Warning to anybody buying Nick's Boots...Budget for 2-3 pairs. Once you get the first pair, you'll want more. Most comfortable and best fitting boots Ive ever owned.
So true! 😂 I own two boots in the HNW last, having a boot built in the 55 last, and am considering a boot in the 11067 last or possibly a wedge sole boot.
He def does. Nothing more annoying than being indecisive and not having someone push you in a direction, otherwise that kind of person will 100% walk out with nothing n probably never come back, due to being mentally overwhelmed with the massive options. The only way, for me, they can make this any better. Would simply be with the mto process. If ur newbie, itd be cool af to be able to build you boots, in a similar fashion to building you car online. If i add this, i can see the change. If I add that, I can see the change and so on. That would both separate this company from every other, and also aloow them to let other companies (for a huge price) utilize their proprietary framework built for this process.
The first man, with the red hair is Nathan Kromer, now Senior Brand Manager and the second man is Lucas Grasberger, now Nicks Merchandising Manager. I don't own any Nicks yet, but I will. Loving the boots and the company vibe!
Can you compare/contrast the build quality/robustness of Nicks Boots (as best you can) to the other handmade boot builders? (Whites - Viberg - Wesco & a few others)
I really can’t at this point because I don’t have those other two options, as this is the gentleman‘s journey I want to stay true to what I actually know and therefore I can’t talk on those yet. Those boot brands are definitely on the docket for future reviews. Thanks so much for asking and at this point all I can say is that whites boots are the best I’ve had on my feet to date
Definitely a class act as a company. The try em on thing is great. I love the look of the army jump boots I had in the 1980s. I wore them for 3 years straight on active duty but had three pairs. Inspection ready spit shined and two brush shined. I saw a few models that looked like something worth getting. Thanks so much for this video!
Really appreciate you watching and taking time to comment. Sounds like you had some killer boots in the past. I bet Nicks would live up to that standard! Cheers Kevin
I wear White’s Smokejumpers boots and enjoy them, but my next pair will be something from Nick’s. I love that they are owned by an American company, have a huge selection and make great videos.
I'm gonna look into Whites. I really wanted Nick's but they seem to be very left leaning and I can't support that. I doubt there is a better boot than Nicks but I can't fund a company that goes against American values
USA made quality! How can you not want to order a pair? Yes they are expensive but just remember that whatever you do for a living you want to be laid fairly. These workers deserve a fair honest wage for their hard work and high skill level. Hence the cost. Good things are worth waiting for!
I was in store for fitting a few weeks ago. Great experience. I was sure I knew what I wanted but I kept looking at those brown waxed flesh urban loggers. I ordered them and now I’ll have to get another pair like I originally wanted! Micah fitted me and Nathan finished up my order. Great video!
@@koala4dictator Hey theyere! I'd say go with that 12 then. I am a 12 in tennis shoes, 11.5 in Thursday Captains and 11 in Nicks. Cheers and thanks for watching the video!!
@@GentlemansJourney I see! I will probably get the 12 but I usually like about a thumb space at the end of my shoes and boots, I don’t like when my foot is exact size of the boot or touching the end .
@@koala4dictator mine sized 1/2 below what I would wear in a mass produced work boot. One of my problems was that in larger sizes many companies go to whole sizes only and drop the 1/2 option after 11 or 12. I would typically wear an 11.5 but had to choose 11 or 12. Nicks sized me at 11. I wouldn’t hesitate to use their fit kit and try boots option but was glad I had an opportunity to visit the store.
I want to order a pair of urban drifter boots, but I wonder if the sizes of Nick's and Whites are equal. I'm 8.5FF on Whites should I order same size on Nicks? I'll appreciate your suggestions.
I don't personally know but let's hope someone will chime in to help ya out a bit. I have a strong feeling they are very compatible. I really appreciate you checking out the video and we have a bunch more coming soon!
The wonderfully bad thing about most PNW boots is much like the children’s story “If you give a moose a muffin.” However, there are pros and cons to all builders and a friendly fierce turf war amongst the customers. JK, for me all the way. *bah dum tsss*. 😉🤙🏻
I notice you don't measure arch length, just foot length. My arch length is 1/2 size larger than my foot length, and it is this that I've been told to use for my "Brannock size". Also I've been told to take Brannock sizes while standing as each persons foot flattens out to different degrees while bearing weight, lengthening their foot more than when not bearing.
I've had many measurements by now and I gotta say, altering being fit for my Nicks Urban Loggers, they ended up being a great fit for me. Just my experience.
Ha! Could be... You Right with Jesus!! Take care man and hope you get some good boots. They often have some that are ready to ship. Franks and others have ready to ship as well.
What about a heel to ball size? On a Brannock device my foot measures a size 11D from heel to toe but when measured from heel to ball I’m an 11.5D. Which size is best for me?
They had what I thought was my size brand new ready to ship builder pro in walnut 8” steel toe rough out w smooth upper. I just went ahead and pulled the trigger. I wear a 10.5d in Thorogood and order 10D in Nicks and they fit me perfect. Lucked out and got what I wanted without waiting. So anyone looking for boots keep an eye on the ready to ship section.
@@GentlemansJourney thanks man I’m working on breaking them in now not too bad for me and getting better everyday. Hope the sizing and or ready to ship info can help someone out.
I’m slightly confused. They only use 3 lasts. Why did I see hundreds of lasts and why did I see them add leather to lasts if for the most part you get a handmade boot that is and a standard last. Are the lasts the 3 different lasts in the extended size range and widths?
I would rather save up and buy a pair and know im supporting an American made product we need more if this American made products i am definitely getting me a set of nicks boots
These are very nice boots. I am sure that you will enjoy them for years to come. But, I will never buy a pair. The fitting process for online purchases is too haphazard. The vast majority of us do not have the luxury of being able to visit a store to get measured and fitted. When you ask customer service what are the differences. They always say the company mantra, “It comes down to personal preference.” I have no idea what even means in the real world. To me, it is just a magic wave of the hand. I have learned more from this one video that I have from dozens of videos Nick’s has on RU-vid. Sure, you can order a pair of “try on” boots. But, they charge a hefty extra fee. It adds at least 10% to the cost, and they apparently keep it.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and comment. I put a ton of work into these and glad they help out a bit. I totally know what you mean by the "comes down to preference". What the heck does that mean?? I am learning that a bunch of this stuff is trial by fire. LOL. I do feel that you can have a pretty high level of confidence getting the right fit from Nicks without using their try on boot. I agree that does add a bit of cost to an already expensive purchase. Could be worth it if you really had difficulties or concerns but I think the average Gentleman ought to turn out ok with their online size guide.
I'm a 5 Star universal Salesman.. and Couldn't Love More than to open up A Nicks Boot Store Here In Colorado.. most the population wear, Need, and would buy, the Best. I drove there from Montana for this situation I was kinda let down some rich dude walked in wanting a belt got more attention. “I didn’t want a tour I just wanted to get fitted.
It's Nathan he was in a few videos in the nicks boots main channel. All we need is grant there too. It's good to see the process of how the boots are made and the reason why the boots are very expensive. Good video man👏👏👏.
WOW WOW WOW What A AWESOME Boot Your Video Makes Me Have To Get A pair & Probably More Than One , I Would Love To Have Several Pairs Of Them , I Could Almost Feel How Good They Felt Just Watching You Try Them On, & My Feet Almost Feel Better Watching How Their Made & Watching Him Talk To You About Them & Showing About The Folds While Trying Them On & Other Coments Throughout & All Together it Just Really Makes Me Want Some & For Sure The High Arch & Tall Heal GREAT VIDEO REALLY REALLY GOOD Thanks For Them & You Showing ALL OF THAT ,AWESOME AWESOME BOOTS. It would be good if you could ask them if their boots helps foot slide and toe jam while going downhill cause some do. Great video.
@@GentlemansJourney I wish! My legs are uneven now and i have a fused ankle. It was very difficult to find shoes for myself. It gets to costly as i currently have little money. Still i have hopes but the current economy isn't promising for a person in my position.
I'm thinking that is the Falcon due to the Dogger Heel. @Nicks is this right? By the way, thanks for watching James and be sure to catch my latest Nick's Video!
I wear an 11.5D in Red Wing, Nicks and Whites. Wear a 12D in dress shoes. Wish makers would just label sizes as true size. Seems stupid you have to try to figure out your size because they do not fit true to size. I might have been able to wear a full size down in Nicks and Whites but rather a little longer than too short. Another point of interest is my 11.5 Iron Rangers are the same length as both Nicks and Whites in the same size????????
I'm right there with ya, why cant we have a standard that we can all trust. They can just make it however they want but call it a 12 if it's a 12. I hear ya friend. Sounds like you have a pretty awesome collection going. Hope to get ya a better answer on that tough question as the videos come along! Cheers
@@GentlemansJourney I ordered an 11.5 in a WESCO ankle boot (same size as all my others) and it was true to size......lol Some folks selling that brand recommended sizing down a 1/2 size but the boots measured out to a true 11.5D. I can wear them with thin dress socks but the big toe on my slightly longer left foot is really close to the end. I would say WESCO is true to size.
My Red Wing work boots last about five years , or so . They could last longer , but , the heels wear out on each and every pair of those boots I've ever had ! ( they let water in & that's it ... they aren't worth a resole )
@@GentlemansJourney Thank You ( be sure to get both knees on the floor so You get a good GROUND , LOL ... just kidding , but , all kidding aside , I DO need Your prayers ) ! I just found out about Nick's ready to ship boots . I may try that , if They have a pair I can use ( and afford ) . I sent Them an inquiry message (I'm waiting to hear back ) .
That's 11E 10 inch 3. Last The last is what gives a boot its overall shape and size. For Nicks it also determines the level of arch support in the boot. We offer three different lasts, with two different arch profiles. The 11067 and 55 lasts both have our "classic arch" which has a oaktanned leather arch piece. The HNW last is our moderate arch. Due to the shape of the HNW last, it is only available with our moderate heel height. nicksboots.com/buying-guide/
I can't wait to come and tour your factory and get fitted. I'm excited. My feet are strange wide foot with a thin heal. I get blisters. Nocona boots have always fit me compared to Tony lamas. It's always the heal. Great video. Soon as I can make that trip. 😌
I stopped by their store a feel months ago. I wear 10.5 in Nike shoes. He measured my feet and said my feet are unusually wide. The made me size 8.5 extra wide. Now I know I should buy wider sport shoes.
That's a huge help! What model did you go with at Nicks? Thanks for watching and be sure to check out my recent Nicks Urban Logger boot video, have some awesome leather there!
@@GentlemansJourney I don’t need a serious work boot, I wanted something that looks nice. I bought the Urban Drifter in British tan. Took about 2 months for them to ship it.
If im spending $500 on a pair of boots, they better do my work for me. I thought $320 red wings were expensive. Jesus Christ. $500 is just too much. My $120 wolverine moc toes have held up great, still holding up, comfortable as hell too.
Was gonna buy some Nicks. But I'm gonna support a business that loves America. Nicks as a company seem to be a lil left leaning for me which is too bad because they do make a great boot.
@@GentlemansJourney they are a damn good boot and they have the right to endorse and be however they want. Free country. I just don't have to fund that. I don't want them out of business or canceled or none of that. People can buy whatever. But I have my own principles to live by. To me it's not only about being made in America, it's also about actually supporting America. I don't know if they are Patriotic Americans or lefties anti-America Americans. Not enough info out there so I'm holding off until I'm sure.
I'm looking into buying my first pair from one of the PNW boot makers. Just curious what this company did that was left leaning? That could sway my decision as well.
@superduty2023 I'm not saying it is. It's possible they are not. I said seems a little left leaning because of the area they live in and I seen many videos of them wearing masks still while working. They could right wing, neutral, or left. There isn't much out there on their stance. So I'm just being curious and cautious before pulling the trigger. I do know there are Normal people out there who hate the insanity out there, I just wish there was more info out there like an Amazon or General Motors. You know they support left wing ideas Nick's isn't as open to their customers as far as I know.
@@GentlemansJourney that’s not much arch support at all. My iron rangers have basically none. It’s about the only thing I dont like about them other than the soles not doing well in snow. I just use them as summer boots.
Hi dude! I see you are an 11E in Nivks boots. I was wondering what your standard Beannock measurement is. And also what size you get for sneakers. Im ordering some BP boots in 11D today. I took a pretty good guess on size based on my other boots. I'm also curious if you have an opinion between 1964 brown and Weather Shield Brown? I wonder if Weather shield will allow my foot to breathe. Cheers, and great video...as usual.
Hey mate and thanks for watching and chiming in. I wear a 12 in Tennis shoes. I measure just below a 12 on one foot and 12 on the other foot. Confusing but yes! It is a bit shorter in this video as I am sitting down. I have an 11D in these boots. Sounds like I can shop in your closet if I need new boots lol. I don't have too much of a comment on the leather as they should both breath about the same and it might go down to color. Thanks for watching!!
I just ordered a 10E and after watching this video I’m scared I should have ordered a 9.5 E . I wear 10.5 in sneakers and 10 in all boots. I got a low arch smaller heel so I think It may be too big. 😞
Certainly a bit cause for concern but you are working with the best company in case you need a exchange! According to the math and my fitting process I think it’s a fine line… hope they error on the small end 😁🤞👍🙏
The good news I can tell you is that with most of these handmade boot companies you have to size down, but standard width directly correlates to the number preceeding it. For example I wear a 14D in most tennis shoes (not including Adidas), 13D in Adidas/Cowboy Boots/Dress Shoes/Off The Shelf Work Boots, and 12.5E (if the company offers it) or 12EE in most handmade boots. These are all the same sizes called something different haha and it's OBVIOUSLY confusing... but it's even more confusing after size 12 because in most cases a 13 is to 12 what 11.5 is to 11 (the half size up) but in some cases its not? TLDR: Standard width (D) increases as you go up in size so if you have to size down for a Manufacturer it usually means that the width will increase (go up in letter value) in most cases from my experience. Either way MAKE SURE to buy high quality WOOL/Poly/Nylon/Spandex blend socks in medium thickness or heavy thickness (especially if the boot fits too loose for you) and know that a well made leather boot will shrink or stretch to fit your foot overtime. TIP: Wear a pair of quality silky texture dress socks or poly work socks under a pair of medium thickness Wool Blend socks to aid in comfort during break-in and prevent blisters (reduces friction, absorbs moisture better, and helps with fit). I recommend shopping around for best prices on good socks (which usually cost $20+++ but can be had for as low as $5 a pair or in rare occasions slightly less if you buy multiples). Lastly, and this is to anyone that reads this, I work long days in some of the most humid and hot subtropical areas as well as tropical areas and I'm here to tell you that you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WOOL and wool blend if you've ever said or believed it when someone told you "It's too hot for wool soCKS". Ladies and Gents SOCKS ARE IMPORTANT... do research and experiment yourself. To Michael Carnley, I hope your boots fit (I'm betting they will) and that you enjoy the hell outta 'em and wear the sole outta 'em! Leave an update and tell us how it worked out for you when you get a chance... maybe it'll help out someone else in your shoes and give them a solid step in the right direction towards a sturdy new pair of boots! EDIT: Quality orthotic inserts and lacing techniques can actually solve a lot of issues with boots that are a little big so it's worth looking into if that's your case!
The dudes voice is like fingernails on a blackboard…. Absolutely amazing video so impressive that they are produced using the techniques of our forefathers!!! Red wings were the Cadillac of work boots but now everything you purchase is shit from China or another foreign land …
From their site:If boots normally fit you, you’re in luck. Nicks Boots will fit a bit large compared to your mass-produced footwear. For a more snug fit, select a ½ size smaller than your mass-produced shoe size. Example: If you normally wear size 12D, you could order a size 11.5D in Nicks to achieve a snug fit. If you would like a little bit more room in your boots, you can order your normal boot size.
I’d say that you should be pretty good going with your iron ranger size since they are more of a slimmer toe box than the redwing moctoe is. Nicks has a great return process! I’m 11.5 in Thursday’s and 11 in nicks. There is no way I could get an 11 in Thursday’s. I’m a 11.5 in redwing but my moctoe Redwing Roughnecjs are a little roomy…
I was wondering about that too. Iron rangers which I'm a size 9 and are built on the 8 last. The redwing moctoes are built on the 23 last. Hard to pinpoint if u wanna go with your redwing moc toe size or the iron ranger size.
Good information but really bad camera resolution. I just can't see paying over $700 for a pair of boots when I can pay $150 for a pair of Carolina loggers they last me four to five years and by another pair that's 300 every 10 years I could literally have a new pair of boots for 15 years and pay less than one pair of nicks and I don't have an old stinky pair with new tread on them. Plus I was not surprised by the comfort of Carolina Boots there was no break in. They fit good right off the start they are a thick type of leather and very comfortable right off the bat I could not be more satisfied.
I really love Nick's boot selection and styles, but I don't know if they make anything bigger than a 14. I wear a 16 2E, and really love the company for their passion for great footwear.
@@FabulosoSpray I get a kick out of the resoling. It's the ultimate in terms of being a good steward in my estimation. Appreciate you commenting. Check out Franks Boots as well, I have videos with them now. Either way, you can't go wrong.
I wish there was more info about toe space. I typically wear a 10.5D, that’s what I measure on brannock and that’s what I ordered in a falcon with w&c veg tan leather. I’ve got about 1” plus in front of my longest toe and it just seems like that’s really long.
@@GentlemansJourney the rest of the boot feels ok. I get a little heel rub but I’m still in break in. I went through the try on boot process and what I got after my measurements and questionnaire for try on was an 11B which felt totally wrong. It was also the 55 heel which I also didn’t care for the feel of so opted for HNW.
When you spend that much it would be nice to be measured by the company rather than yourself. Is there a way to send them a professionally measured size if you live far away?
They have a great process for that. You can size yourself and based on the size you come up with using their described process they can then send you a boot and see if it is what you want. That's a trial boot and if that works then they will begin your order as you send that trial boot back. This info is on their website or you can give them a call!
As far as I know yes. But they have a great program online to get fit and even have a trial type pair to send out to you so you can buy with confidence.
My question is simple, this is the most complex site I have ever seen ! I have 6 inch 9 B Red Wing 202 moc toe boot, several years ago the shoe got larger, red wing changed the last maybe, I don't know ? Since I wear a 9 B they don't make a 8 and one half B. I've had surgeries on my feet this is the only shoe that works for me ! Can someone at your place either look at the shoe at the red wing site and recommend a shoe of yours or allow me to send you the shoe and have you recommend what shoe of yours I should order ? I and most people don't anything about shoe lasts or leather types or soles ! Please ! ! ! How would you like to order a car from Ford and they would ask you what type of pistons do you want in the car ? My God who knows !
Since this is my RU-vid channel and not theirs you may want to either call them or drop this comment on their videos if you’re wanting more help with the process beyond what their website offers. Not convinced they will see your comment. 🥾🥾
Not sure that they do have a catalog. I'd check their website or give them a call for more questions. I sure do miss flipping through catalogs. There is something satisfying about that as apposed to a website. Cheers

@@GentlemansJourney A pair of urban drifters. Im going to get it roughed out, in tan and a honey vibram sole. That's exactly right, from what I am finding Nicks is about 1/2 size down. He says that I was an 11.5 when standing and 11 while sitting. I really want to get back into a redwing a try an 11. I did not feel comfortable in their 11 in the past. However, I'll be doing a 1 year review on my redwing roughnecks soon and since those are a moctoe i felt that they are a little roomy after much use. Hope this does not confuse you.... Best thing to consider is I am an 11 sitting and nicks put me in an 11 and it was perfect!
@@GentlemansJourney yeah because in all of my boots including Red wing i am 7.5" so if i am not going into the Nicks sizing process i was thinking to getting order the 7.5 size well good luck to me Lol. and thank you again for your reply i appreciate 👍👍👍
I tried them all, but I'd say give Nicks a call and ask about the long term difference between the two since I only had them on for a short time. Thanks so much for watching!
The 67 really helps if you are up in the woods on odd terrain. It also positions your toes differently to prevent hammer toe. Besides that I found the 55 last a bit easier on standard ground such as asphalt, linoleum, or concrete. Feel wise I like both, for me personally the 67 would be a harder break in by the nature of my own feet. I already own the HNW in two boots and am picking up the 55 last. I have absolutely no break in other than the footbed with their HNW last but the 55 and the 67 lasts arch support is by far superior. So different boots for different applications. I do hope that helps you!
