Nieuw Statendam is the second pinnacle class ship from Holland America Line. The ship offers guests the perfect blend of traditional ambiance with a contemporary feel and exciting new generation venues like the Rolling Stone Rock Room, Billboard Onboard and B.B. King's Blues Club. Nieuw Statendam also features a fantastic array of included dining like the Lido Market, Dive-In Burgers, New York Deli & Pizza as well as as small bites and snacks from the Grand Dutch Cafe. Nieuw Statendam sails Caribbean itineraries in the Winter and Spring and Europe in the Summer and Fall.

When I took this cruise, it was 97% 55+, 1% families, 1% 15-30, and 1% 30-55. Its a cruise targeted for the older crowd. Has all the amenities one could hope for in a cruise, but don't expect a lively crowd with bands playing at the pool, pool games, drinking games, or fun activities. 85% of the guests were contempt with eating, sitting at the pool deck reading, or spending hours in their rooms each day.

So the 55+ folks, can you confirm that it was mostly marrieds or coupled off? Or were there single people in that demographic?

@@AMojoJojo I was on the ship in October 2019 for a transatlantic cruise from Civitavecchia, Italy to Fort Lauderdale for 14 nights, so the numbers I put out are skewed. If I had to recall, I would say its fair too say, 95-97% of the seniors were couples. I personally took the cruise by myself and I recall a couple other seniors I talked too that did as well. I was 24 when I took this cruise.

Hi Steven, thanks for watching. The Nieuw Statendam was a brand new ship when I sailed on her in December 2018. Similar to Celebrity Cruises, Holland America offers a more elevated cruise experience with touches of elegance.

Only the Neptune and Pinnacle Suites guests have access to the Neptune Lounge. Vista and Signature Suites guests do not have access to the Neptune Lounge.

It seems like most of the dining is an upcharge. Did you find the 'included' restaurants to be satisfactory? Our cruise date is Feb 2021. Also, about dress code. From the 'feel' of the video I'm guessing I should pack a lot of dress shirts, slacks and a suit jacket.

Hi Mahatma, thanks for watching. I chose to purchase a 3 night specialty dining package to experience as many onboard options as possible. I was on a 4 night cruise and I did have one evening in the main dining room and it was very good. Guests on Holland America do tend to dress up a bit more than other lines, but a suite jacket and slacks are more than fine.

We are dancers who do partner dancing (swing, salsa, tango, hustle, etc) It looks like the only dance floor is at Rolling Stone Rock Room, and it is pretty small. Do they allow any dancing on the World Stage, during the day????

Looks nice except Canaletto needs its own dedicated space. It is not much fun paying for dining while sharing the space with casual passers by gawking at you.

Hi Paula, thanks for watching. While it is a very nice ship, much younger individuals will notice the ship has a largely older guest demographic. Most of the activities end earlier in the night as well, so perhaps another cruise brand like Carnival or Royal Caribbean would be a better choice. I have kids in that age range and have waited to take them on Holland America.

Nowhere did you mention ANYTHING about internet or WiFi?. Did some research blogs, reviews, comments...etc...and people were very disappointed that it wasn't included but instead, charged per use/day not to mention poor internet speed for paid service. Come on...really??

Hi Rob, thanks for watching. It might depend on your usage, but I never had any major issues with the internet onboard. For the most part, no cruise line includes Internet unless it is bundled with a promotion.

Disappointing cabin section of the video. Wish you would show real cabins and not the HAL pamphlet pictures. Same cabin pics showed for several categories is lazy.
