that's how bad these look... I think one of the only good things about these figures is that the packaging looks pretty sweet.
Yeah this disappointing! I had very high hopes for these figures! Now I can only hope that Baxter-Fly, Karai, Rockwell the Mokey, Napoleon Bonafrog and Muckman are way better than this!
agreed, even as a kid I would have had a problem with these blank figures.Way too lenient in my opinion.Granted, these are for kids but they know damn well the adults who grew up with the TMNT, like myself, will collect them, like I said even as a kid I would have hated the lack of paint. I'm passing on these and hopefully they will rerelease them painted fully or at least the major parts..............
What a disappointment. The very first figures Playmates released were fantastic, probably among my favorite TMNT figures. And these costumes were great in the series... way to ruin them with such a noticeable lack of paint.
i have to get this out of my chest... i am really tired of getting cheap figures of the TMNT, i was ok with some paint missing, but now we got hollow feet????? I understand that these are toys for kids, but we deserve more respect from Playmates, did you ever try to ask them why they don't do better paint jobs on their figures... i keep wondering why would we get if this license belongs to another toy maker such as hasbro or even Neca....
Playmates is really dropping the ball. I have almost the whole collection of these tmnt figures and it seems like the newer tmnt figures of this line keep gettn worse in terms of paint, hollow feet and now gummy weapons. Come on Playmates, we deserve better considering that there are adults collecting these too.
As much as I love Playmates (Since i was extremely young, 24+ years ago) it's sad to see them become even cheaper than they were, with paints. They may as well have sold these completely blank, since they aren't far off from that state.
They also need to STOP using their prototype photos on the cardbacks. It's false advertising to the max. I truly believe Nickelodeon is the blame, when it comes to skimping on money. Mainly because SOME of the Nicktoon TMNT figures these days are downright worse than anything we got way back in the day, when Playmates still skimped on paints.
When I saw this episode I thought to myself when these figures come out I am going to buy all of them because the turtles looked awesome but after seeing these awful cop outs I'm gonna have to pass. It's a real shame cause the show has a lot of great designs but playmates always decides to cut corners to save on cost and in the end the final product suffers. This is the same disappointment I felt with the rahzar figure and its severe lack of articulation honestly what were they thinking when they just decided to keep his hand in that awful pose?! At this point I really wished playmates would loose the license and it goes to a company the believes in it enough to give the life long fans the quality they deserve
the lack of any paint detailing KILLS these. They are SO cool otherwise. What a shame. They could be something really special. I hope they fix this with future stock.
i would've accepted these figures if they were painted like on the packaging. If you want a more accurate version of the TMNT toys maybe you can get the Revoltech version. Best version, by far.
I really hope the Dr Rockwell (Monkey Brains) has a good paint job and decent articulation, because he's a really basic figure and shouldn't be hard to make. If they mess up Rockwell, i'm going to lose the little faith i have left, in Playmates.
These are so bad that even my 4 year old, Turtles obsessed boy walked out before the 2nd Turtle was reviewed. Seriously, whoever Ok'd these figures to go into production needs to be fired. The sculpts aren't even good enough to bother custom painting the details on yourself. I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come from Playmates because the Battleshell Turtles are my favorite Turtles toy line to date. Sort it out guys ! I can see these on sale at the local pound shop just to get rid of them, and even then I still wouldn't want them uglying up my collection
Mystic Turtles? Damn I am way behind, Nick needs to stick to a time and stay with it that being said, these figures look bad. Especially Ralph. His arms look horrible due to the fact that his arms should be armor pieces but at a glance, it looks like his arms are deformed. These figures need paint, and shading wouldn't hurt. Especially on Leo, his cape could definitely use some shading
Thanks Playmates. Thanks for taking an awesome concept and absolutely RUINING it! Playmates seriously needs to loose the TMNT license because they keep on making garbage. I really wish Neca got the license to making TMNT figures because they would've done them justice. I hope Kaiyodo makes Revoltech versions of this design so I can import them.
Spend a little less on the awesome package Playmates, and a little more work on the actual figure inside please. Man, this is a total bummer dude. I was really excited for these figures to come out! Now though...I think I don't want them as much as I did before. I'll stick with customizing my own figures to look like the Vision Quest Turtles.
it seems that with a little more paint apps and articulation TMNT figures would be more of a home run,but the cost would go up. so i suppose ppl would have to decide what is more important,it's kinda 50/50.
Playmates seems to be getting worse when it comes to taking shortcuts. You'd think they would get it right with a property such as the Turtles which is likely to be their biggest licence. From the lack of paint apps to their awful scaling issues, Playmates is butchering this line. I mean, seriously, why are characters such as Slash shorter than the turtles? Ugh!
I don't understand why they released them so uncompleted? I mean the molds look great but for the crazy price they are asking for each one of these WHY? They look like dollar store versions.
We got these turtles for valentine's day and both donny and Leo's left arms broke off at the elbow in less then a minute of opening them!! Couldn't believe it! We have every single 2012 turtles and the other characters and non of them have broke like that! Besides the lack of paint that bummed me out the most. And out of these ones donny and leo look the coolest if ya ask me.
Great review Dan. I was expecting you to hit on the paint apps and the fact any color is done with molded plastic. The lack of wrist articulation, messy paint and Raphs weapons being gummy was news to me though. I buy these for my 5 year old and these are so full of shortcuts if we get them they may need repainted. Thanks.
I am very happy that we got these. The episode was great especially the nod to the first movie when Splinter came in spirit form over the fire. The painting especially on the legs and wrists is annoying but I'll pick them up anyway.
Most of the most of the Mystic Turtles figures gear were supposed to be painted a grey-white including their belts, elbow and knee pads, wrist wrappings, feet wrappings, and hand wrappings just like they did to the hooded cape of the Leonardo figure, the hood of the Raphael figure, and the belt and wrist bands of the Michelangelo figure, including Michelangelo's durag mask just like their gear were a grey-white of the episode "Vision Quest" of season 3 of the 2012/current TV series that was first aired on January 18 of 2015. But I like Michelangelo's durage mask orange instead of a grey-white. I wish they had also did the same to Michelangelo's durag mask of the episode "Vision Quest" of season 3 of the 2012/current TV series too!
I love it but your right the paint is a shame but the style is really cool and it would've been cool if they had their spirit flag that they had in the cartoon
Wow. As paint problems go, these are just about the worst toys I've ever seen with that issue. These are almost blank! If it wasn't for their signature bandanna colors being incorporated, they'd have been blank.
Now we know what would happen if we mix TMNT & Assassian's Creed. LOL I love the look of Leo, Donny, & Raph. Its almost a sin about the lack of paint/detail on this line comparared to others.
By the way PixelDan, I thumbed down the video because of the quality of these figures and not your review. Your review is on point again, nice work as usual. I really hope people pass on these to show Playmates that they need to up their game a little, at least some paint on the hand and feet wraps would have helped these out in a major way, but they look so unfinished that it is kind of insulting.
Bummer with the paints but still these are cool version of the Turtles and am almost sure we will be seeing some customs from folks who will be repaint these.
I knew they were gonna release these guys sooner or later, but already? Do you want our wallets while they are still warm or something, Playmates? But anyway, I don't usually get the dressed up turtle figures, but since these were from the cartoon (and they just look fricken *AWESOME*) I want these Ninja Turtles... But the lack of paint details on important places almost makes me reconsider. Almost...
They need too take the license away from Playmates. This is just down rite wrong. Each wave keeps getting worse and worse. The lack of detail and paint is just pathetic. It just shows you that Playmates shows no passion towards the Turtles other than too make a quick buck.
I wish the regular Mikey figure came with the kama blades itd be better than just raph's shuriken painted orange even though mikey already comes with his own pair
I really hope Dr Rockwell (Monkey Brains) has a good paint and articulation because he's a really basic figure. If they mess Rockwell up, I'm going to lose the little faith i have in Playmates.
i was at my local target and i saw a tmnt figure with a bow peeking out and i thought it was classic splinter but when i got it down it was MYSTIC LEO... but i didn't buy it
These look pretty great! The paint deco (or lack thereof) has got to be pretty disappointing for TMNT fans. Random question: Has Usagi Yojimbo made an appearance in this series yet? He was always one of my favorites.
As a kid I collected the original toys and I got to say these are complete garbage. The paint jobs are just awful. I dig the fact that they pose well. Love your videos PixelDan!!!
