And in the very next episode, the Picky Penguins pointed out how *extremely lucky* he was. And he had no clue he was dodging those attacks all the time. Then the Platinum match started...

This was basically the same experience I had, on this fight. I thought "sure, the fact that Riku turns into a super-spamming coward on his last health bar is really annoying, but I don't see why this fight is so associated with rage-quitting. I can just glide around and wait for him to find his balls." It wasn't until years later that someone pointed out to me how long the pre-fight cutscene is, in a game with unskippable cutscenes and no "battle start" checkpoints. That's the sort of thing that really puts you on tilt, in a situation that you absolutely don't want to be on tilt for.

Was that all one try? That's really cool. My hats off to you good sir. I love his expression when he found out he got to Everlasting Darkness. From celebrating to "Oh shit" in no time.

That moment when you realized Nico never died once against the main story bosses

I remember as a kid having to watch the unskippable ‘lead me into everlasting darkness’ cutscene over and over until I had perfectly memorised the lines. That’s how hard the boss fight is. Even now as an adult the fight is still really freaking brutal.

For anyone confused why that fight is so annoying, like he said, cutscenes in the original version were unskippable. So if you lost (and on hard mode, it's very likely you will) you had to rewatch Ansem's drawn out monologue over and over and over again until you reached the next save point.

Basically the difficulty in this game got nerfed massively by two things: -Leaf Bracer -Exp rings neither of which were in the original game, hence nico is about 10 levels overlevelled for this boss fight.

Don't worry. The BS was made up in the Chain Of Memories playthrough. Riku wrecked his ass! XD

ok to all the people who didn't understand why this fight sucked so bad 1. On ps2 his health bar went to purple (not orange) 2. You had to over level on pround mode 10 levels to not get 2 shot 3. No leaf bracer 4. Couldnt skip cutscenes (to restart the fight took over 4 mins) 5. No internet to tell you ez strats

God, I saw the everlasting darkness cutscene SO many times as a kid (I was six when I got stuck on it, I only beat him hears later), when I play final mix I can still to this day only hear the German dialogue even though they talk in English... I'm traumatized forever.

A couple years ago, I was looking for kingdom hearts let’s play moments since it’s my favorite franchise to see if I can find anyone interesting to watch. Now I’m a fan of Nico. Glad to be a Picky Penguin. Gotta stay classy.

This fight was the most frustrating in the game for me. I was dumb and didn't figure out you needed to manually equip shared abilities until much later so I didn't have glide to help me out when he started spamming those dash attacks. Just had to dodge roll and hope I didn't die. Only fight I had to grind in order to beat. Thankfully I was playing 1.5 and could skip the cutscene. I feel so bad for all the kids that must have gotten stuck here.

You know, for the way the cutscene was animated, the keyblade Nico used for the fight fit really well.

I honestly didn't have much trouble with Riku-ansem. I mean you can glide over most of his attacks including ragnarok. I honestly had more trouble with dragon maleficent. F*ck that fight, f*ck that fight in particular.

1:46 I actually forgot about that "Everlasting Darkness" tidbit pretty early on, so I didn't quite get what he was talking about here at first. And now I know.

The nightmares o.o so many nightmare so much drywall

God, the Riku boss fight pissed me off so much as a kid. I watched that cut scene about 45 times before I finally beat him. Every time I lost I would restart the cut scene and leave the room for 5 minutes because I couldn't stand it anymore.

I LITERALLY JUST WATCHED THIS!

This is one of the few fights in the game where I feel a Keyblade's weight/recoil value are actually useful. Lady Luck's amazing but its 1pt weight makes it really awkward to mash through Riku's constant counterattacks, I would always use Olympia (90pt weight) in this fight so that when we clash I could start my next attack before Riku even finished his and just stay on top of him.

And now years later Dark Riku has finally had his revenge on riku with the KH3 data fights.

I loved LOVED this fight as a kid, because it was so cool looking, and not spamming X but paying attention to patterns and openings was SO rewarding... like, Nico in this fight gets frustrated because Riku blocks/deflects all his attacks and so did I the first times I fought him, but it turned into euphoria dodging last second to get an opening and unleashing damage

You can block pretty much every attack that Riku-Ansem uses. The only problem I had with it was that I kept getting killed while trying to heal(KHI didn't have Leaf Bracer).

Was I the only one who thought this fight was really easy?

The worst part is once you figured it out, he's actually way more easier than most bosses

I had to fight Ansem-Riku like 4 times before I beat him, on PS2. I will never forget that damn cutscene! -.- I was only level 48, because I couldn't be arsed to grind anymore, but damn, it took a while. XD "EVERLASTING DARKNESS!" Nah, Riku, m8. More like everlasting fucking nightmares of this bloody battle.

The real great moment was after this when Sora kills himself to save Kairi and Nico goes ‘ohhh... ohhh. Ok it’s official, this scene made me fall in love with this game’

As someone who has beaten the whole game on proud, I can say that without the wait to fight again, hes not a frustrating boss. I think I beat him in like half an hour.

Holy crap, he was taking almost no damage at all. When I did this fight, I died in either 3 or 2 hits. o.o

This literally happened to me yesterday except he was on that last bar for 20 minutes.

Mine was the final version of Ursula I could not take the cut scene decided to go on to Halloween town beat that world and go back and finally beat Ursula

While I had trouble with this fight, I never hated it. Because I always considered this fight really cool and climactic.

Too bad the battle mechanics that made KH 1 and 2 so great and challenging won't be present in KH3. When I heard Osaka team was developing KH3 I died a bit on the inside.

The Metal Chocobo just negates his difficulty because instead of him blocking when you attack if counter attack it will hit him because of it's long reach

Not to discredit his achievement here by any means, but honestly KH 1 final mix is basically baby mode once you unlock leaf bracer, obviously my younger self would have found any of these bosses more intimidating back in the day, but the fact you don't even have to look for an opening to be able to get the heal off takes 90% of the pressure the story mode bosses can put on you, it's honestly kind of bullshit lol.

I think in the original this guy did more damage, even with Aero. I think they maybe nerfed him a little in the HD remix.

Seriously this guy is easy, here are some purely melee strategies that require no skill. 1: Have Olympia and spam attack till he dies, Olympia's built-in counterattack just fucks him up. 2: Equip counterattack if you have it, spam attack, same as Olympia but you may have not finished the coliseum yet. 3:Roll into his attacks and attack, some timing required, but invinsibility frames are so good it practically doesn't require much skill at all. 4: Use elixirs, you should have like 6 by now and this guy is the hardest boss in the game other than Sephiroth and Xemnas, don't be stingy. 5: When he is at the *EVERLASTING DARKNESS* phase, stand near the place where he lands at the end (center of stage) and either take the last hit or dodge and immidiately use Ars Arcanum at the moment he begins being vulnerable, you are invincible for the first half of the combo which also staggers him so no bullshit *EVERLASTING DARKNESS* for him, which should do 1/3 of his last bar by itself, if you manage to get the rest of the attacks in, you will do about 2/5. He will probably do his bs move, so rinse repeat. 6: Strike raid is OP. Pop an ether or two (or elixir) in his final phase and it will keep you safe while doing reasonable damage. Seriously, Olympia or Counterattack (or both) completely destroy this guy.

Honestly, I never struggled with this fight, even on the PS2 version. I may have lost once or twice, but never more than three in a row. You know why? Aero+dodge roll is really OP. All those spam attacks mean nothing when it's not hitting and doing only 1/8th your HP if it does.

Shame you are playing 1.5 secret bosses in 1 were nuts then in final mix you get whipped out in a instint in a certain secret boss nightmares are made from kingdom Hearts secret bosses i had a friend who has ptsd from sepetoth.

I don't want to be that guy But It's very obvious his playthrough wasn't blind. Something about the way he fought bosses like the unknown and Ansem-Riku just made it really obvious he fought those bosses before
