"Search in the Night" was Four Star Productions' attempt at launching a television series based on the popular 1950 - 52 NBC radio drama NIGHT BEAT. Frank Lovejoy reprised his role as Randy Stone, reporter for The Chicago Star. The pilot was scripted by John & Gwen Bagni, and directed by Christian Nyby. While it was never picked up as a series, the episode did eventually air as the November 5, 1953 installment of CBS Televsion's anthology series FOUR STAR PLAYHOUSE (which was later seen in syndication under the title STAR PERFORMANCE).

Great adaptation from radio to TV!

I certainly have a notion to second that emotion! We have a local AM news/talk station that used to broadcast programs from radio's Golden Age. Fell in love with old time radio! And "Nightbeat" was one of the best! What a great voice Frank Lovejoy had for radio. As for me, I'm told I have a great face for radio....
