The original Night Court television series ran on NBC from January of 1984 to May of 1992. 9 seasons and 193 episodes gave audiences a peek into the world of a Manhattan Municipal court during its night shift. Judge Harry T. Stone presided over the court despite the fact he was young, eccentric, and clearly an odd choice for the job.
The series was the creation of Reinhold Wedge who previously contributed on Barney Miller in the late 70s and early 80s.
Fans of the original series will be excited to learn that a sequel series is currently in the works. John Larroquette is set to reprise his role as Dan Fielding. Melissa Rauch from The Big Bang Theory and her husband Winston Rauch are serving as the show's executive producers. After January, the duos production company, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. TV is overseeing the series production.
It's not clear as of yet when the reboot series will air, but rumor has it that it might see a premiere in Fall of 2021. Hopefully, the new series can stay true to the vibe of the original series while breaking new ground and exploring new territory. Hollywood has a bad habit of ruining reboots by 'trying too hard' but if they play their cards right, they just might be able to come up with a new modern classic.
