The voice acting of 9S is simply incredible. The descent into madness relied so much on the voice and they really did an outstanding job. Typical Nier games, his revenge quest stemming from a misunderstood perspective when A2 actually did the decent thing, and yet you end up not wanting either side to lose! Yoko Taro is a fantastic story teller.
Trying to save him? She's the source of all his suffering. She didn't need to kill 2B, all she's doing is trying to put Yorha's primary directive back on track. 2B didn't need to die, and A2 will always be a bitch
@@deathbykonami5487 also: A2 Killed 21O w/o even blinking while 5sec later she hesitatates to kill a knocked over machine. shes srsly better at killing her own... shes inconsistent at best, traitor at worst. she deserves to hang.
I swear some people love to simply hate a2 and blame her for what's happened, even though she was literally asked by 2b to kill her and to protect 9s, who had no idea of the fact 2b is infected by the virus that infected YorHa so she was going to turn berserk like everyone else. She had no reasons whatsoever to follow through with those requests and yet did so, even willingly sacrifice herself in the end for everyone.
I definitely was NOT prepared for Nines' rather realistic death struggle when impaled. Media usually shows the easy way out, with people just falling flat after a short scream of pain or taking it like a champ before succumbing to it. And he got impaled by the sword of 2B no less. Yoko Taro, you are such a monster.
This is realistic to you? How is that realistic? Impaled people either die instantly or in this case he should be able to get up and bleed out after few minutes.
@@Alen725 As a physical therapist with anatomic knowledge/training of the human body, I am sorry to inform you that impaled people don't instantly die or bleed out, if no vital organs were damaged. The impaled object obstructs the blood flow through the skin. They bleed out faster only by removing the object on one side or another, or completely. However, there is the chance of getting paralyzed in the process, if the impaling object hits the spine directly, damaging the spinal nerve exit. As I said: The impaling shown here was rather realistic, as he was "only" impaled through the stomach, not damaging any vital organs. Painful as fuck, pain tolerance also determines whether someone goes into shock in time or stays conscious, until enough painkillers (opiat derivates) inside the body are produced for the person to hang in there. It would have been better/more merciful, if he had pulled the sword out, allowing for the bleeding out to happen :) :) :)
@@Alen725 wtf are you talking about, people don't die instantly from being impaled in the stomach. The only way for someone to die instantly is when the spine is severed or broken above a certain point, when the heart stops (be it failure, shock, or impalement) or when the brain is critically damaged. (as yes you can survive severe blows to the brain, even gunshots or large items like pipes going through it) Any other fatal blow that isn't treated urgently leads either to death from blood loss, the wound causing an infection which eventually leads to heart failure, or organ failures that result in a heart failure. (not counting brain death as your body is technically still alive)
@@Phyllion- I stopped reading after two first sentences, really not interested in your essay if you cant read. You are basically a smartass that have to be right, even if you dont even have anything to say. You basically didnt even refute any of my claims because I said that people either die instantly (severed spine) or bleed out slowly. Yet you somehow felt the urge to educate someone for some reason like a typical smartass.
She is...trust me. She is trying to bring 9S to reason even though she knows it's impossible. She knew 9S has achieved a human sentience or soul... because of his "love" for 2B.
@@ZoraPMC isn't A2 sentient aswell she no longer listens to her programming and has kinda free will also the fact that she tryes to get reason into mental 9S makes it more painful the whole game made me cry soo bad it's so much emotion so many details also on my first play trough i kinda knew from the start something was up with those transmissions
Even after watching this cut scene over and over again, it never gets easier watching 9S literally writhe around after being impaled by that sword. Like, jesus christ, from the scream and him desperately clawing at his stomach, trying to remove the sword, to the cry he makes while the camera just slowly pans out makes me shudder. It's so... disgustingly morbid.
@@yukiyoshida6606he’s lying. An actual reaction from being stab is first by asking “mate have ya got license for stabbing”. If they don’t they’ll be fined for 500 pounds.
3:19 that squeal in 9s’ voice. it’s so painful to see my babyboy 9s go total berserk. the voice acting has so much impact on portraying the misery of 9s
2:38 - Kyle McCarley's performance as 9S knocks it out of the fucking park, good fucking lord Those are the anguished screams of a man who has lost it all and has went through hell and has nothing left in him but hatred and sorrow, in a way, kinda like what Eve became when Adam kicked the bucket 9S's descent into madness is utterly heartbreaking and his VA's performance really, really helped sell this, he seriously nailed it Which is all the more jarring because I'm used to hearing him in happy go lucky roles
@@Christian-gr3gu Exactly. He played that happy-go-lucky, curious young teen in the first half of this game but seeing him go full insanity really was all the more convincing and amazing
Someone give 9S's VA an award already. I played the ENG dub for DC Douglas aka Pod 042 (Wesker in Resident Evil and Legion in Mass Effect) but stayed for 9S. Infact I didn't like the Character in the Original dub tbh but the ENG dub made a huge difference
2:38 Very depressing to think that, despite being capable of developing their own independent emotions, Androids are STILL heavily influenced by the feelings forced on them through their programming. Not only with 9S suffering for his longing for humans, but also the twins Popola and Devola with their feelings of guilt even though they did nothing wrong. I guess I can only relate that to how human trauma works in our early years of life. Things that are now in the past, memories that we can hardly remember, yet whatever happened back when we were kids, it affected us so much that it stays in our subconscious forever, no matter how much we grow as people. Affecting our actions and inducing pain.
From my point of view A2 is the one who's right here. 9S hates her because she killed 2E but 2E had been corrupted; she wanted to die. 9S didn't know but even if he knew, he had been corrupted as well so he wouldn't listen to reason anyway.
Oh, I was thinking of the English voice actor. That's really weird though lol. Just because 9S sounds almost exactly like Kaneki in the English version
I remember crying so hard when they made you chose your character. and with tears on my eyes I picked A2, because I loved 9S so much I couldnt LIVE with myself if I continued his suffering and I got fucked in the ass in the end by getting A2 killed and 9S surviving on the end of route C lol
Being stabbed in the stomach is one of the most painful ways to die because there are so many nerves and pain receptors in that area plus you die super slowly
“I often think about the god that bless us with this curse. And wonder if I’ll ever get the chance to kill him.” Well, 2B, you do get that chance to kill him. Over and over again.
Spoiler: The Irony of 9S death is that he got accidentally impale by 2B sword, in the end, even her own directive still managed to do her job in death.
9S: "But if it doesn't matter....why do I long for humans like this? Why do I desire the touch of something that no longer exists?" A2: "It's how we were made. Androids were designed to protect their human masters." That is so damn cruel. Imagine that we successfully create androids that are designed to cherish human lives. Then, we are wiped out by an alien invasion, leaving the androids behind to fight an endless war in our name because it's the closest thing they'll have to being with us again. I found myself too invested in the story, that after hearing A2 say that, I said "I'M SORRY!"
The worst part is the humans **weren't** killed by the alien invasion (or rather not by the alien invasion that YorHa was supossedly made to combat against), they completely went extinct centuries prior due to an unforseen event that an android pair of Devola and Popola couldn't stop, and destroyed the one chance of salvation humans' might've had.
@@zaqareemalcolm All of humanity, wiped out by the shells that gained sentience. A program flaw that project gestalt never foresaw: That the bodies would become living beings with their own thoughts. And the souls lost their semblance of self. All of humanity was doomed that day when a monster, a dragon and a man from another dimension came crashing into their world.
It took me like 20-30 minutes to decide who to go with on my first playthrough. (I didn't know I could just chapter select lol) But it was too emotional for me. 9S since the beginning of Route B has captured my attention since he was supposed to be the one with emotion and yet lacks empathy for machines, unlike 2B who is willing to listen, at least. And then discovers that the humans he was supposed to be fighting for no longer exist, I remember that arc with Adam when he was asked if he wants **** 2B, and all of that compilation of emotions he is going through and the last line of 2B in route A, "It always ends this way." 9S was a broken soul from the very beginning and when he lost the only person he cares about and finding out that 2B is actually an executioner for the Nines, he lost it. I wanted to go with him since I want to give him the justice he deserves but why A2? Why against her? Because she killed 2B? 9S knew why A2 had to do what she did... It was tough. A2, on the other hand, is like the version of 9S that has finally come to terms with everything; against Command, against machines, and against everything else. She wasn't carrying out 2B's wishes, she knew what's about to go down and what's to happen, and everything is utterly meaningless. A2 deserves justice too. It was hard but gladly, I could just pick Route D and E quickly after Route C lol
At the final boss, I first chose 9S because I thought he could somehow be saved from his madness. I thought he could realize that even if it's justified, his vengeance could cost his human side. But at the moment he says "If this all goes away, that will solve everything !", I realized he can't be saved. His motive of vengeance has no reason to exist anymore since he knew that 2B was infected, but destruction is the only way for him to calm down his suffering. His human side was gone by far at the end, but hope was still with me until this moment. He became a machine needing destruction to unleash his hate and has no remorse for doing so. This hit me so hard I had to pause for a moment
Yeah, I know. That's why I precised "the first time". But even in ending C, I think 9S also ends badly. A2 has indeed managed to remove the virus, but 9S was already crazy before that, the virus only helped him a lot. He was even planning to kill himself way before he got infected, so I don't think he changed his mind
I can only think of one other final boss in any video game series that actually had me in agony doing the boss fight. 9S was such a complex character that I grew to love even more than either 2B or A2. Truth be told, I kinda liked 2B only for the latter half of Ending A, the first half of her story just seemed generic soldier following orders to a greater authority. Same goes for A2, except I liked her at first, but when her overall background wasn't exactly shed on with any clarity I thought she wasn't a very relatable character. But 9S, man I hated having to fight against him. And even when I found out C ending leaves him alive, I go over and play Ending D and just.... 💔 I knew vengeance was a gruesome business, but this was so depressing, and I enjoy a good vengeance plot. I also found it interesting how if you use 9S, the fight is 2-dimensional like when you fight A2 in the Forest Kingdom, but when you play against 9S, the fight is 3-dimensional like every other fight. Truly one of my favorite final boss fights of all time.
IEloudi G yep also if u wnat more she did ilya from rwby ( she is really good at rage as well) sailor Venus/ minako from sailor moon my hero academia and more
"I didn't care if they were all lies. I didn't care about why we were created. As long as I was with her, I could endure any pain. But she was taken! Androids, YoRHa, humanity, machines, and you too! EVERYONE TOOK 2B FROM ME!!!" - *9S from the anime*
@@escapetherace1943 lol, we do know that the Pods are all around the freaking world, not to mention that we already are getting bits and pieces of hints that the Pods is more than just an Assist AI. There's no way only Machines and Androids gets to develop human emotions but not the Pods. Should I mention that they're basically immune to the Logic Virus that are the bane of both Machines and Androids?
@@escapetherace1943 Ending E is IN the base game. You're saying he wrote it to appease the audience before the game even released? Before he knew how much of a hit it would be with players?
2:22 WOW, you can choose who's going to live, that's INSANE. You can really see a "what-if" and a realistic resolution where you try your hardest for a cause you believe and fail. It's the type of story GRRM writes and i wish more stories were like this, that they dared to ask: "what comes next." Well to start, everything must be set up so that some conflict occours, that's the hardest part, usually at end life is tranquil and there's no point in watching someone do errands.
9S's death was just.... -_- He got himself stabbed, eventhough A2 didn't intentionally do it. 9S could've easily dodged it, but he accidentally got stabbed. *SMH -_-* This is why you shouldn't drink alcohol before consumed in rage.
In his defense, 9S was still infected, so he was being overly aggressive and irrational. In a normal fight he would've just blasted her in two with his pod.
This whole game is a depressive fall toward insanity. The blissful ignorance of everything at the beginning until you learn the truth & crave death to be spared the reality.
9S after he gets stabbed feels hauntingly realistic. Surprise, terror, squirming, it's like he's a little kid who just encountered pain and death for the first time.
Unlikely, however if you're interested in what happens after the events of the game, there is a stage play and the english voice actors did their own dubbing of the stage play. You should check it out
9S is berserk and seriously trying to kill A2, and is using hacking. A2 is tired of fighting and doesn't want to kill 9S, and she doesn't use Berserk. I think it's safe to say she's holding back a little.
@UNIVERSAL SPACE EXPEDITIONER A2 doesnt want to kill. 9S is retarded. I picked A2 hoping to kill this sad existance of emodumb kid but the game didnt let me.
Seeing the struggle between 9s and a2 made me think they should make a mod where the characters are replaced with bluey being 2b, bingo being 9s and muffin being a2 because she's a little brat
