Night Court | S05E14 "I'm Okay You're Catotonic Schizophrenic" | Al Speaks

Al, who hasn't spoken for years, breaks his silence when he learns that his friend, Buddy, might not be joining him in going to a permanent mental institution.
For years and years I remembered this scene, but could not for the life of me remember where it was from. "Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle is a lie like all the rest. The astronauts killed the man in the moon; growing up took care of the rest."

"I don't know anything anymore, Buddy...except that , when I'm around you...I don't feel so lost. If you leave me, I think I'll die." I am man enough to admit that I am on the verge of tears coming from my very eyes themselves.

When so much information has to be processed, what with people telling us first one thing, then something totally different, that completely knocks down the myth that we were told as a child, then we see the point that he's making. There is way too much myth and murder, committed in the name of "Freedom", that can cause our own minds to go into overdrive, and cause permanent damage... unless we find out what the truth of the matter is, for each particular subject.

What a terrific performance by Berman. Night Court could switch from comedy to pathos and then back again, one of those rare shows that could get away with it. John Astin was always great. RIP, Harry Anderson.

That’s what made this show great drama interlaced in the comedy. Also Harry Anderson being one of the few who showed me that it’s ok not to grow up as long as you don’t forfeit maturity.

Bodhisattva in Buddhism is one who is on the path to enlightenment and compassionate towards others… sometimes staying back to assist others on their path as well. Although Nightcourt often had Christian undertones to make it better understood by western audiences, Buddy sure shows us his Bodhisattva qualities here Also, an excellent monologue delivery

Probably one of the greatest speeches written into a comedy scene - something that happened during the 80s in a number of comedies. It is sad that today's comedy, is filthy or has a political agenda. While they writers did push the envelope in a number of comedies, people from all corners of the US could relate, could laugh, could unwind as families sat around and just enjoyed life. This episode ranks at the top of quality, and speaks volumes of the struggles even sane people, let alone insane, feel.
