You guys can't judge him now, it's his first solo performance.. well, shane and mark's first performances were mind-blowing.. but give him a chance please..
Vocally he wasn't at his best, though he can improve by the time we go to Sweden. The staging is amazing and Nicky has the right attitude about approaching the Eurovision. Let's hope he promotes the song through out Europe. I think Ireland will definitely qualify. Some tweaks to the vocals and Ireland could place very high in the final.
+ESC Planet judging by the other countries Ireland is against in the second semi I think (based on the songs picked so far - which isn't much) there is a good chance. Sure, it won't place too high if he sings like this, but i think it will be enough to be a borderline qualifier.
This is such an energetic and happy song and he just stay almost still there :/ really nooow, I felt like dancing a bit, but seeing him standing like a tree and just waving his hands made me reconsider that. His voice wasn't at best either ( probably nervousness?), but that can be improved till May. I really want him to dance a bit or move or I don't know, just do something because this song it's too good to just stay still when you sing it T.T
Sounds better than the studio version but he needs to practice more when it comes performing live because he seems nervous and that won't do him good in Stockholm. I get that this is his first major performance as a solo act so I understand if he looks nervous here. RTÉ better give him a memorable staging for Eurovision though so that whatever his place is in the running order, he'll have good results.
I am sure the camera angle would be much better in Eurovision. However, when he sung " in the sunlight"... the backing vocals is so loud that the sound blurred
The staging is not bad, but I hope that he will at least move around a little in Eurovision. There's no chance of winning just standing there. Anyway, I love the song and I will be voting from Spain. Good luck!
He seems nervous but why? He had loads of experience performing in front of thousands of fans in stadiums. This is just studio and the audience there are mostly like his fans. Anyway, I hope he will do well in Eurovision.
When you are used to having Shane, who never seems to miss a single note, and Kian and Mark there to back you up if something should go wrong, it must be weird to be all alone on the stage all of a sudden. And he wasn't even the lead singer on 95+% of the westlife songs/performances. But he can sing. We've heard it before. He's actually a lot better than this. Just let him get used to all of it a bit more and I'm sure he'll do great. (Even though the song in itself is a bit boring.)
+escpat He's nervous because he's not able to hide to the same extent like Westlife did behind lip syncing and backing tracks and backing singers. Shane and Mark were the only two singers in the group, the rest just filled the vacancies on stage and in the photos.
+JakobTennisMB Top Ten? I can't see Ireland qualifying for the Grand Final this year I'm afraid. Song is OK and Nicky is charismatic, but the whole package is lacking. Try harder next time, Ireland.
It's not his fault. Even though he wasn't the lead singer, he's still a very experienced singer. It's about the song itself... Such an ordinary song.... bad decision.... doesn't allow him to show any vocals at all...
He was in a group for a reason... Because he's not good enough to be a solo artist and just adds to odd line here and there. Unfortunately this just exposes the magic of vocal production in music. The songs ok but there is no way can anyone rate the vocals at all. Fair enough he was nervous or whatever but it wouldn't make you consistently that bad with such a heavy backing track...
STOP BEING OVERLY CRITICAL TO HIM if you do not avidly follow ESC. Watch the past esc winner's live performances, let's hear if they were vocally perfect as well.
He needs to move a little because it's an upbeat happy song. The vocals are good but weak, just like in Westlife days. You can't deny that he's charming. But to enter Eurovision you also need a good song and a proper singer to sing it right? He's more an entertainer than a singer. Having said that, I really like this song and hopefully it will do well in the contest.
(thank God for backing singers)......He's a very weak singer as were all but Shane and Mark in Westlife. He looks the part though and is a nice guy, but cant sing much at all.Best of luck. I mean that.
No amount of practice will help if you are not able to sing in the first place and sadly Nicky doesnt have a good voice. The song is only average and his performance is very poor. Will not qualify for the Final.
OMG!! So off key!! Sincerly hope he gets as many votes as his Father in Law's Political Party does in the upcoming Irish General Electiom!! Major F....FAIL!!
