What I really like about this character design especially this image is the eyes. Despite the evil dark look his eyes just convey a deep sadness. Just soulless with no hope but dispair. Love it!
The pain this music is able to convey after playing Nier Replicant is astounding. It prompted this short love letter to the ending of this story and the music of this fight. Read alongside the music for best effect, because... It is despair manifested musically, a beautiful, final despair of the last human railing against his fate with single-minded fury. If he could save the one he loves and keep living alongside them at the end of the world by killing even himself and that very same desire, he'd do it. (Begin reading here as the music "drops" and speeds up and imagine the cutscene at the end of the game, where Gestalt Yonah gives up and leaves her Shadowlord brother before the last phase of the boss fight. If you'd like to be immersed with me ;) ) The heat of the music as it picks up is his desperation pours through; the window of opportunity is closing even at the cusp of a narrow success he'd once been unsure he could even reach. He'd fought so hard to bring his sister back to life, and when it finally seemed as though he had done it, grief of his deeds took her away from him once again. Deeds he'd done for her sake! Who cares about a clone? A copy? They're not real, not like you, Yonah, not like me! We can still live! Don't let go! One thousand years he waited in a cold afterlife purgatory, dreaming of a new beautiful life of peace-- one they'd been denied so early and so long ago-- to show his beloved sister and enduring her horrible fate alongside her, sharing in her misery every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every month of every year. Their millennium-long struggle could all be worth it still. But thanks to a copy of himself harbouring desires and desperation to save his own sister-- the very same sister he loved-- in a cruel mirror of his own situation, it all seemed to be coming undone. His sister couldn't tread the same path. There was a reason he loved her; the purity of her heart was unmatched, the goodness in her unparalleled. She had not the nerve to kill these living, breathing, feeling copies of him and herself. And so she was letting go, even after everything, even after their suffering, their waiting, their hoping, their dreams. It was all going to be okay, but she was giving up. SHE JUST HAS TO WAIT! -- Ahem, back to the music. As it surges on to into its glorious apex, it perfectly encapsulates the romance, the bittersweetness, how absolutely set in stone the tragedy is of the Shadowlord's desperate attempt to kill his clone even after his sister has given up. It's over, there's probably even no way to get her back. He's probably killing himself, killing the only part of himself left that has any chance of happiness to pursue the slim chance that he MIGHT be able to save his sister again against all odds. His essence is shredded away by his unrelenting clone and he cries out for Yonah, blinded by rage against his fate, unwilling to even think of the lines he's crossing as he fights until the very end... for Yonah. But it all fades to black. It was for nothing. Just pain. Not even sure if the other side got to be happy in the end. Probably couldn't care less... at least it's over.
For the protagonist of NieR replicant, which is of course the shadowlord, the human that we refer to as NieR, doesnt for a second think about any possible happiness for the other side or whatnot. The truly heavy thing about being complicit in what NieR's body, his replicant, ends up doing, is that the shadowlord is completely aware of the REALITY. That we the player, the NieR we've been with, is just a shell that always truly belonged to the "shadowlord" from the very beginning. In the beginning of the game when you play as the Shadowlord and youre beating the shades with that pipe in the grocery store, that was during a time that both of them were still one. We're effectively playing both characters, if you want to think of it that way. But there *_was never two characters_* ... was there? That's right. REALLY take the point in. There was only ever one. And yet, that isn't completely so. Which could lead us down a path discussing just how fucked the gestalt project really was. But what else could we have done? The maso... the red eye'd leader, and the army the maso brought with it. I dont for a second see the scientists that came up with and managed to REALIZE the gestalt project as evil. The fact humanity had that shot to begin with is amazing. And there WAS a plan. A plan that had a shot at working. Its the original gestalts' replicant - it's NIERS' BODY - who singlehandedly ends humanity in a truly - how'd you put it? _"-..final despair of the last _*_replicant_*_ railing against his fate with single-minded fury."_ A fury, we as the player for the duration of the game, are very familiar with. Replicant NieR faces many internal struggles throughout, but there's one fact he has ALWAYS had a clear mind, and clear focus on... right? Kill. Shades. As long as I can rid this world of all of them, and save Yonah, that's ALL that matters. Nothing else. And so, Replicant NieR unknowingly, at least in that moment, took up the mantle as we know him today. *_"The World-Ender"_*
I remember listening to this in 2018 and reading Jojo Part 6's final battle, My mind was distraught at what had just happened and it made me feel all the emotions I felt playing Gestalts final act.
Stand infront a mirror...listen to this song and try to see your body is seperated to your soul. Try to imagine that one day your body is trying to stop you. You is trying to stop you. And you wants to Kill you. How you feel? Cold? No its fear...the same Fear that humanitys fate is decided and doomed as humanity is doomed like in Replicant just with a different story and yet no hope
I listened to this while reading berserk spoilers for conviction ark It was when guts looked at the burning refugee camp and it made the brand of sacrifice symbol and when everybody was being eaten by the demons this song was playing I never felt such goosebumps in my entire life this song cemented that moment of me reading through those pages in to the fiber of my being. Rip kentaro miura berserk is a masterpiece and so is this song
sounds like something like the theme if i willingly gave in to Azathoth's influence and become something almost a madness inducing as Azathoth himself A Eldritch Shadowlord who actions/thoughts are almost the same as Azathoth himself imagine the omniversal war that would happen as a result and the more/longer the fighting/violence/anger/hatred goes the more exponentially more powerful i get and the only way to "seal me away" is to return to the origin and have a number of selfless characters who would sacrifice themselves to seal me away and remain forevermore the guardians of the seals keeping me in place think of something like a certain character from dragon's dogma dark arisen only to keep the seals locked
i got a challenge see if you can mix together ebf4's final boss music with ebf5's final boss music and see if you can do with that mix what you did here even just attempting will be enough to impress me
