The wonderful, valiant, beautiful Altior! I’m so glad they have made the right decision to retire him now while he is still sound and in the prime of his life. He was such a brilliant jumper and gave his all, he brought tears to my eyes more than once, a true champion. I wish him a very happy retirement with Mick Fitzgerald, a lovely man who genuinely loves horses.
One of all time great two mile chasers who won me a good few quid in his career. I shall always remember him amongst the very best. Have a long and happy retirement old boy, you deserve it.
@@tomgallagher7870 I never did either I was a big fan of Special Tiara sadly no longer with us. Altior was always the one to beat and deserves all the praise he gets.
Yep he sure does.looked in trouble a few times turning in at the festival but then just powered away.sprinter,altior and now shishkin.nicky lucky fella...
Altior and Sprinter Sacre are and always will be my two favourite Nicky Henderson horses he has ever trained and Nicky is my all time favourite horse racing trainer well done Altior great horse and a excellent horse to watch aswell will miss you Altior and thanks for the many awesome days and enjoyment you gave me 😀😀😀😀😀😀😃😃😃
I'm sad and a bit relieved. He is a great horse and how much his owners must cared for him, and of course he was trained by the master. A lovely story at last, after all the horrible things that happened in horseracing this last year. Have a lovely,long retirement Altior !
I'm absolutely devastated to hear of the news he is my favourite and always will be what a legend he could have gone on for another year hes still got the gears and good engine. Nicky yes disappointed you let him run on that wrong going but it was too late. I would like to have seen a rematch with cyrname again altior would still kick his arse and beat him i have no doubt. Anyway hes safe and will be looked after by mick and i hope to see him very soon. I truly won't forget him i love this horse 🐴 forget sprinter sacre. 19 straight wins. 🏆 🏆.
Altior was as close to a "machine" as a horse can get. Just a relentless galloping horse and a magnificent jumper. Pure class. P.S. Sprinter Sacre WAS BETTER!!!!
They are all horses of different times. Anf they are or was all very special horses, but I have to agree sprinter sacre you can put your heart with all the other horses but it would get cut from your chest because that horse was, a Frankel a Mike Tyson, a Usain bolt. You cant beat them not while they are in that zone they get into.
Nico is a good jockey but man i would love just would love to see my favourite now champion jockey ride altior interesting. Nothing wrong with nico but for a yard that doesn't have the firepower like nicky Harry skelton will always try and win what a jockey after all he won the queen mother chase for Paul Nichols and i backed him.. Defi de Saul remember that one.
Nico knew the horse so well and didnt do too bad so I dont think a change of jockey was going to change the record of this wonderful horse. Nico was his jockey and what a team they were.
@@suemaher5282 thats right nico does know the horse and is a good jockey and does a good job on all the mounts he can for nicky Henderson ime not for a second doubting they should have been a change of jockey it is just my thought being harry skelton fan i would have loved to see him ride him and after all its the owner who as the say they may come a day when nicky may get harry skelton to step in if they is a slot.
@@darrensmith9071 Harry is a great jockey Darren and it would be great to see him get top horses. Dan Skelton will give him plenty of opportunities as hes shaping into a top trainer. I know u aren't having a go at Nico just having an opinion and that's the beauty of racing
@@suemaher5282 sue for sure him and his brother they inseparable and what he as achieved is remarkable when look how much they have paid for the horses its not just about harry and Dan the all team have done an outstanding job no one would have said harry would be come champion because he doesn't get the mounts and besides that if he gets the mounts from other yards the horses are not like these machines like altior. And besides all that you just have to see the recognition from his dad a 2time Olympic gold champion on Big star and to come back and win again after a fall that could have killed him what a legend. There are lots of good horses and trainers and to be honest I'm not biased in any way but I'm altior through and through and i stand with pat and Richard decision to retire him. He could have gone on for one more year look at cuecard, Colin tizzard horse i was a big fan of him he won the king George and i backed him when he came 2nd i think he was 12. My thinking would be to hav taken cyrname on since he lowered altior colours and that was only because he stays 2and 1/2 and he had already ran and the ground was in his favour nicky Henderson knows this but its done now. No horse lover likes to loose especially if its your favourite like altior.
@@darrensmith9071 Great comment Darren. I remember going to Hickstead and Nick would have Dan and Harry with him on a quad bike. Nick was one of the best riders I have seen and Harry and Dan have inherited their dads will to win. Roll on the jumps
