I think I like the Original composition better. This one tries it's best to incorporate the chanting and instruments to fit a key signature, and I get the point of that. It makes the song much more melodic, while keeping the driving, tribal drum beat intact. However, you lose a lot of the primal raw feeling of the original, which did not have the violin, acoustic guitar, and cellos to set it in a key signature, but was much more drum and chanting forward, which I think made it more visceral. That's my problem with a lot of the new recordings, actually; a lot of the edge and purposeful friction in the sounds has been sanded down, but that tension in the music was a metaphor for the broken world of the game. Removing the pan flute from the Facade theme to replace it with a much less iconic instrument is unforgiveable to me, for example.
